Upon Vestia: Chapter Seventeen

Kay always tried so hard to be sensible and pragmatic. Asher had always loved that about him, and he loved it just as much now. He smiled softly. "No, you're definitely not alone in this."
He wasn't going to leave Kay to look after this little dragon alone. He'd gotten the guy into this situation, so now it was his job to do everything he could to help. Did that make him the other father here? Maybe. This was thoroughly confusing and he was going to need to think it over at some point. "If it wasn't already obvious, I'm here for you. Both of you," he said.

Tala snorted weakly. "I do not like that butterfly well." She let Shane help her.

"Yes we do, thank goodness," James said, "without them we wouldn't know the rest of this ship existed." He laughed.

"There could be whole tribes and you'd never know they were here." Amity laughed.

"Oh man, now that'd be strange. Go exploring one day, and find out there's a whole other group of people living here, who don't know about us either or just hid their existence from us?" James looked amused, "I like the way you think."

Amity smiled. "Thank you." He continued to look around, exploring every nook and cranny.

James let Amity look at everything. There was no rush to be anywhere, and besides, this guy and his amazing imitation of life were fascinating. Like holy crap, no wonder people got weirded out by androids when they met one and were informed they were non sentient. It really put things in perspective.
James lead the way to the library eventually, it was on this floor and it was always fun to say hi to Ethan, in his opinion.

Amity followed merrily, soaking up every single piece of information he found.

Amity smiled. "This is all very familiar." He sounded pleased. "You must have a great deal of empty shops with so few people aboard. "

Danika came over to Kay eagerly, looking up at him and chirping curiously. She stood up on her back legs, standing and reaching for him.

Ethan looked up when they came in. Oh boy, visitors. He started a bit at Amity, and just how huge he was. Normally Ethan wasn't easily intimidated, but giant plant people were kind of freaky.

"Hey baby bro! Meet Amity!" James called cheerfully.

Asher set the book aside in case Kay needed help, but really, it didn't look like he would. Danika was such a good kid.

Amity smiled warmly at Ethan. "Hello. Are you an android too?" He asked.

Kay petted Danika on the head. We need to look at your wing alright? He gestured to her bandaged wing.

Danika chirped and looked to his hand then to her bandages, dropping down to all four feet and flicking her tail as she waited.

"Yes, I'm an android," Ethan said a bit warily. "What are you?"

"This is Ethan, he's the grumpy identical twin who wears black," James said helpfully.

Ethan sighed. "Yes, that's me."

"She's a better patient than most of the adults on this ship," Asher said, amused.

Kay nodded. <If only the others could be this obliging.> He signed with a smile and then started carefully unbinding Danika's wing.

Amity tilted his head. "I am a Holographic Host unit." He told Ethan. "My name is Amity." He smiled cheerfully.

Danika watched him as he worked, chirping when it hurt as her wing came free again.

Kay winced, he didn't mean to hurt her. He examined the damage carefully to see how it was healing.

"Holographic host unit," Ethan looked mildly interested. "What does that mean?"

"You're doing just fine, it's okay. We're proud of you for being so brave, you know that, right?" Asher said soothingly to Danika as Kay worked.

It hurt more from moving after being stuck in one place than from the wound, which was healing well and fast.

Amity beamed. "I am designed to assist guests with anything they may want or need, organize activities aboard the ship, act as wakeup call and guide and generally provide company, assistance and care to ensure each guest's stay is as happy and comfortable as possible." He paused. "Of course, that was before the crash. Currently my primary objective is to ensure my surviving guest gets home safely. Red Star Cruises takes the safety of their passengers very seriously. "

Kay helped her to straighten the wing so he could assess the damage to the membrane. Star Dragons really were tough weren't they? He rummaged through his own small first aid kit for fresh guaze. It was healing well, but keeping it dry and clean was still a priority.

Okay, that was interesting. "What happened to your cruise ship?" Ethan asked.

James glared at Ethan. Even if this guy had no emotions, tract was still nice.

Danika whimpered at the stretching of her wing out, pulling it to try to get away from his hold while her other wing started flapping a little. She didn't like this much.

Amity's expression never changed, a sort of dull smile as he lightly explained. He didn't seem to have any sort of emotional response to this. "We were supposed to be traveling through the Gallus System but the destruction of Avia meant we had to detour into uncharted territory. I am not certain quite what happened, but we crashed or were hit by something. Emergency protocols activated and everyone was told to get to the escape pods. So we did. "

It's alright, it's alright. It'll be finished soon. Kay tried to sooth her but yeah, bedside manner wasn't his strong point. He worked quickly to get her wing bound again.

"Yeesh, I'm sorry man," James said, "the destruction of Avia really messed everything up."

Ethan nodded. "Someone from the Guild found you then?"

Asher reached out to steady Danika's good wing so it wouldn't flap. "You're okay," he murmured, "Kay's almost done."

"Eventually yes. " Amity looked to James and looked a bit bewildered. "Why are you apologizing?"

Danika whimpered again, trembling but settling a little. She didn't like her wing moving at all.

"That cannot be good." Starr said softly, watching them work. "She will have to be able to use her wings soon."

Kay frowned. She needs to give it time to heal, and then it's likely we'll need to give her some physiotherapy to get her used to using that wing. We can't rush this, we could end up doing more harm than good.

He finished binding her wing and petted her head gently. He didn't like hurting her, but it was neccisary unfortunately.

Starr nodded and sighed "I know, but it will likely hurt her chances of flying with the others." She said softly, petting her two babies to keep them calm. "I know that you don't want to harm her."

Danika crooned softly, wanting to be held now that her wing was resettled.

Kay picked Danika up and petted her.

He nodded to Starr I know, she's healing well but she needs time to recover to get used to the idea of that wing being usable. Baby Star Dragons appear to be extremely resilient, but we can't rush her. We'll do all we can to encourage her to exercise that wing, if she ends up a little delayed then so be it.
