Upon Vestia: Chapter TWENTY

Heny stood there and listened as the two spoke, her heart beat rising. She had visited him a couple of times but found it too painful with eveything going on.

Even so, perhaps save the gliding lessons for lower heights yes? Kay advised.

Matt grinned at Danika. "Careful up there, don't want you falling too kiddo."

Web smiled softly, for all he'd scolded Matt earlier, he was pretty sure he would be a good dad after all.

"to the craft room! to make hats!" Matt declared.

Asher looked to Kay and Web. "What do you think, want to help them make hats, or shall we avoid the hazards of the craft room?" He said lightly.

"i'm not going anywhere near glitter." Web shook his head.

Kay shrugged. [We were just starting to get rid of the last infestation too...]

"I stay lower for a while" Kerr agreed and looked to the others again. "Make hats, no glitter?"

Vela chirped happily again, clapping her front feet.

Danika looked to Matt and nuzzled him. "I no fall, I hold on." She said quietly then motioned to Kay "Ask dad, I stay on his shoulder all the time."

Ellie went to see if Kerr wanted to climb into her arms with Vela.

Asher smiled at Web. "Sensible. Glitter is extremely undignified stuff."

Matt laughed. "It's still so wierd to hear you called Dad." he told Kay. "I believe you." He smiled at Danika.

"Yes, it's remarkably difficult to make a serious point in front of a council of immortals when you have sparkly glitter all over you. " Web agreed. "It rather detracts from your arguments and distracts your audience." He chuckled.

Danika grinned and settled in for a ride, even if it wasn't with Kay. She preferred Kay but accepted Matt for now.

Kerr went over to Ellie to climb up and join Vela in her arms,

Ellie grinned at the others and pranced off toward the crafts room with her cargo of dragons.

Asher laughed at the image of Web trying to seem dignified while debating with the council and covered in glitter. "Well I'm glad I never had to experience that after my glitter incident. It sounds very inconvenient."

Web nodded. "It was." He smiled just ever so slightly. Clearly he didn't mind it that much.

Kay rose from his seat. [I probably should try to get some sleep.] He admitted. While the kids were distracted. He still had to process Matt's news, eugh.

Matt waved to his brothers and Asher and hurried after Ellie, Danika safely on his shoulder. He kept one hand on her so she couldn't fall though. "So what kind of hat do you guys want?"

Asher smiled at Kay. "Sounds like a good plan. I'll keep an eye on the med bay, and make sure anyone who comes in with a hangover gets properly scolded." He waved to Matt and Ellie and the dragons as they left.

Ellie headed happily for the craft room.

The three babies held on for the ride to the craft room.
"What hat fit us?" Kerr asked, looking up at Ellie. "What kind of hat is there?"

"There are lots of kinds of hats," Ellie said. "I like ones with big, decorative animals on them, but those might be hard to make your size. We could make you tricorn hats, like pirates wear. And then you can decide how to decorate them!"

"or party hats, they're like.. a triangle" Matt suggested.

Kay nodded. [Come and get me in a few hours.]
He waved to his brother and headed out.

Web smiled softly. "Scolding people with hangovers?"

"Will do," Asher said. He planned to wait a few very loooong hours to wake up Kay though. The guy could really use some rest.
He laughed, "Kay has a bit of a reputation for being mean around here. He doesn't approve of people doing dumb things like drinking too much. I'm usually the nice medic, but you know, sometimes people need to be judged for their life choices, even when Kay isn't there." He smiled to show he was joking.

"Triangle hats?" Kerr asked curiously. He and Vela looked to Ellie then ahead to the room they were heading to

Danika looked back, chirping sadly when Kay didn't follow them, even though he seemed tired.

Matt petted Danika's head. "It's okay kiddo, we're way more fun to hang with." He nodded to kerr. "yeah like... cones." He gestured with his hands.

Web nodded. "too much time around Matt I expect." He chuckled. "I should let you get back to work then shouldn't I?"

Ellie nodded. "We'll make you party hats and tricorns, and you can try them out. It'll be great."

Asher smiled. "I wouldn't be surprised if Matt had something to do with his attitude. I'm not going to be all that busy, most likely. You're welcome to come along if you like."

Kerr and Vela were excited to make and try on hats.

Danika snuggled with Matt and sighed "I like not doing much" She said quietly.

Matt tilted his head. "How come?" he asked.

Web chuckled. "Well alright, but i'm not sure how much use i'll be at disapproving of hungover people."

"You can be nice and understanding then," Asher said, amused. He lead the way toward the med bay. "If we're lucky, we'll only get sensible patients. I'm not much good at being mean either."

Web laughed. "Well I suppose someone has to balance out Kay's attitude."

"I suppose so," Asher agreed. He looked up at Web as they walked, "So how was the festival last night? I heard you went?"

Web nodded. "It seemed politically unwise not to." He shrugged. "it was interesting. Very much more theatrical and organised than any festival i've been to previously. There was an actual play."

"I can't say I know much about what festivals are supposed to be like, but that does sound unusual," Asher said. They reached the med bay, and he held the door for Web. "The Guild does seem to have a certain style to it, they love tradition and history and art though, so I'm not surprised it would be very organized. Do you think you could possibly form diplomatic relations with the Guild at some point?" he asked curiously.

"So I don't get hurt again." Danika answered quietly.

Kerr and Vela looked up to Ellie and bounced a little excited to be doing something with her.

"I'm not sure, there seems to be a great deal of political unrest here, particularly within their own ranks. Those I spoke to about it mentioned three factions, none of which sound like they're overly enthusiastic about peaceful negotiations with outsiders. Forging alliances would undermine their claim of impartiality, though from what I have learned of the current state of things, perhaps the time for neutrality is long gone." Web shook his head. "Still, I see no reason not to extend every courtesy I can. If nothing else, they could offer refuge for the outcast."

Matt looked at Danika "Oh sweetheart, don't think like that" He patted her head. "If you live your live forever afraid, you'll never get the experience any of the good stuff. "

Asher nodded. "You may be right. I hope that the turmoil here will settle down once the Family are defeated, but who knows? I suppose it is common sense to foster good will whenever you can though."

"Aww, a bit of pain is nothing to be scared of, it just means you're super tough because you got through it!" Ellie said. SHe headed into the closet and started finding construction paper.
