Upon Vestia: Chapter Seventeen

Kay always tried so hard to be sensible and pragmatic. Asher had always loved that about him, and he loved it just as much now. He smiled softly. "No, you're definitely not alone in this."
He wasn't going to leave Kay to look after this little dragon alone. He'd gotten the guy into this situation, so now it was his job to do everything he could to help. Did that make him the other father here? Maybe. This was thoroughly confusing and he was going to need to think it over at some point. "If it wasn't already obvious, I'm here for you. Both of you," he said.

Tala snorted weakly. "I do not like that butterfly well." She let Shane help her.

"Maybe we should look here now, and then in the Guild tomorrow when we can take the day off?" Asher suggested.

Starr tilted her head at that then nodded "Either that or ask Dawn. She can call for help if anything serious comes up"

Kay nodded. He always failed to think of the B team, too used to doing things just he and Asher.

Asher smiled. "Good idea. Think we should make James work too?"

"If you think he would today" Starr said jokingly and picked up the bag to settle it on her and make sure it fit right.

[James will try to find an excuse. Tell him if he doesn't we'll start insisting on name tags, and change his to Constance officially.]

"Vestia, can you ask James and Dawn to take over medic duty for the rest of the day?" Asher asked.

"Will do," Vestia said.

"James, can you go on medic duty? The medics have baby stuff to worry about," Vestia said.

"WHAT?" James said.

"Medic duty. Or you get a nametag that says 'Constance'," Vestia said.

James gave Vestia a halfhearted finger, then sighed. "Fine, tell 'em I'm on it."

"He's on it," Vestia said. "He gave me a rude gesture though and now my feelings are hurt."

"I'm so sorry," Asher said, wide-eyed, "Are you okay?"

"No, I'm wounded forever!" Vestia joked.

Vestia alerted Dawn about medic duty.

Dawn looked up to the camera then chuckled and nodded "Alright, I'll head there" She said, taking her library books to read them there.

[Don't worry Vestia, i'll sort out that nametag for him.] Kay smirked. [He'll regret being rude to you.]

"Thanks Kay, nice to know you have my back," Vestia turned her lights slightly pink.

James headed to the med bay, grumbling.

Dawn headed for the med bay too, going in to lay on one of the empty beds and start reading her book

James came in, humphed loudly, and flopped himself down in an office chair hard enough for it to creak in protest. "The nerve of them! Having babies without asking me, so they can take maternity leave!"
Yes, he was going to be dramatic about this. It made him happy.

Kay nodded to Vestia [Always.]

"Shall we go?" Asher asked Starr and Kay. "The babies will be all right to travel?"

Kay looked down at the sleeping dragon. She seemed pretty safe and cosy there. He looked back to Starr for confirmation.

Dawn glanced over to James and chuckled "She brought the eggs over from the other universe, didn't you see them?" She asked curiously

Starr nodded and stood up "Yes, their scales have hardened and they can travel, so long as they stay warm" Not really a problem with Kay's, she was snug in there. Starr grabbed the food container, making sure it was full in case the babies woke up while they were out.

"Yes well, now Kay's imprinted on one of them which is why we're here," James leaned back to stare up at the ceiling, "WHY?"
He knew why, of course. And honestly he wan't mad about this. He was just a drama queen sometimes.

Asher looked around for anything they might need, hmm. Actually, he and Kay probably had enough medical supplies, and the Guild would have anything else. This was such a big occasion, eek.

Dawn sat up at that, closing her book and looking at James "What? Your joking right? One of them thinks Kay's their mom?" She giggled then, thinking about that

Starr did the same, looking around, though dragons didn't need much besides food and access to a toilet and them.

"Kay was in the room when the last one hatched and she decided he was her parent," James said. He smiled a bit, "It's actually adorable."

Kay just waited patiently. What did baby dragons need? He hadn't a clue.

"I guess we are ready" Starr said then shrugged "First outing" She chuckled and shook her head a little

Dawn giggled again and looked up at the ceiling as she sat back "Well"

Kay smiled but there was a bit of uncertainty in his eyes. First outing, to the unpredictable guild capital. Yeah.. great idea... that couldn't possibly go horribly wrong. He bit down on his lip and nodded. They best get going, before he had time to talk himself out of this.

Asher smiled softly at Kay, understanding his concern all too well. "Come on, let's find some cute picture books and maybe some star dragon textbooks. Then we can head back here to read them."

"Crazy, isn't it?" James said. "Hope they aren't gonna make us work full time now."

Starr nodded and went to the door so she could close it behind them as they left her room

Dawn nodded "That is odd, but I guess if it's imprinting there really isn't much they can do about it."

Kay headed out, leading the way mostly because he knew if he didn't he'd find some excuse not to go, even though the paranoia was ridiculous. They were certain there were no more regret butterflies right? and no boars running around free to gore people? yes?

"Yep, stuck with a kid. So now we get extra medic duty!" James grabbed a pen and wrote a sign, [Have you thanked your overworked medics today?]

"We could just go to the ship's library today," Asher suggested. Yeah, he was a bit wary of the Guild too.

Kay smiled softly [That would defeat the point of roping the B team into medical duty. Besides, I need to get a name badge for James. Think there's a place that'll engrave those?]
