Upon Vestia: Chapter Nineteen

"With all due respect sir, the problem isn't believing in myself, the problem is a large group of extraordinarily powerful beings who seem to have it in for not just me but my entire race. And it's not just here, wherever I go i'm spat at, cursed, threatened. Why do you think I joined this crew? you were the only ones who would take me. If it wasn't some shit about being just a girl, it was flat out racism. " She sighed. "Today Esk got hurt because I'd had enough and didn't back down, he could have been killed. " She looked to Acus. "I'm tired of having to defend myself, my family, my entire culture. For all they claim to be inclusive here, today it... really didn't feel like it." She lowered her head. "I don't think i'm welcome, no, I know i'm not welcome, and it sucks. "

"Unfortunately life sucks. Severely." He remarked, "And it won't get better, not unless we pick ourselves up. I am not going to force you to this party but I reccomend preparing for one day you'll have no choice but to confront those demons. I don't ever expect a crew member to act perfect, if that was the case I would of burn myself on a stake a long time ago. You'll be surprise on possible how close we are on experiences, unfortunately you had to grow up much quicker then I in this galaxy of dog eat dog. Would you like me to bring something back for you?" He asked.

Luka frowned, she really didn't think Acus got it... at all.
She shook her head. "Just... try not to get eaten by werewolves okay?"

He shrugged while standing, "People won't change unless something shocking happens to them, the guild is proof of that." Acus headed to leave, "Don't worry we'll be leaving soon."

Luka's eyes widened. "Really? Leaving? But what about the family?"

"I never agreed to do this fool battle, if the crew does I will back them but me personally I see no reason engaging into a battle that we have no relations to"

Luka shook her head. "I don't.. I don't mean fighting them, I mean... is it safe to go back out there?" She looked longingly at the controls of the ship. "I'm no coward sir, but we've seen what these people can do. I'd sooner have an army behind me."

"Think the guild will back us?" He asked dryly, "They are like amber, powerful but will never change unless a strong force wakes them."

"What sort of movie is it?" Asher asked, watching the chicks fight a bit worriedly. Was that normal?

Armin looked to James. "At the very least get dressed up, it is good for the spirit and soul to indulge every so often, for no reason other than because you wish to." He chuckled. "Besides, it seems a pity for a beautiful suit not to be worn."

Luka frowned. "I don't know what that is sir." She told him honestly. She shook her head. "Maybe they won't, but as others have pointed out, currently this place is the most defensible. If we do leave, and I'm certain the crew will come, I don't want to fly us directly into an onslaught. " She looked pained. "This place has a huge target on it, as does this ship. We'll need to put as much space between us and here as possible, and hope like heck they can beat the family. Otherwise, well, Satare will always pick death over servitude, I will not submit to those lunatics."

James considered that. "Good point. I might well get dressed up a bit, huh? You made that sexy, sexy suit after all. Someone should wear it."

Asher smiled and sat down to watch the movie and the kids. "It's nice they have movies about dragons," he said happily. Yay, species representation!

Having locked Kay securely into his cell, Esk dragged a chair over, sat down and drew his gun, just in case.

Kay sat on the floor, head bowed.

"Well isn't this a blast from the shitty past huh?" Esk remarked.

Kay nodded grimly.

"Least these bars are stronger than the trapdoor." Esk sighed, wincing a little in pain as he re-positioned himself.

[You're still hurt.] Kay wrote.

"No fucking shit." Esk hissed back.

Kay frowned again and shook his head. [Do you need painkillers?]

"I already helped myself." Esk set the gun down to withdraw a pill box, which he rattled and then put away again.

[Just, take it easy on those.] Kay advised.

"Fuck, you act like i've never been hurt before. Funnily enough Kay, when no medics can touch you, you get pretty damn good at fixing your own problems. That includes self medicating."

Kay chewed his lip, then nodded.

"you really don't know where you stand with me do you?" Esk sounded amused.

[I suppose you're going to enlighten me then?] Kay looked wary.

