Upon Vestia: Chapter Eight

Starr held on when the airlocks were opened, keeping her position.  She waited to see who if any of the slavers would reach her first. Shane, doing the same in his position.

Skye and Moone nodded, moving closer to the vent to be ready to get the younger kids inside

"I do hope that won't be required," Asher said, not sure whether Kay was joking or not.
"Yes, the weaponry is well secured, and Vestia has an eye on everything. We're, well, not safe exactly, but not in immediate danger either." He added with a bit of dry humor, "Which means you should rest now, so you'll be prepared for whatever happens next."

Kay sighed. Yeah Asher was right, he knew he was right. The rational part of his brain totally agreed with him, but the drunk part of his brain was too busy telling him that he should totally invite him in.
He swallowed hard, nodded and opened the door. "Goodnight Asher." shut up drunk brain, shut up shut up. He hesitated for a moment, then kissed Asher softly on the cheek and backed into the room. Yes, he should sleep, before he did anything else stupid.

"Good night, Kay," Asher said affectionately. He turned to head back back the hallway when Kay had closed the door, feeling very cautiously optimistic. Maybe there was hope after all, like Matt had said. Maybe.

~~~The next morning~~~

Shane made his way to the galley for breakfast. He was hungry since he had spent most of the evening and night watching children's movies. Now that was a cure to thinking about bad things if you picked the right ones.

Skye and Moone had popped in to watch a movie before going to bed the night before and were also going in to breakfast now.

Starr was regretting her choices, or would be if she had been aware enough of the nightmare that held her in it's grip. The sedative kept her from being able to wake on her own, trapping her in it. The worst part was that this wasn't her nightmare, but the lives of all her people that had been enslaved and added their anger to the gathered energy that she had tapped into. She could now tell where each of them were, or the ones she had seen taken already, there were many more to go.

Ellie went to eat breakfast with the others. This morning, she picked the oatmeal with the "dinosaur eggs" in it. "Hey, guys," she said to Shane and the hawk girls.

Asher went to find Starr. She was usually up by this time of day, and he thought he had been avoiding her long enough. Terrifying in her fury she might be, but the last time he had neglected to talk to her, she had let Sulon be slaughtered. He didn't want that to happen again.
He knocked on the door to her room.

Matt totally slept in, he needed sleep.

Mourn was eating some sort of weird mush and waved to Ellie as she walked in. "morning terran!"

Kay woke up with a headache and many many regrets about his poor life choices. He groaned as he sat up, rubbing his aching head. Yeah, he deserved this. At least it wasn't as bad as last time.
Slowly he started to remember the conversation the night before, smiling softly at bits of it and wincing as he remembered that extremely awkward kiss. Eugh, Vestia was going to be difficult now wasn't she?

He went to shower and dress, then went in search of painkillers. The medical room was thankfully not far and this time of morning, nice and dim. He didn't bother with lights, he knew where things were kept well enough. He was somewhat grateful Asher wasn't here, he wasn't quite sure he could face him just yet. Eventually he'd have to apologize for his behavior, but that could wait till he didn't have a headache.

Thaila laid curled up comfortably in Matt's arms. For once he had a full night rest without a nightmare. While this was enjoyable the call of food started to wake him late morning..

No nightmares was definitely progress. Matt clearly needed a proper night's sleep that wasn't interrupted by screaming, punching and things being set alight.
He stirred as Thalia started to move and as is brain slowly cottoned on the fact the person in his arms was moving, he woke with a start and raised both hands to defend his face.

"Nngh." Thaila mumbled, for once not decking his poor lover, "Fooood.." He moaned, trying to force his drained body to move.

Matt cautiously lowered his hands, blinking sleepily. "Nghhh.. too early. " He complained, oblivious to the actual time.

Shane grinned and waved to Ellie and Mourn before going to get his breakfast then joining Ellie to eat the oatmeal he had picked out. "Morning" He said with a covered yawn.

Skye and Moone both greeted the others as they went to get breakfast, both wanting eggs and sausage before joining Mourn

Starr moaned and rolled over, the knock wasn't enough to pull her from her sleep.

"Its almost afternoon." Thaila mumbled, "Damn...what ever happened last night...was draining.."

"Really? Woah... " Matt rolled onto his back. "Yeah... " He couldn't help but smile thinking about it and took Thalia's hand in his. "I don't think I can get up."

"Ugh.. I'm gonna try damnit...want food." He moaned, holding onto Matt hand he admittedly fell out of bed, "Yike!"

Ellie grinned at everyone and picked out one of the sugar dinosaur eggs to eat. "Anyone know what that planet we're going to next will be like?"

"Starr?" Asher called softly, not sure he wanted to wake a sleeping dragon.

Matt got yanked almost out of bed himself and only just managed not to fall on top of Thalia. "Uh... you okay down there?" He peered over the edge of the bed. "Think Vestia does room service?"

"No" Shane answered then shrugged "So long as it isn't too bad, it should be fine" He added then settled to eat his meal.

Starr whimpered as another of the stories started in her mind.

"Legs decided to not work." He whined, "Can you help me back up..? And might as well ask.."

"uh.. " Matt kinda flailed as he tried to help Thalia but he was feeling pretty exhausted himself and didn't quite have the strength to haul him back onto the bed. "I think you might have to stay there. "

"Ugh.." He grunted and with lack of grace clawed his way slowly back up onto the bed. Panting he sprawled there, "Better.."

"Maybe it'll be a cat planet," Ellie said, "Mourn can fight all the cats."

Asher gave the door a concerned look, hearing Starr's whimper, and knocked a bit more loudly.

Mourn tilted his head. "Why fight cats?" He asked, looking a little confused.

Matt laughed. "oh gods we're pathetic.. you realise this right? Shit.. why was that so exhausting?! "

"I would love to know honestly...well our love life is for sure slowed." He whined, "Vestia..? Veeeestia?"

"Cats fight, right? And you're a cat, sort of," Ellie said. "A really tall cat, but you know."

"Yeeeees, Thaliaaaa?" Vestia replied sweetly.

"Ugh...your enjoying our suffering too much.." He grumbled, "Can we please get room service?" He begged.

Mourn punched his chest. "I Felid. Not tall cat." Honestly though, he knew next to nothing about his own race beyond that.

"Will you boys be modifying my audio system?" Vestia asked, teasing.
