Good Cop Bad Cop: Chapter One

One week. Asher has to be mean, Kay has to be nice. Whoever gives up first has to write a story for the winner. Should be... interesting.

Asher tried hard to not laugh. He felt like he was doing something daring and forbidden by calling people gross, even though he knew it wasn't at all. And because he knew it was actually pretty tame, he felt like a dumb five year old. But man, was it fun!
"Maybe you should explain, you're the nice one," he said, barely keeping his face straight, "And I'm glad I'm making progress with my glares."

[They aren't quite as cute as your grins though.] Kay told him, nodding. [I'll speak to Matt later, unless you think I should go now?] Oo cunning, an attempt to get out of being nice for a few minutes. He feigned concern. [Wouldn't want him fretting about us as well as Thalia right? He has enough to worry about.] He smirked

Asher considered Kay's idea, then smiled sweetly, "Maybe we should let Vestia tell Matt. We wouldn't want to leave the med bay unattended now, would we?"

[ahh good point] Drat. Curse you Asher. [Couldn't possibly leave you here unsupervised, you might make someone cry.]

"No way am I going to be the one handing out tissues and patting peoples' backs after I tell them off; it'd ruin my image. That's why you're here," Asher looked smug.

[Better find the tissues then.] Kay remarked.

"You find them," Asher said, sticking out his tongue at Kay, "I'm not nice any more, remember?"

Kay smiled and went to find them, putting them on the desk. [You'll crack soon enough. ]

TIMESKIP - DAY 2

Asher had been spending an unusually large amount of time near or in the med bay. He didn't want to miss one moment of Kay's misery, no sir. He was changing lightbulbs in the med bay, because maybe the lightbulbs needed it.

He heard something skittering in the air ducts.

Kay hauled himself into the medlab with a cup of what was probably coffee and sat down. Yesterday hadn't been too bad, he could do this, yes.. he could do this.

He looked up at the skittering. [Sara, or the rat?] He asked. He hadn't really had much if any interaction with Bianca, aside from knowing she existed and was apparently sapient.

Whoever it was tapped on the grating lightly.

Asher went to open it, preparing his best glare, and Bianca stumbled her way into his arm, sniffing the air uncertainly. "It's the rat," he told Kay. "What's you're problem?" He asked Bianca.

Bianca moved her tail slightly, which upon close inspection would look red and swollen. "It got stuck in some grating," she explained. "I got myself free, but it needs to be looked at I think."

Kay came over. [Can you read?] He wrote, he genuinely didn't know. He tried to get a better look at her tail, that looked painful.

"Yes," Bianca said, "My eyesight isn't good though so you have to hold it close."

Asher held out his arm, hoping Kay would take Bianca before he started sympathizing with the rat. It was difficult to keep his heart stony when someone so small and fuzzy had a hurt tail.

Kay couldn't really hold a rat and type, so he just typed. [Asher, hold her gently while I find some antiseptic for that. ] It was actually rather easy to be nice to the rat, she was tiny and polite and not in the least bit irritating... at the moment anyway.
His only concern was that he wasn't really used to dealing with non humanoid patients, or patients so tiny.
He bustled off to find the things he'd need to tend her injury, leaving Asher to hang onto her.

Bianca climbed carefully onto Asher's shoulder because she felt safer there.

Asher tried to stay unsympathetic.

Bianca curled up to wait for Kay, mindful of her tail as she moved. "You seem very quiet today."

Be mean, be mean, you can do it. "You shouldn't have stuck your tail in the grating," Asher told her, "It's not a good idea."

"I didn't do it on purpose!" Bianca told him. If a rat could look hurt, she certainly did.

Asher tried hard to not show sympathy. He could feel his expression softening, and he was scared if he opened his mouth, he'd tell her it wasn't her fault, and he was sorry for snapping at her. He couldn't do that! He shut up, trying to get his niceness under control.

Kay paused, watching Asher quietly, the faintest twinkle of amusement in his eyes. He did feel slightly guilty, the poor rat had no idea why Asher was acting weird but he could go explain later. Right now, right now he was SUFFERING and it was glorious. He set the things down on the desk and indicated he bring the patient over, setting the tablet down as well so he had both hands free.

Asher met Kay's eyes and saw the amusement in them. He narrowed his own eyes in challenge, and renewed his efforts. "Well then, be less clumsy next time."
That felt so mean though. He knew how hard tails were to manage! Kay had bemoaned his, many times. Picking on someone for not being able to keep track of theirs perfectly was just cruel, wasn't it? Argh.

He let Bianca climb down onto the table.

Kay smiled reassuringly to Bianca and wrote one handed, keeping the tablet on the table for her to crawl onto to read if she had to. [I admit i'm rather guessing the process here, the antiseptic may sting but it's better than the alternative. I need to get a closer look to make sure you haven't done any serious damage okay?]

"Okay," Bianca said, "You can pick me up if you need to, I just don't want to lose my tail. It's very important to me."

Asher tried to not think about poor, tiny, injured creatures and how he should be nice to them.

Kay nodded. [Understandable.] Much as he found his own tail annoying in his true form, if you were actually used to having one it was like losing a limb right? [I'll do everything I can.] He tried to get a better look at the damage, very carefully feeling the swelling to check for any suspected fractures or lumps that shouldn't be there and weren't just swelling. Damn he wished he had some vet experience right now.

[Asher, do you happen to have any veterinary knowledge?] Hey most of the rats he'd ever encountered had been vermin they were trying to trap and get rid of.

Bianca held still, although she squeaked involuntarily at the pain. Her tail didn't seem to be fractured or dislocated at the site of the injury, although the swelling was pretty bad. The skin was only slightly torn, too.

Asher shook his head, "I don't know much about medical treatment for small animals. If her tail doesn't seem to be broken or dislocated, I suppose the best thing we can do is clean the injury and maybe wrap it." He frowned in thought.

Kay nodded. [I agree. ] He took out a swab and the disinfectant. [This may sting, and it won't be comfortable to bind the injury but it will stop anything getting into the wound. Keep an eye on it and if the swelling doesn't go down in the next day, come back and we'll have another look.] He didn't look overly certain but was treating this like one would a crush injury to a finger or something, it was all he could do. He'd clean and dress the injury.

Bianca held very still while Kay dealt with her tail injury, only occasionally squeaking. "Okay, thank you." She looked up at Asher uncertainly, "Are you okay?"

Asher tried to stay strong. He couldn't show any sign of niceness, not now! "I'm not the one with an injured tail, because I'm actually responsible," he told her, feeling instantly guilty again, "So I'm fine."

Bianca stared at him.

[He's fine, don't worry about him.] Kay told her, hoping to get her out of here before Asher actually managed to upset her. Hmm, maybe this wasn't such a good idea. He finished bandaging her tail.

Bianca eyed Asher for a few more seconds. "Maybe he's angry because he hasn't eaten enough," she speculated, "That makes me grumpy sometimes. Will you lift me up to the air vent?" she asked Kay.