Esk shrugged, wincing a little but trying to maintain a casual tone. "I dunno. I think it was easier to just hate you. I mean for the record, I still think you're a self centered little shit, but at least you're generally not totally stupid."

Kay smiled weakly. [that's the closest thing to a compliment i'm ever getting from you isn't it?]

"Damn right. And don't get used to it, i'm sure you'll fuck something up soon enough so i can go back to wanting to shoot you."

[It's going to be a long night.]

"yeah well i'm not here to keep you company. I'm here to make sure you stay in that damn cage." Esk told him bluntly.

Kay nodded. [Thank you.]

"Don't."

[What?]

"Start acting like i'm doing you a favor, doing that whole holier than thou shit. We both know you're only doing this because it makes you seem oh so caring and considerate. It feeds your ego."

[Is that really what you think?]

"I know it Kay. You just don't like to admit that everything you do, you do for utterly selfish reasons. This whole martyr complex you've got going on? It's fucking tedious. "

[So this whole evening is going to be you berating me is that it?] Kay looked grim.

Esk shrugged again. "I dunno, I think i'd rather the whole night wasn't all about you. It just makes you feel important."

Kay rolled his eyes. [Well at least you're still your positive upbeat self.]

Esk laughed. "i'm getting food and beer. " He smirked. "Don't go anywhere." He painfully rose to his feet and went to grab supplies. Kay was right, it was gonna be a long night.

Armin laughed. "I even made you a tie." He bowed his head. "come, come, I will show you!" He sounded excited. Dressing people up was his favorite passtime.

Acus nodded, "Good to hear."

"All right, I can't say no to that," James said, following Armin. "I'll look so good they'll all want to date me."

Armin chuckled. "You will have prospective partners fighting for your attention I am sure." He lead the way back to his store where he took out the suit and a beautiful green silken tie. "To bring out your eyes." He explained.

Luka nodded grimly.

"Wow," James said, trailing his fingers over the fabric appreciatively. "Definitely worth wearing. That tie is the perfect finishing touch." He'd need to go get his nice shoes he'd bought today, he realized suddenly. They were in his room currently. Oops.

Armin looked delighted. "I am most pleased you like it. "

James went to put on his suit, and came out after a bit looking pretty darn nice. He had a bit of trouble with the tie though. He'd never had any reason to wear one on the space station, so it was kinda tricky to put the thing on. He did his best.
"Did I get the tie right?" he asked Armin.

Armin came over and helped him tie the tie correctly, he was very used to tying other people's ties but he'd never worn one himself curiously enough. Go figure.
He straightened James' jacket and gently smoothed the lines, stepping back to admire the android and nodding. "You look spectacular my friend, the absolute model of a gentleman." He noticed the shoes. "Do you have formal footwear?"

"Thanks, man. I so have never had a reason to learn to tie a tie," James said. He grinned, "Between your skill and my good looks, there was no way I could be anything less than a model of a gentleman." He looked at his shoes and wrinkled his nose, "Yeah, I have better shoes on the Silver Devil. I'll need to go put them on or I'll look ridiculous."

Armin nodded. "Go, and enjoy yourself. I must be getting to this party myself, if you do decide to join us, then I look forward to seeing you. " He bowed his head once more. "it is, as always, a pleasure James."

"All right, have fun out there." James smiled softly at Armin. Such a nice guy, seriously. He headed for the Silver Devil to hunt down his new shoes.

Heny would be raiding the kitchen as everyone went and did their own thing.

James found his shoes and put them on, which made him look much less silly and much more respectable. It was a definite improvement. He decided to go visit Luka and show off/make sure Acus hadn't made her cry. He really wasn't sure if letting Acus talk to the girl had been a good idea.

Luka had resumed her sitcom marathon, though she couldn't stop thinking about Acus wanting to leave. Was it safe to leave? Where would they go? Just how dangerous was it out there?
She turned the video off and started browsing the news instead.
