Upon Vestia: Chapter Eight

Starr held on when the airlocks were opened, keeping her position.  She waited to see who if any of the slavers would reach her first. Shane, doing the same in his position.

Skye and Moone nodded, moving closer to the vent to be ready to get the younger kids inside

"He's recovering well," Asher said, scanning her back to see how the damage was healing. "Is the food not agreeing with you? You don't seem to be eating much."

"Its not to my taste..when will I see him again?" She watched him like a hawk, her feather like hair raising in her species natural way of defense in attempt to make themselves look bigger. The truth was this pissy nature was more because she was scared, first marrying off to a man she jusf met off a station she lived on her whole life to a ship of which she started to just call home to loose it ans end up here. Now add in the factor the only two people she ereally trusted were seperated from her and without her bag to give her some security it was a miracle she hasn't fully lost it yet.

"What sort of food would suit you? This ship is stocked with food to meet the needs of many species," Asher asked. "I don't know if you'll see Matthew again, the crew hasn't reached any conclusions about what to do with everyone yet."
He kept his voice soft as he spoke, trying to ease her fear somewhat.

She gritted her teeth obviously not liking the sound of that, "If that the case then why am I seperated from the "others" if I am part of "everyone" of his crew?" She absently replied to the food comment, though it was in a very dry tone, "I prefer avian dishes."

"You have a back injury; keeping you near the med bay makes it easier for us to look after you so you can recover," Asher said evenly. "I'll see to it that you receive Avian food from now on."

She glared, obviously suspected there was more to this, "And why do I feel like that there something more to this?" She voiced, "your treating me differently then when you treated matthew too."

"Matthew is a slaver. This crew has had multiple painful experiences at his hands now, and we have little sympathy for him, although of course us medics do our best to be professional. We have no such history with you." Asher smiled and pocketed the scanner.

She fought the urge to say a few slur words floating in her head, "If that the case why did you think it was best to take a female from her mate not knowing her history of being seperated on a place with people she has no fucking clue about with this obvious I am mightier then thou complex?" She snapped.

Asher winced. "Matthew is a slaver," he repeated quietly, "We thought it best to keep him separated from you until we knew what his... relationship to you was."

lai looked at him with this confusion, not understanding what he was fully hinting. "I am his wife, that is my relationship to him damnit."

Asher nodded. "The others will discuss what to do. I'm just the medic, I can't make such decisions on my own."

"Well if that the case then I won't eat until I see him." She huffed, mentally already seeing the scowling of such hatchling like behavior but she didnt care. Lai needed some sort of stability and familiar face in this mess.

Asher sighed. "That's your choice to make, I suppose. I'll see what I can do, but I can't promise anything." He turned to go.

She sighed, saying nothing elsexas asher left but couldnt hide the tears that started to silently fall.

Asher looked back and paused, seeing her tears. "I'm sorry," he said softly, "Being in a strange environment like this, locked up by yourself, can't be easy. I'll try and help you to see Matthew again since you want that so much, but if he's been hurting you, then you should consider taking this opportunity to leave him."

"All of these bruises and wounds are from my bastard of a father...honestly if Matthew wasn't there..." She faultered, remembering very well that if He wasn't her fate would of ended much worse.

Asher nodded. "We've all had difficult lives here, in our own ways. We may not know your life story, but we know being locked up like this hurts you, and none of us like seeing someone in pain. I, for one, will do everything I can to see to it that you aren't kept alone much longer."

She sighed, "please.."

Asher left Lai to her gloom, feeling sad that there wasn't really any way he could help right now. Poor girl, she obviously wasn't at all prepared for situations like this.

Matt found some stuff both He and Thalia could eat, ruffled Kay's hair annoyingly and told him "Stay away from whiskey this time okay?"

and guided Thalia off to the mess hall to eat. It was nice and quiet in there.

Kay batted at Matt and glared as he left.

"What you grab?" Thaila asked, curious of how he was going to wat this.

Matt laid everything out on the table. "Okay, there's some apples, a banana.. least I think it's a banana.. might be a plantain, I dunno man, fruit is weird. Uh... grapes, bread, a bit of cheese and some meat. " He shrugged and glanced back at the kitchen. "How drunk do you think they're gonna get?"

"Probably pretty drunk." Thaila sighed, his hand trying to feel what each item was.

"That's what worries me. Last time Kay ended up getting in a fight and knocking himself out. He's a really fucking dumb drunk." He shook his head. "I dunno, maybe it'll give him the courage to go talk to Asher."

"Hopefully." Thaila gingerly made his choice and took a bite into a apple.

Matt ate a little, watching Thalia. "Do you not trust me to find food you can eat?" He laughed a little.

"Maybe." He teased with a smirk, playfully sticking his tongue out.
