Upon Vestia: Chapter Sixteen

"All those aliens, always hyping up how great they are, and it always turns out to be a lie," James said sagely. "I'm not like that though, I mean I've been known to punch minotaurs. I'd be a proper villain, I wouldn't lose."
He watched as the guy went back into the train, "Ooooh nooooo. They so should not have done that. It is ON!"

Starr chuckled at the two saying the same thing basically "Yes, a list of appropriate names for dragons, separated by boy and girl names to choose from, starting with those six. Maybe we can roll a die to pick?"

After she'd showed and brushed her teeth, Luka came back in a towel with another one around her head and started looking for clothes to take back into the bathroom to get dressed into. "Should have taken clothes in with me." She made a face. Oops. Ahh well, she wasnt overly shy about being mostly undressed in front of people anyway, and given how much of James she'd seen ahem.

James laughed. "It's okay, I probably won't stare."
He actually didn't stare at her. For all his joking, he wasn't actually that rude. He started peering at her nightstand.
Sort of rude.

Asher nodded. "Sounds good. We'll need to screen the names carefully. I don't trust some of these guys here."

Starr nodded and looked back to the boy "Ellie, come here and sit down, I think he wants to meet you now"

Luka laughed softly and went back into the bathroom to change. "Not even a peek at my tattoos?" She teased. It wasn't like she ever really hid them though.

Ellie went over. "So, so cute," she whispered. She sat next to Starr, "Hey little guy, you don't have a name yet so I'm calling you adorable."

"I already saw tattoos when we were looking at hot generals yesterday," James said, "I'm still recovering from that."

The boy squeaked and reached out to catch her scent "Hold your hand out gently and he may choose to come to you" Starr said.

Ellie held out her hand, watching the little dragon adoringly. "Hey little guy, how are you doing?" She cooed.

Asher, now that Shane had freed him from his tiny dragon friend, stood up. "I'm going to go make sure Kay hasn't terrorized anyone in my absence," he said, smiling at Starr. "It looks like there are plenty of people to babysit if you need babysitters."

Starr chuckled softly and nodded "Thank you for being here with me" She said to Asher then looked back tot he boy as he sniffed at Ellie's hand then tentatively crawled over to her, squeaking curiously.

Asher nodded. "It was wonderful to see," he said, "I'm glad I was there." He headed out the door, back in the general direction of the med bay. He wasn't in a huge rush, after all.

Ellie let the dragon climb onto her. She looked completely delighted. Yay baby dragons!

Starr smiled at her then turned to check on the egg again and to clear the shells off the incubator from the other two.

Shane scooted over so the two babies could see one another and he could sit next to Ellie.

Ellie held the boy dragon to look at the girl dragon. "What do you think Shane, are they the cutest things ever?" She tried to not squee. Her mind was on one track right now, and that track was THESE BABIES ARE SO AMAZING. Which she couldn't say out loud because it would scare them.

Luka laughed. "So much to recover from." She came back into the room having gotten dressed into cargo pants and a vest.

"I'm sure you understand. That man was all a guy like me can handle at once," James said, making his face look very serious. "Ready to go?"

Luka scoffed. "You're ridiculous." She ran a hand through her hair, adjusted the strap of her vest and nodded. "Yeah, breakfast.. or.. lunch.. what the heck is the time?"

Kay was playing freecell or something now, he glanced up when Asher came back in and flicked the tablet back to word processing. [So Starr's now a surrogate mother yes? I feel she should be congratulated.] He smiled softly.

James laughed. "It's about nine in the morning. You didn't sleep in all that much." He added, "And I'm hurt that you think I'm ridiculous." He didn't look hurt.

"Yes she is. Two new hatchlings now, and one later this week." Asher smiled softly, "She's a good parent, no doubt about it. They're lucky to have her."

Luka smirked at him. "Come on, I need food... and caffeine.. and more pain killers."

Kay nodded. [Do you think she might change her mind about staying?]

James rolled off Luka's bed and followed her. "Sounds like a plan."

"I'm not sure what she'll decide to do. She'll try to do what's best for them of course, but it's not exactly easy to know what that is." Asher went to the shelf he had been sorting before he left with Starr, and looked at it critically. Still needed some work.

[I'm still worried about how long this place will remain safe. There's so many vulnerable people here.] Kay shook his head and got up to help with the shelf.

Luka nodded. "Don't suppose you've got any more pain relief pills have you?"

Shane chuckled and nodded, gently petting the girl as she sniffed at Ellie then her 'brother' before settling in his hand again.

Asher nodded. "This place is such a target, and the people here need safety so much. As usual, there don't seem to be any easy answers." He looked at the shelf and chuckled, "I have no idea. It just happens. Maybe someone was getting at the painkillers and knocked things out of order."

James felt his pockets. "Nope. Wanna brave the medics, or should I go alone?"

Ellie looked up at Starr. "Need any babysitters? I volunteer!" she said.

Starr chuckled softly "I am sure I will need some, though at this age most of what they will do is sleep and eat."

"Good thing they sleep and eat so adorably!" Ellie said, petting the baby dragon she was holding.

Luka snickered. "How about I go eat and you go brave Nurse Freidman's bitchy glare?" Yeah Kay was a bit scary. "oh! You can take him his books back too... or his.. brother's books or whoever's these are." She picked up the few books she'd separated out from the rest. "I need to tidy this all up later but i'll do that when my head isn't aching and I feel less gross." She made a face. She was doing a good job of functioning but she didn't feel great.

[We should start locking things away.] He joked. [Still, at least if they're self medicating they won't annoy us with their hangovers so much. ]

James laughed and took the books. "Think you can make it to the cafeteria on your own?" he teased.

"At least none of them seem to have developed any dependencies," Asher said. "As long as they're only using pain meds for actual pain, we're okay."
