Upon Vestia: Chapter Twenty-Five

Starr shrugged and looked out the window again. "I don't know. I just want things to be normal."

"You can refuse, and we'll respect your wishes. But i recommend you agree to this procedure," Asher said. "It would be better for your long term health."

[Of course. You can stay here and get worse, until we have no choice but to intervene or let you die or you let us help you now, when you have a very good chance of survival.] Kay frowned. [I'd recommend not being stupid but i'm not going to treat you if you don't want to be treated. You asked for medical assistance, we're providing it. ]

Marcus growled before relenting. "Fine, do what you need to do."

Kay nodded. [Lay down. We'll get your prepped. ]

He started to prep things so they could take Marcus into surgery.

He did it slowly, though watched Kay every movement until sedated.

Asher started helping to get things ready. Stupid wheelchair wasn't very sanitary, but he could manage by changing gloves regularly.

Kay got scrubbed up and with Asher's help got Marcus ready. It was, theoretically, a minor procedure. Stop the slow leak of the venom sack, make sure those broken ribs weren't going to puncture a lung or something and then just let him sleep.

Starr and Sawna stayed back, letting the medics do their job without interference.

Marcus would instinctively stay awake as long as possible until the sedative kicked in. As asher and Kay did surgery they would seen the scarring the Arran had from his more violent past.

Kay worked hard, ,trying not to think too hard on how one who wasn't a soldier acquired so many scars.
When they were done Marcus would be wheeled into recovery to sleep off the sedative and recover.

Kay finally took a chance to go get changed into less bloodied clothes.

Asher helped Kay get Marcus patched up, feeling a bit sorry for him at the sight of those scars. Yeah, Marcus had been one of Mathew's employees, but still, it looked and sounded like Marcus had had an awful time as a slave, and Asher couldn't help but sympathize. A little bit, anyway.

He started cleaning things up once the operation was over.

Luckily for them marcus would be the first to wake, he groaned trying to push the foggy haze aside while attempting to sit up.

Sawna came over and laid a hand against his chest, away from the bandages "Don't try to sit up yet, you need time to heal" She said, frowning at the pain she could feel with the touch.

Marcus glared at her hand, "I am ex-gladiator, I do know my limits." He said dryly. That would explain all the scarrings and the brand on his bicep.

"Yes, but there is no need to push yourself right now. Your son has yet to awaken, so give your body a break." Sawna said.

"Sawna's right, there's no reason to strain yourself. You just had surgery," Asher said. "Maybe stay lying down for a while, okay?"

"I don't like staying still." He said dryly.

"I noticed," Asher said, trying to not sound snarky. "If you want, Vestia can bring you a book to read while you wait."

He paused, looking away, "Only if it in Arran or audio... I never learned to read common."

"What type of book do you like?" Sawna asked, smiling at that.

"Do you have any medical texts?" Marcus asked, "or history?"

Kay came back from getting changed to find their patient wasn't any less stubborn and difficult. He tried not to roll his eyes.

Marcus snorted at Kay, his ear twitching as he heard Amari start to stir.

Kay kept his distance from Amari, hoping Starr's defenses would hold. They usually did right?

"I'm sure Ethan's picked up some audiobooks of medical texts," Asher said. "If he hasn't yet, do you enjoy fiction at all?" He looked over at Amari a bit warily.

"Not really." Marcus said but was cut off by this horrible high pitch squeal as Amari bolted awake, panicking at being trapped.

Kay winced at the squeal. Damnit, were they going to need to sedate both of these guys?
He raised both hands and tried to look as non threatening as possible.
