Upon Vestia: Chapter TWENTY

Heny stood there and listened as the two spoke, her heart beat rising. She had visited him a couple of times but found it too painful with eveything going on.

Vestia apologetically notified Asher that he was needed to babysit Heny's twins.

Asher pulled himself out of power saving mode. Oh boy, spending time with Heny's babies. His experience with them was limited, and a bit tainted with Heny's screams, yay. He looked to the baby dragons, hmm, was it better to wake them and bring them along, or to let them sleep? He finally decided to let them sleep, they were the equivalent of five years old after all, and Vestia could tell him if they woke up.

He might have to bring Danika along though, she was feeling pretty anxious today, hmm.

Miss Heny wrote:The twins would be thankfully sleeping when Asher got there.

Asher carried Danika with him, trying to not wake her as he walked. He quietly asked Vestia to tell him if Vela and Kerr woke, and to reassure them that he would be back as soon as possible.

He peered in at the Keeper babies, relieved they were asleep. Humanoid babies were something he had very little experience with, and although he knew MegaBrainTech had given him programming to look after humanoid babies, he wasn't overly keen to test it out.

They would twitch here and there but for now they sleep peacefully..

Had Asher been religious, he would have prayed to some god to keep the babies asleep. Of course he wasn't religious, so instead he plugged himself in again, sat in a chair with Danika in his arms, and hoped the night would pass uneventfully. Poor Danika needed her rest.

Danika stayed asleep through the very little jostling of Asher walking so carefully with her.

Neither Rigel or Dawn tried to answer James' question. Neither knew what to do after the war.

James looked at Dawn and Rigel. "You can come with me and free my family and crew my ship," he told them. "We can figure out the rest after that."

Asher went back into power saving mode, glad that no babies had woken up.

"I'm just an old pirate, but that I can do" Rigel said then chuckled softly. Truth was, he wasn't sure he would survive these wars for freedom, they could last many years after all.

Dawn looked at each of them then shrugged "A medic is always needed where there's organics"

"I thought you were a salvager?" Luka told Rigel. In her mind they weren't the same thing, one took intact ships and hurt people, the other took ships already damaged and abandoned.

She found the thought of them all splitting up again a little sad, she'd grown fond of these people.

Rigel chuckled softly and looked to Luka again "I was called 'pirate' often enough, all I took was the ships left adrift and rescued a fair share of people with my arrival. I did help others to change their ship names and numbers as I have Vestia, so they could hide from pursuers and I kind of messed up a few ships to give innocents time to run." He shrugged a little "I got called a pirate because I took slaves from some to free them and broke slaver ships before they could take slaves...but that was in my youth."

"And this is why Rigel is awesome," James said. He smiled, "You are so hired."
Rigel laughed at that and looked back to James again "I thought I already was hired?" He said teasingly

Absently one of the twins twitched, developing a face that would make parents run in horror in her sleep..

Asher watched the girl nervously. Dontwakeupdontwakeupdontwakeup.

(XD I'm sorry asher.. I'm evil)

Within a few minutes a smell that would rival a skunk spray filled the room. The twin started to wail demanding a change.

(Hahahahaha poor robot. Poor Danika.

Oh BTW, what are the twins' names?)

Darn it.
Asher couldn't smell the smell of course, having no olfactory sensors. He could, however, hear the baby's discomfort just fine, and realized he was going to have to figure out what the problem was.
"Sorry Danika," he said softly, gently picking her up to move her off his lap. She could stay on the chair cushion where he had been sitting maybe, at least that was warm.

Danika could smell it and it woke her more than the moving. She started to take a breath to chirp then sneezed and looked around the room. Ew. She saw the bed and went to climb on it so she could hide her snout in the covers.

Well judging by Danika's reaction, Asher knew the source of the problem now. He gave his poor daughter an apologetic look, then headed over to the keeper baby to pick her up. "Shh, shh," he told her, "You're going to be fine."

She wiggled and squirmed, wailing her head off needing a diaper change. Asher would find all he needed to do so in the room obviously.

Asher sighed annd searched his preset programming for helpful advice on changing diapers. It felt very weird to be using a part of his code that he'd never really had to try before, but hey, the information was there and it was way more useful than guesswork. Once he felt sure he knew what he was doing, he went to change the kid's diaper. Fun times. Why did humanoids love babies so much again? They were so messy and noisy and helpless!

She would squirm all the way until fully changed. Grinning she started to giggle and attempt to play with him.

Whew, well he was glad that the crying was over for now. Asher went and washed his hands very, very thoroughly before picking up the baby. "Come on," he told her jokingly, "You should go back to sleep, so you'll be nice and rested up to bother Heny when she comes home." He went over to check on poor Danika and see how she was doing.

Danika raised her head a little when the crying stopped to look at Asher and the baby. She chirped unhappily then came over to climb up to his shoulder so she could look at the baby curiously. She tried to sniff the girl, chirping curiously

Asher smiled apologetically at Danika. "Sorry about this," he told her, "Heny's babies needed someone to look after them. I promise I'll make this up to you, okay?" He rocked the baby slowly. "This is what a humanoid baby is like," he explained, "They grow very differently from you, don't they?"

Danika chirped and looked to Asher then nodded "Very different. She looks like you" She said, meaning she had two arms and two legs instead of four legs.

Asher nodded. "She might be a shapeshifter when she gets older, just like you will be, she just started out in a different shape."

Danika nodded and looked to the baby again, thinking "I want your shape"

"You want to be humanoid?" Asher reached up to pet Danika affectionately. "When you're old enough to shapeshift, you can try it out and see how you like it. There's a lot to be said for being a dragon though."

Unfortunately to Asher luck this twin would be up for a bit, luckily for him there would be some breast milk in the fridge already bottled just waiting to be heated if she became hungry.
