Upon Vestia: Chapter Twenty-Four

Dawn chuckled and shook her head a little "I don't need a party." She said softly, chuckling.

Skye looked to the door then came over to open it "Mourn? What's up?"

"You will still need parts even after you are free" Dawn pointed out then shrugged a little.

Skye chuckled softly at his apologizing for being hurt. "Not your fault Amity"

"Now that isn't entirely true Miss Skye. I did provoke the soldiers into shooting me down." Amity told her cheerfully.

Mourn plugged the cable in and got text up on the computer as well as a few readouts. He frowned, trying to work out why things weren't all working as they should.
Loose connections maybe?

"We open again, tighten everything, double check wires. Fix fans." He demanded.

"As you wish." Amity replied. "Would you like me to shut down now?"

"We all did that" Skye said cheerfully then looked to the readouts on the screen.

"Worth it," James said with a grin. "I'll alienate all the MegaBrainTech guys if I can." He looked at Dawn, "But seriously, you must have a plan, right?"

Asher nodded. "Yes, please shut down again, Amity, we'll see what we can do."

Dawn sighed and shook her head "No, I have no plans. I don't know what to do."

amity did as he was told, the drone hummed and fell silent.

Mourn looked at it, then at the screen. yep, it was off.
He unplugged the cable and started opening it up again.

"Get fans work. .. " he nodded, examining the connections carefully as he took the casing off.

"Do you want to have plans? Or are you like, cool with no plans?" James asked, puzzled.

Asher tried to see what Mourn was doing. "Maybe we reversed the order of the wires?" He suggested uncertainly.

Mourn's optic clicked as he zoomed in, holding the drone a little unsteadily in his robotic arm he prodded at the wires with a claw. He was concentrating too much to notice Asher was talking.

He frowned, this was so complicated. Wiring up fans SHOULD be simple.

He looked up. "Solderer." He demanded, making a gabby hand motion and looking expectantly to the other two.

Asher tried to hide his amusement. Working on a project with a deaf guy could definitely have its challenges. He handed over the soldering tool.

Mourn took the soldering iron and unsoldered the wires, puzzling over them for a bit and reconnecting them. Hmmm...

He fiddled for a bit with the actual fans too, checking the bearings and the connection at that end as well, removed a component, replaced it with a different one and set the drone down.

"Board weird." he complained, pressing the on button again to see if the fans would actually start spinning this time.

"Aketi tech is pretty different from what I'm used to," Asher agreed. "Parts of it are similar to Terran tech, but a lot of my knowledge doesn't apply here." He watched Amity hopefully.

The fans started to spin up. He looked happier that he'd fixed it.
He glanced to Asher. "Now just got to align projector mirrors." He nodded.
"Shut down." he told the drone, who had started to rise clumsily from the desk. It floated back down, the fans spinning down as it went silent again.

Mourn picked it up once the fans had stopped and thrust it toward Asher. "You got two hand, can fix."

Asher nodded and got to work. He didn't know a lot about how to make projectors work right, but with Mourn's guidance and his steady hands, they'd manage it.

Mourn honestly didn't know much about projectors either, but he was arrogant enough to pretend like he did. He bossed Asher around.

Asher finally finished soldering everything. "Okay, let's try again," he said.

Mourn nodded, taking the drone, putting it on the desk and booting it up again.

The fans spun up and the drone slowly rose till it was as high as it could get without hitting something.
The projector started up, the light came on and a very blurry green shape appeared.
Slowly the drone tried to compensate, bringing the image into focus.

Mourn clapped his hands excitedly. "we fix! WE FIX!"

Amity's image flickered and rippled unsteadily.
The hologram smiled. "Thank you, all of you."

Dawn shrugged again and frowned at the post they were working on now "I don't know. I have met the only plans I had, I don't know what to do now."

Asher smiled. "Welcome back, Amity. It's good to see you again."

"There are lots of things to do," James said. "Find places you want to go, things you want to buy, make a bucket list..." He waved a hand vaguely, "There are so many opportunities."

"Good to see you again" Skye said with a smile.

"Yeah, I know, I know, there's just so much to pick from" Dawn said with a shrug.

"Maybe you should search the internet for ideas, and roll dice to decide what you like best," James suggested.

"Roll dice?" Dawn asked with a chuckle. "That is one way to pick I suppose."

"Nothing like using cubes with numbers to decide your life plans," James said sagely. "You know, you could also ask Esk out, or try sushi, or whatever it is Pandorans your age do."

"Ask Esk out?" Dawn asked, looking at him again then looking to what she was doing again. Oh boy. They weren't really dating or anything like that. "I don't know what Pandorans my age do, not really"

"It's just a suggestion. I know you guys are probably sick of hearing it, I probably shouldn't have mentioned it," James said. "You should find out what Pandorans your age do. Maybe they do something cool and traditional. Androids my age just work and hate their lives, but being Pandoran doesn't suck, right?" He helped with the fence.

Amity's image continued to flicker, he nodded. "Thank you." He didn't really seem to know what to say.

Mourn grinned and clapped Asher on the back hard. "Hologram fix!" well, mostly fixed. The projector seemed to be having some issues but he had no clue how to fix that. It'd do till they could find an expert he could coerce into helping.

"What is it you wish of me now?" Amity asked. "Is the professor alright?"

Asher smiled at Mourn. "Very well done. And it wouldn't have gone nearly as well without Skye's hairdryer." He looked at Amity, "Hewitt will probably be happy to see you. I think he's missed you a lot, even if he doesn't really say so."

Amity chuckled. "Yes, the Professor is rather unreasonably sentimental."

Mourn snorted.
