Good Cop Bad Cop: Chapter One

One week. Asher has to be mean, Kay has to be nice. Whoever gives up first has to write a story for the winner. Should be... interesting.

Starr sighed at that and looked away from him, staring at the wall as she thought about the pros and cons, the benefits and the dangers before finally giving a short nod. "Alright" She did not like this, but he was right, the benefits likely outweighed the cons.

Kay looked sympathetic. He recalled with a pang of unease the slavers and who knew what they were using his blood for.

"I know it's not ideal, but it's probably the best option. We'll keep in safely locked away, like we do all the blood," Asher said gently.

Kay gave Starr an encouraging look and unhooked anyone else who was done, labelling up bags and making sure James got them safely put away. He also plucked down any of B team's signs he happened to pass with a faint self satisfied smirk.

James stuck out his tongue at Kay. "Using me as a delivery boy, and tearing down our signs! You're mean."

Kay nodded and looked pleased with himself. Yes, yes he was mean, and damn it felt good to be back. HAH. No, he'd leave being good cop to Asher, who was far better at it. He'd be the mean one, it was just more natural.

James gave Kay a look of mock betrayal.

Asher smiled at Kay's meanness. Oh, he was so in his element, and it was fun to see.
He went to get Starr set up to draw her blood.

Starr gave Asher a smile, just because he was trying to make her feel better. "I know, I just can't help but to worry." She thought of Matt2 again and what they had wanted to use her blood for and did use Kay's for...he could probably hear those thoughts.

Asher patted Starr's shoulder--the arm that didn't have tubing connected to it--gently. "Of course you're worried. After everything we've been through, you'd be silly not to be. Just try to not worry too much, okay?" He smiled slightly.

Starr nodded and reached to pat his hand, a bit awkward using that same hand as the shoulder he was patting, but oh well. "I will try." She agreed.

Once Starr was done, Asher disconnected her and handed James the blood bag, which he took with another of his signature exaggerated humphs.

"It looks like the rush is dying down," Asher remarked, "Maybe we can evict James soon before his bad attitude infects us." He looked amused.

[Perhaps we should set him to work sweeping up all the cookie crumbs. He has to earn his keep somehow right?] Kay suggested, shooting James a sickeningly sweet smile.

"Hmm, yes, that's a good idea," Asher said slyly.

"Hey! I object to this on the grounds that... that..." James tried to find an objection.

"You'll get paid," Asher pointed out, "And there's no blood involved. It's like a dream come true for you!"

James glared.

Kay went to find the broom and thrust it into James' hands.

James took the broom with a look of indignation, and started furiously sweeping.

Asher looked amused, and started putting equipment away. "It's okay! Think of the paycheck!"

James gave him another glare. "Dawn's better than both of you put together. So there! You're both jerks. Even though you" he flounced over and prodded Asher in the chest "are supposed to be nice. Lies, I tell you! LIES!"

Kay watched James have his tantrum with an unimpressed look on his face. He folded his arms and quirked an eyebrow at him.

"And you," James turned his glare on Kay, although he didn't dare actually poke the guy, "You pretend to be nice to sometimes! Which is weird. I think you're plotting something. I'm keeping an eye on you."
He was totally hamming this up for the people still in the med bay. He didn't actually mind sweeping cookie crumbs at all.

Asher tried to not laugh out loud at all this.

Kay just stared at him, baffled by all this. Wth James? wth?

"I think you're freaking them out," Asher told James mildly.

James snorted, but dropped the act. "Man, you guys have no sense of humor."

"No, they're just not used to your particular brand of humor," Asher said, smiling.

"I'm still funny, right?" the younger android asked.

Asher nodded sagely. "You've improved with age and experience." He looked at Kay, "He used to do that when we cleaned our rooms. So melodramatic about folding socks."

[You fold you socks?] Kay looked bemused. [My brothers and I always just rolled them into balls and rammed them into drawers. Then again, Matt usually got stuck on laundry duty. He hates laundry. ] He smiled softly but still looked stern. [If I find any wayward crumbs i'm dragging you back here to sweep everything again. ] He might have been joking, it was hard to tell.

"Asher and Lark are crazy about order and neatness," James said. "Especially Lark. Asher just looks sad at you, but Lark glares at you until you make sure your clothes are folded neatly."

Asher shrugged. "Tidiness is important."

James waved a hand dismissively. "If you cared so much, you could have folded my socks!" He eyed Kay suspiciously, "No dropping crumbs on the floor as an excuse to bring me back. I have a photographic memory! I'll notice, don't think I won't."

Kay smirked at the remark about crumbs. [Nothing wrong with order and neatness, makes it easier to find things. ] He shook his head. [Something my eldest brother could really do with learning. He's a throw stuff on the floor and assume it'll magically tidy itself sort of guy. It never worked. I still don't know how he ever found anything.]

"You don't need neatness when you have room for everything like he does," Asher pointed out. He smiled fondly, remembering the contents of Matt's pockets, when he had bailed him out of jail. "Of course, not all of us have huge amounts of space at our disposal at all times."

"So jealous," James said, sweeping the floor busily.

[It would make it a lot easier to find stuff in an emergency though. ] Kay reasoned. [I've sat and waited a good 30 to 40 minutes for the two of those idiots to locate whatever they're looking for in that mess. ] He shook his head. [i've never been entirely sure if it's the same pocket realm they both access or they have their own individual vast cavern of junk at their disposal. Either way, if one of them disappears the keys, you aren't getting inside in a hurry.]

Asher laughed. "I suppose you're right. You hear that, James? Being tidy and organized is always good."

"Wait, does Web steal things too?" James asked with interest.

Kay shook his head. [Not intentionally no, he picks things up but he doesn't seem to have the same kleptomaniac streak Matt has. Most of the time he picks up junk like pencils and bottlecaps and little bits of paper, while Matt will literally take anything that's not nailed down. If you're looking for odd socks, Web probably has them. If you're wondering what happened to your wallet, it'll be Matt.] He smiled fondly. Yeah his brothers were annoying, but he still loved them.

James laughed. "Poor Matt, nobody trusts him. He must be so sad!" He finished sweeping cookie crumbs and threw them out. "Does the floor meet your approval, o great medic A Team?"
