Upon Vestia: Chapter Six

Matt nodded and helped Thalia out into the hall, giving Merith a wide berth. No way was he trusting that guy.

Skye frowned at his hand then reached over to touch it "It's only for a little while" She said gently

Mourn nodded. "Hopefully. " He sulked. "Don't like. Feel helpless."

Skye looked at him then at his hand again "I bet it would still hurt to get hit with that hand, even covered like that."

Mourn smiled oddly. "Maybe.. maybe." that made him feel a bit better.

Vestia waited for permission to begin landing procedures.

Ellie smirked at Shane. "I bet we could sooo get arrested here. This guys are seriously bossy."

Asher watched Matt go, smiling. It was really nice how much Matt cared about his brother.
He looked back at Kay. "We don't need to restock here, do we?"

Skye shrugged and smiled a little then headed for the ramp so they would be ale to get off

Shane shook his head and looked to Ellie "Maybe, but I also bet it would be hard to get out if you were arrested."

Kay shook his head. [Not that I know of, Heny hasn't managed to get through all our sedatives just yet. Though I should try to obtain a cheap tablet, we're getting through a lot of paper and my wrist is starting to cramp] He smiled that "i'm joking" smile of his.

"If I could afford a bail, I'd totally do it to test your hypothesis," Ellie said, grinning. "It'd be so worth it. One time on my home planet, we were protesting the new spaceport that was being put up, so we all lay in the street and got arrested overnight. It was crazy."

"Good idea," Asher agreed. He chuckled and sat down in one of the office chairs, "Perhaps fancy omnicoms have too much of a habit of getting lost." He barely forced his eyes to not stray back to Vestia's all-seeing camera. What do you know about Kay now, Ship?

Shane chuckled lightly then shrugged "Being arrested was never something I wanted to do, but it has happened a time or two"

Kay nodded. [I really should pay Starr back.] He didn't seem to notice Asher's suspicion of the ship.

Mourn waited impatiently as the ship landed. "What we do?" He asked the girls. "No girl shopping please, too much torture!"

"What's all this about getting arrested?" Matt rejoined Ellie and Shane. "it's SO not as fun as it sounds."

"Flying, exploring' Skye said then shrugged "This may be our only chance to see places like this, so we want to see it."

Shane smiled at Matt again, shaking his head "It is not fun, or wasn't for me, apparently Ellie had fun when she got arrested though"

"We were talking about my delinquent youth, and how easy it probably is to get arrested here. I mean, look at these guys! They're so serious, they probably don't even have birthday parties." Ellie waved a hand dramatically, "Imagine that. And it wasn't fun, it was crazy. Big difference. We were all super proud of our protest, only then they built the spaceport anyway."

Asher smiled and didn't voice his concerns. He trusted Vestia, anyway, so telling Kay would probably just lead to unneeded stress right now.
"Starr can be unnervingly charitable at times. She'll probably forgive you if it takes you a bit longer to get the money together."

Mourn nodded. "Be fun! Better than lab, yes."

Matt chuckled "Yeah, plus I always got the added fun of Kay's "I just bailed you out" lecture. Sometimes I wondered which was worse heh."

Kay nodded. [Even so, I will feel better not being in her debt. ]

Skye nodded and shivered a little at the reminder "I hope we never go back there again." She said quietly. "I wish there was a way to shut it down"

Shane chuckled and looked to the ramp "Well, one way to find out is to go."

Vestia was given permission to land.

"Explosives good solution." Mourn suggested merrily. "Lots of explosives."

Vestia landed, thinking about lycanthropy, inspections, and air currents.
"We're here, guys!" she called to her passengers, slamming herself majestically into the tarmac for effect.

"You sure make me look like a model citizen," Ellie told Matt. "Kay must have hated that. Let's get off this ship and do some birdwatching!"

"I can understand that." Hearing the announcement, Asher stood. "Well, want to go see what sort of a place has that much security? Because I'm curious."

Matt laughed. "Sure!" He looked around, wondering where Thalia had gotten to. Oh well, he'd find him at some point he was sure.
"Thanks Vestia!"

