Upon Silver Devil: Chapter One

You would notice the smaller ship among the giants, docked to the space port it was in search of new crew members after the last few... left suddenly.

He shrugged. "Such is the nature of war. The universe is a harsh and unforgiving place, life isn't fair and there's always someone who wants you dead or miserable. Get over it."

She shrugged, "Hey your the one that asked."

"What can I say, it's a long trip and there's not much else to do. " He put his feet up on the console and pulled a glove off, picking at his nails again with one of his knives. "Besides which, there's more to you than you're letting on. It's.. mildly intriguing. "

She sighed, "What not?" The avian snorted.

"you my dear" He pointed the knife at her casually. "Are a powerhouse of energy, that's not normal."

"And not all species are the same." She said in defense.

He didn't look like he believed her. "Fine, keep lying to me. It'll come out eventually."

"I'm a vessel among my kind." She sighed, "That all, DNA test me I will come up pure avian."

"A vessel?" Okay now he was a little more curious.

"I have the ability to harbor our god for periods of time when she has to speak through one of us instead of come in person." She explained. "But you have to be a power house to handle doing it without becoming fried."

A sort of half smirk crossed his face. "Does it hurt you?" He studied her critically.

"No, just annoying since you are in your body but can't do shit since someone else is driving."

"you have a kinder god then some then." He shrugged. "So, where's your goddess now? No smiting? I'm a little disappointed."

"She...missing." Silv said softly.

"missing? or dead?" He shrugged and went back to picking his nails. "Maybe she just lost interest."

She sighed, "Either way my people are lost without her."

"can't be a very productive society then, relying on some goddess to direct their lives."

"She what kept the two sides going to war with each other...there is more to our people then you think."

He looked skeptical. "Any society that relies on some god to keep them from ripping one another's throats out is a pretty shit society. Have they ever considered just not being stupid?"

"There more cultural issues going on." She sighed ,"Different views ands so forth..we were talking it out for a while."

"Yet you needed a goddess to mediate. Pathetic." He put his knife away.

She rolled her eyes figuring it was useless to speak to him.

Suddenly, Esk's radar would pick up on something big... Very big... Before it vanished as it became cloaked...

He studied the radar, frowning. "I think we're being followed. And it's not your friends." He tapped keys, raising the shields and readying the weapons. The small ship couldn't really fight anything large firepower wise, but it was fast, agile and well shielded, he just had to hope that was enough.
Damn, they were gone. And not knowing who or what was after them just made this even more tense.

"Buckle in girls, this could get interesting."

"Great.." Silv said dryly,wishing she was armed.

Dawn blinked and looked at the two then at the seat, buckling up quietly. "Um...would now be a bad time to mention that I took the guns off the shuttle?"

Esk sighed. "Because of COURSE you did." He did a quick mental calculation of what they had on them. It wasn't looking great. "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, right now just hope we can outrun them." He focused on doing just that.
