Upon Vestia: Chapter Fifteen

James narrowed his eyes, realizing he'd just given Esk some great ammunition to annoy him with. Oh well, too late now. "Yes it's annoying! How could it not be annoying?"

Skye heard something and came out, looking at James curiously. "James, what's going on?"

James looked around at Skye, glaring a bit less furiously for a moment. She wasn't a jerk like Esk and Vestia, right? "She put me on house arrest!" He fumed. "She and Asher are conspiring against me!"

Skye looked over to Vestia's camera with a frown then looked back to James. "I'm sure she wouldn't do so without a reason, do you want a distraction?"She asked gently.

"They're censoring me," James said sourly, "I think the Guild is lazy and full of horse crap, and Asher won't let me say anything about it." He punched the airlock door, which did absolutely nothing, "I want OUT!"

Skye frowned at him punching the airlock. She came over and laid a hand on his arm, ready to back off if he didn't want her there. "James, please calm down. Come with me, you sound like you need to focus on something else for a while. "

Luka peered out to see what the hell was going on, one hand on her gun just in case. She frowned at James.
"what?"

James did calm down a little bit when Skye put her hand on his arm. He was a robot after all, and every bit of his code was opposed to being violent and punching things when an organic was so close. A sensible part of his brain told him that this was incredibly stupid, too, although he didn't want to listen to that.
He looked at Luka, still glaring a bit. "Vestia's a jerk, Ethan's a traitor, Esk's a dick, and Asher's spineless." He slapped the airlock with less force. "Look."

"James needs a distraction from thinking of the guild." Skye said and glanced to Luka then looked back to James again. "Come on, what do you like to do?"

Luka looked at him and tried not to laugh. "Esk's always a dick, the others? I'm sure they don't mean it." She glanced to Skye. "Let's go do... I dunno.. something fun. "

James glared up at Vestia's nearest camera. "I want to go yell at some Guild people, not that I can." He growled and stepped away from the airlock door. "Fine, let's find something to do." He wanted to get drunk. Not that he could. Argh.

Skye frowned and tilted her head. "What about if you yell at ones on the holodeck?" She asked curiously and looked to the cameras. "If that is possible?"

"Not the same," James said, shaking his head. "The holograms couldn't have done anything to help." He sighed. The fury he'd felt while yelling at Esk didn't really want to last around less abrasive people like Luka and Skye.

"Well, it would let you yell at them." Skye said then shrugged "but we can find something else to do."

James shook his head. "I always thought that the people who wanted to help us didn't have the power to, and that the people who did have the power just didn't care about whether anyone was being enslaved or dying," he said, voice at a normal volume finally. "These guys care about subjugated species, they have a program set up to help them, and they didn't. It really sucks."

"Yeah, it does, but the others are working on making that right." Skye said gently. "Then we get to try to convince them that every species will be endangered if the Family isn't stopped." She shivered a little at that thought.

"Yeah, which means everyone has to act all nice so they don't get offended and leave us all to suffer because they're selfish," James muttered. "God I hate immortals."

"Well, it is good to not offend immortals, they tend to hold grudges in my opinion." Skye said

Luka nodded. "to be fair, there's plenty of other people they haven't helped either. They just seem to sit and judge and feel superior." She snorted. "If they're so against slavery they could stop the slave trade full stop, but they don't." She patted James on the arm softly. "Immortals are awful, especially immortals who think they're morally superior to everyone else. " She rolled her eyes. "Unfortunately we need to ally with these assholes, but that doesn't mean we all have to put up with their bullshit. " She huffed. "least I don't want to have to put up with their bullshit."

"You'd think they'd be all wise from being old, and not hold grudges. But nooo, they're as petty as Terran teenagers," James grumbled. "They could do so much with their magic, but here they are. The borrowers are alive, no doubt about it. Why doesn't anyone keep them from being eaten?" He shuddered. "Let's go do something in the holodeck, I need a change of scenery."

Skye frowned and followed James to the holodeck. "So, what would you like to do?"

James shrugged. "I have no idea. Maybe it has a random world setting we can use."

Skye nodded and thought about it as she walked along with him. "Maybe...a spelunking program?"

James blinked. Now that was a word he hadn't encountered often in his life. It was an interesting idea, yes. "Caves might be good," he agreed.

Skye smiled at that and went to look for the program on the holodeck when they arrived, going in when it came up and picking up a bag "Good, let's try this out." There was a guide to teach and lead them too.

"Caving?" Luka shrugged and picked up a bag. "Well, sounds distracting at least."

James peered in curiously before stepping into the holodeck. "Not something I've ever done," he said.

"Me either, that's why I picked the 'easy' setting." Skye said teasingly
