Upon Silver Devil: Chapter One

You would notice the smaller ship among the giants, docked to the space port it was in search of new crew members after the last few... left suddenly.

"Yeah, i'll figure that one out. " He sighed and turned to face her. "Why you so worried about me?"

Silv silently dug through the kitchen, trying to see what was all there before she tried cooking.

Dawn shrugged and looked away from him when he looked to her "You are the pilot of this ship, Right now, our lives are in your hands."

There wasn't a heck of a lot, it was mostly packaged stuff for quick easy fixes. Clearly the crew of this ship didn't really care about stuff like food, it was fuel to get through the day.

Esk snorted. "mm hmm. Tell me kid, how you enjoying your first adventure out in the big wide universe? Is it everything you hoped for?"

Silv let out this loud cuoo of annoyance as she tried to make something edible with what she had.

"I..." Dawn started then stopped and frowned at him "How do you know I haven't been anywhere before this?"

He laughed scornfully. "You're inexperience shows kid, you stink of it." Who was he calling kid? He couldn't have been much older than her!

Dawn folded her arms, glaring again "I am not a kid"

Esk just snickered. "Oh course not.. You didn't answer my question. How you enjoying yourself? Wishing you'd stayed at home yet?"

"No" Dawn said then sighed and looked around the shuttle from where she sat "I couldn't stay home"

"ahh, here comes the full story. Save the waterworks honey, I really don't care what daddy did to you or how awful your childhood was or whatever."

Dawn flicked her gaze back to him and used her ability to send a small thing at him "Daddy did nothing but love me as a father should. You do not have any right to belittle what you don't know anything about and my past is one of those things."

In time Silv would come back with three plates of food, giving one to each she sighed, "No wonder your bitter your food supply is shit."

He ignored her and turned back to his console.

He took the food from Silv and eyed it suspiciously. "Most of my crew were ex military, food wasn't exactly a high priority. "

Dawn calmed down to take the plate from Silv "Thank you"

"And so am I but i like the thought of not poisoning my men." She retorted. "Gotta have some way to keep moral up."

Esk eyed Silv suspiciously. He wasn't convinced she wasn't trying to poison him to be honest. He set the food to one side. "Rations don't poison people." He muttered.

"I can argue that statement." She said softly.

Dawn silently listened to the two as she ate her food

He watched the two of them warily. "I thought you were a priestess not a soldier."

"I was a priestess." She corrected, "But war came to my people and it the priesthood who takes arm before the people because that is our duty."

"And now you're a petty criminal with a bounty on your head. Isn't life funny." He spoke flatly.

She shrugged, "I came from tribal background and was on the loosing size of the war. I have no home to return to due to new laws put in place among the winning side that makes it impossible for my people to make a healthy living so this has to do."

"mm, the victors always do that. Did they round you all up and shove you on a reservation too?" He still sounded bored.

"No, too much bad PR as it is with the prison camps." She slightly wince at those memories.

He shrugged. "Such is the nature of war. The universe is a harsh and unforgiving place, life isn't fair and there's always someone who wants you dead or miserable. Get over it."
