Upon Vestia: Chapter Seventeen

Kay always tried so hard to be sensible and pragmatic. Asher had always loved that about him, and he loved it just as much now. He smiled softly. "No, you're definitely not alone in this."
He wasn't going to leave Kay to look after this little dragon alone. He'd gotten the guy into this situation, so now it was his job to do everything he could to help. Did that make him the other father here? Maybe. This was thoroughly confusing and he was going to need to think it over at some point. "If it wasn't already obvious, I'm here for you. Both of you," he said.

Tala snorted weakly. "I do not like that butterfly well." She let Shane help her.

Skye nodded at that "Yes, we were lucky, only the three of us survived from that ship. Mourn lost everyone else on that crew."

"That's sad." Amity shook his head.

The professor tilted his head. "He did but you didn't? Were you not part of the crew?"

Orel looked sad at the reminder of Skye's past. Yeah, it stank. He patted her arm comfortingly.

Skye shook her head "No, Mourn and his crew saved us from slavery before that." She frowned, thinking about that and thinking she was a bit of a bad luck bringer with all that had happened to them.

"Ah." Well what more could you really say to that? The Professor looked a bit awkward.

Amity fell silent, bowing his head.

"Would you two like to see your living options?" Vestia asked. Subject change! Whoo.

Professor Hewitt looked up. "Ahh yes, that sounds wonderful."

Amity nodded.

Skye nodded, that was better to talk about

"I'll send a bot over to escort you," Vestia said. She summoned one which would arrive shortly, scuttling along the ground with antennae wiggling.

The Professor looked at the bot and smiled. He liked robots okay?

Amity watched it curiously. This was a strange cruise ship. Nothing at all like home. He focused on the professor. "Let's get you settled in sir."

The bot lead them away from the main rooms, toward a few rooms that were a distance away to make atmosphere control easier. "That's the med bay, where the highly territorial medics prowl," Vestia said helpfully as they reached the med bay, "They probably won't know much about Aketi, but they're still useful sometimes."

Orel looked around to see if he and Skye could sneak off.

James thought he heard someone outside. "Patients?" He said warily to Dawn.

Skye glanced to Orel when he didn't follow the two then dipped her head. She would stay in that room and see what he had to say if anything.

Dawn looked to the door then shrugged and got up to go to the door. "Oh" She hadn't expected to see a plant...person? And a hologram?? What was going on?

Orel totally sneaked off, waving to Skye. He'd be back, magic sister or no, Skye was still totally hot and nice.

James went to see what Dawn had oh'ed about. "Wow," he said. Then he waved. "Hey guys!"

Amity paused, smiled and waved. "Greetings." He spoke cheerfully.

Hewitt looked both Dawn and James up and down critically. "You're the territorial medics?" He asked.

Dawn giggled and shook her head "No, we are 'B' team. The territorial ones went into the city. I'm Dawn and this is James. Who are you?" She asked cheerfully and curiously. She wondered if Ellie had met them yet.

James waved in greeting. "Not territorial, just nice. That's us. Yeah, who are you? New passengers?"

"Professor Hewitt." The Professor introduced himself. "And this is Amity."

Amity nodded. "The territorial ones allow you into their realm?" He seemed to find that quite amusing judging by the expression on his face.

Hewitt chuckled at his companion and shook his head.
"You have a curious crew here, your ship said you were all refugees of some sort?" He asked. "My Host needed repair and your Atruvian friends suggested they knew someone who could help."

"And help he did. I am back to operating at optimum capacity" Amity sounded pleased.

"Yes, for now. " The professor agreed. "We've been offered somewhere to stay while we wait for a response to our request for transport."

"The territorial medics will chase is out when they come back," James joked cheerfully. "Well, not all refugees exactly. I mean, some of us are not in danger anywhere I think, just not super popular. A LOT of these guys are though." He smiled, "Welcome aboard. Nice to have new people here."

"Thank you." Amity smiled.

The Professor nodded.

Dawn nodded and smiled a little "Some of us actually belong to a different crew, we just kind of stayed here." She said then looked over to Vestia's camera "We like it here."

"Yeah, once you end up here, you never really get to leave," James said, grinning at Dawn. "Okay, rude question, but are you a robot, Amity? I can't help noticing the whole... Floating projector thing... You have going on?"

Amity looked bemused. "Why would that be a rude question? I am a Holographic Host Drone." He explained with a gentle smile.

"He's an AI" Hewitt clarified. "I don't think they're actually capable of getting offended."

"Or perhaps nobody has tried hard enough sir." Amity chuckled.

James laughed, "It's better to play it safe, right? Don't want to be rude to the new guests, and some AIs do get offended sometimes." He nodded sagely.

Amity smiled. "That's very considerate of you."

Hewitt found the idea of an offended AI very amusing and snickered a little.

James glanced at Hewitt, smiling a bit. "I'm a Terran android, I worry about these things. You guys are heading to find your rooms?"

"AIs have feelings too" Dawn agreed, nodding "Androids are finally considered people now."

"You're an android?" Hewitt looked suddenly a lot more interested. Terran androids he'd heard of, they were weird. "I thought those ridiculous terrans made you all wear badges because they'd made you all too realistic and could no longer tell you apart from organic beings?" Hah, ridiculous terrans. "Finally decided to grant you legal protection did they?" He snorted.

Amity stared at James, lost for words for a bit, then he nodded. "yes, we are trying to get the professor settled in before he begins to wilt."

"I'm not going to wilt this quickly for goodness sake." The professor grumbled.

"With all due respect sir, it is my job to ensure the safety and relative comfort of guests assigned to me until such a time as the company can send for you. It would reflect poorly upon my performance should you start to wilt and drop leaves."

Hewitt chuckled darkly. "Heaven forbid I ruin your performance report."

"Please sir." Amity pleaded. "Your health matters to the company."

Hewitt scoffed. "No it doesn't, they just don't want the bad PR. Fine fine, if it'll stop your nagging."

"Thank you sir." Amity bowed his head and looked grateful.