Kay looked a little uncertain, but nodded and stood up. May as well get this over with.

Skye nodded then sighed and shook her head "Not so good for the other kids they took" She said then looked up at the anouncement

Mourn's good eye narrowed. "Better off dead." He muttered, then immediately looked up as everyone else reacted to vestia's annoucement. Ahh, they had landed. He caught his balance just in case, and looked out the window.

"Wish I'd brought my binoculars," Ellie joked, before rushing down the ramp.

"So do we need to pick up this," Asher paused, reluctant to use the same word Kay had used to describe it, "Identification item somewhere?" He tried to keep his expression and voice calm, detached from the outrage the idea caused him.

Skye and Moone looked out the window then headed for the ramp so they could go outside.

Shane chuckled softly and followed Ellie. He hoped to keep her out of trouble today.

Asher sneaked away quickly, needing time to think, and wanting to speak to Vestia about current events. He went to her growing rooms to wire in electronic parts, because it was the best way to avoid being interrrupted.

“Back already?” Vestia asked when Asher had connected the speakers up in one of her newly-grown rooms. “And you and Kay both look like you had an awful time. Either this is about Kay’s disease, or you told him your feelings. Or both. Knowing you guys, probably both.”

“So you did hear Kay and the inspector when they talked, then?” Asher asked, grasping for the topic that while unpleasant, was at least easier to view objectively.

“Yes, and as you probably guessed, I’m not going to tell anyone. Now tell me what happened.”

Asher did, summarizing vaguely, and omitting Kay’s story completely. “You were definitely right when you warned me to be prepared for rejection,” he said. “Tell me, did I mess things up irreparably?”

Vestia thought about that for a bit. “Did he run away in panic, telling you to never talk to him again?”

“No, like I said--”

“Then nothing’s ruined yet,” Vestia interrupted sternly. “Give him time to think, you took him completely by surprise.” She chuckled, “You’re both so oblivious, it’s amazing. How could you not see each others’ feelings developing is beyond me.”

Asher wired in her camera and glared into it.

“Sorry. What I’m trying to say is, you need to not worry so much. Worst that happens, you have a cold, professional relationship as coworkers from now on. But Kay would only do that because he likes you so much and wants to make out with you in front of everyone in sickbay but knows he shouldn’t, so you can take comfort in knowing that he’s daydreaming about you every time he looks at you emotionlessly and barely acknowledges your existence.”

“You have issues, Vestia,” muttered the android.

“Best case, he’ll totally come looking for you and tell you he wants to take this risk,” Vestia said soothingly, “Relax, Asher, I don’t think Kay is actually going to shun you. He’s not like that. At least, not with you.”

“I hope you’re right,” he said wearily.

Kay would return to his room, setting up his tablet distracted him for a brief while, but not really long enough unfortunately. He fiddled with the silver bracelet the Avian's had forced him to wear, regarding it with distaste as he examined the simply thing.
Lycanthropy, it really had taken everything from him, one stupid mistake had paved the way for a lifetime of awful. Still, he mused, even without it, he'd have probably found some way to screw everything up anyway.

What was he supposed to do now though? The thought of how awkward things were between he and Asher now made his chest hurt, they weren't ever going to be able to just go back to how things were, it didn't work like that. Stupid stupid robot, you weren't supposed to develop feelings, you weren't supposed to be ABLE to.

Damnit Asher, why'd you have to be so sweet and understanding and tolerant of everything. It would have been easier had he been a jerk about all this but no, he had to be his usual kind lovely self. Kay rested his head against the wall. So what now?

His gaze drifted to the camera he always kept covered up, he valued his privacy and had never much liked the idea of the ship watching him sleep, but she DID see everything else and she definitely knew what was going on.

He stood up and uncovered the camera, gazing into it uncomfortably for a moment before writing down.

[I know I know, we're both idiots right?]

Vestia was too surprised to respond for a moment, then she replied dryly, "Yes, probably. What can I do for you?"

Kay shrugged. [It doesn't feel right asking you for advice to be honest, but you are the best... person? to have a well rounded view. I'm sure you already know exactly what's going on. I'm terrified.] He confessed.
