Upon Vestia: Chapter Sixteen

"All those aliens, always hyping up how great they are, and it always turns out to be a lie," James said sagely. "I'm not like that though, I mean I've been known to punch minotaurs. I'd be a proper villain, I wouldn't lose."
He watched as the guy went back into the train, "Ooooh nooooo. They so should not have done that. It is ON!"

Tala knew she was too heavy for Starr to probably support her weight, so she leaned against the wall to stand. She said something in a grunting, deep-toned language, then shook her head and tried again, "My thoughts are most unsatisfactory."

Asher nodded. "You're right. Given the circumstances, and what we knew at the time, we couldn't have done much differently. It still seems unfair to you though."

Kay smiled grimly. [Nothing much we can do about it now.] He reasoned. He watched the sleeping dragon and shook his head. [Besides, it's not like i'm doing this alone.]

"You got hit by that butterfly thing" Starr said, glancing to the cup Sonata held then looking to Shane.

"I'll help you back to your room" Shane said, taking a breath then shifting to a bull minotaur's form so he would have the size and strength to help her. He had been practicing when he was alone on more forms

Kay looked up, looking amused. [Well, certainly this will take some explaining.] He frowned suddenly, hoping Starr understood.

Asher chuckled. "I think Starr will understand. Babies hatch when they want to, and we can't do much to stop them. The other passengers may find this amusing though," he added ruefully.

Kay closed his eyes, looking pained. Eugh, his brothers were going to be insufferable. he shook his head [This isn't the same as getting some girl pregnant and they know it.]

"You can blame it all on me," Asher suggested. He wrinkled his nose, "James going to be very amused."

Kay smiled softly [At least dragons appear to be more self sufficient than humanoid infants. And they aren't as noisy.]

"Yes, that's something to be thankful for. And they let you bandage their injuries too," Asher looked at the tiny dragon affectionately. She'd been such a good patient today.

Kay nodded and went back to watching the baby dragon sleep. Right now this just felt a bit surreal, it hadn't quite sunk in. She was his, that idea was so utterly alien to someone who'd never given any consideration to having kids.

Asher looked at Kay uncertainly. He seemed to be taking this well, but of course, Asher knew Kay did a great job pretending to be okay when he really wasn't. This had to be one huge shock for him. He set to work tidying things up around the room, figuring Kay would write or sign something if he wanted to talk.

Kay just sat in silence, musing over the situation and trying to come to terms with it. He'd done the right thing, hadn't he? Had there been any other way to make sure this dragon would hatch safely? Could Asher have muddled through? Eugh, so many questions. And nothing he could change. He pushed down the rising panic that nagged at the back of his mind. You have no idea what you're doing it told him.
