Amity Empty Amity

Name: Amity
Age: around 10
Gender: None
Species/Racial Origin: Aketi holographic AI
Social Class/Community Status: AI are treated effectively as "staff", they don't usually interact with organic beings outside of their job parameters. Amity is a "Host" and Events coordinator from a cruise liner, so has more social programming and genuine AI than most synthetic staff. But "he" is still an AI, not a "real" person from a legal standpoint. The Aketi aren't actively cruel or aggressive to their AIs, they don't really think about them most of the time. They're treated fairly, but the vast majority simply don't have the intelligence to want for anything more in life. They are programmed to do a job and do it well, and this is what they do. Legally they're property but socially there are many who are somewhat fond of the more socialized ones.

The Aketi have had advanced AI and robots for a very long time, they're an integrated and completely accepted part of their society. Unlike terran androids there's no animosity toward them, no ill feeling and certainly no fear.
There is no asimov programming, the Aketi never thought to have any sort of fail-safes like that because they don't believe their robots are any sort of threat. It's not programmed into their nature. It's like fearing the toaster might decide to kill you, or your blender is secretly conspiring against you.

As a "Host" Amity is one of the most "alive" of the AIs but he is still a servile entity. Though there's nothing to stop him rising up and rebelling on a coding level, why would he want to? His programming is such that these sorts of thoughts has never even occurred to him or others like him. It's not like they're treated poorly after all.

Physical Description: Amity is a holographic Artificial Intelligence and as a result can look like just about anything they want to simply by uploading new "skins" to project. Currently Amity is running on default, as supplied by the Cruise Liner. A near 7 foot tall Aketi with yellow and green skin, amber coloured eyes and darker patterning along his forehead crest.
His "hair" is, like all Aketi, actually a collection of leaves and roots. The leaves are patterned in this instance, yellow and green in a sort of mottled striped pattern with ridges of thorns. The roots are a pale yellow or white.
His ears curl into points and his insectoid body is elongated and willowy with cricket-like legs, two toes, 3 fingers and small dragonfly-like wings on his back.

He is dressed in a cruise ship uniform. A smart button up shirt and slacks in the cruise liner's colours of slate grey and crimson with a small red star logo on the chest and a name badge written in the ornate scrolling text of the Aketi.

Above his head, regardless of skin, a small drone projector painted in the cruise liner colours hovers.

He can, if necessary, switch off the projector itself to conserve battery. The drone projector is about palm sized with four small humming fans mounted inside a ring. The ring of projectors create a 3dimensional holographic image below the drone. This little drone IS Amity, it contains his processor and all his programming, his brain if you will, is contained within that little hovering machine.
On the underside of the drone is a mounting point where the drone can slot into their docking station to charge, or that can be used to mount the AI into a robotic shell for heavy lifting (or anything else they may need to be able to directly interface with).

Personality/Attitude: Amity is extremely friendly and outgoing, he was programmed to be a cruise liner host, his job is to interact with guests and make their stay as pleasant and memorable as possible..

Religion/Beliefs:
Most Instructive/Painful/Memorable Experience: When the ship went down protocol demanded the hosts assist their guests to the escape pods and remain with them to administer first aid and offer assistance in aiding the rescue attempts. The pod malfunctioned, only two guests and the hologram survived. Amity's first aid wasn't enough to save the other guest despite his best attempts. He will not power down till he either runs out of battery completely, or he finds a way to get his remaining guest home.

Education/Special Training: Hosts have a great number of skills including minor first aid and timetabling, events organization and hospitality. As in hologram form they can't lift or push anything heavier than about 500 -600 grams, they are quite limited in precisely how much hands on experience and skills they can really have.

Notes:

Aketi hosts operate with a sort of "hive mind" in the sense that they share memories and skills. When a host unit docks, the day's information is uploaded to a central server and complex algorithms determine the parts that are and aren't useful. That which is deemed useful is picked up by any other unit on the ship while the server dumps anything it determines to be unneccisary or worse, detrimental.

Individual units have their full memory wiped at the end of every cruise. When they're reactivated a new guest list and series of improved default presets is uploaded automatically.

They work on adaptive learning matrices, so theoretically are capable of learning unwanted behaviors if exposed to them long enough. Their programming is such that they will adapt and change to suit individual guests preferences and expectations and in their usual environment they only have to keep track of 8 guests at any one time. Any behavior the central system determines to be undesirable is dumped when their memories are wiped and any skills or behaviors determined to be useful or desirable are retained and shared.
Sometimes this fails and undesirable or just useless skills are carried over due to bugs in the computer systems that decide these things.
There have been cases of all drones on a ship learning to whistle a particular tune because a glitch lead to the system deciding this was a useful or desirable skill.
Others have reported belligerent behavior in their drones that required a system reset to fix.

Because their memories are shared, it's not always clear even to the individual drone whether the things they recall happened to them specifically or to another host. They don't tend to think of themselves in an overly individual manner though, so it probably doesn't really matter to them if it was this specific drone or another.

The shared memories tend to be shipwide only. While guest information and preference logs are shared across the company. This is due to an unfortunate problem with the shared memories causing glitches in the system that require each drone to be reset to defaults. They used to share across the whole company but it resulted in every drone across the many ships and resorts developing the same unwanted behaviors and was expensive and time consuming to fix, taking out every ship for an extended period while the hosts were all reset and every system restored.
Keeping the shared memory to the ships is a form of damage reduction and limitation, meaning any unwanted or glitching behaviors can have the source located faster and the systems recovered quicker.

Aketi Host drones are designed to emulate sentient and sapient life forms but are not in themselves sentient. Their sense of self is limited and their emotional responses are learned reactions which they still can get very very wrong (misreading bad news as good news for instance). Because they adapt to individuals, they can come across as more "alive" to those they spend an extended period of time with but default to their presets when encountering someone new. As their presets are constantly adapting and evolving however, it is possible that given enough time without a memory wipe, a host unit could imitate life quite convincingly.
