Upon Vestia: Chapter Twenty-Four

Dawn chuckled and shook her head a little "I don't need a party." She said softly, chuckling.

Skye looked to the door then came over to open it "Mourn? What's up?"

"You did something pretty neat, I'm sure everyone would like to celebrate," James said.

Asher smiled when Skye came out. He thought she looked a bit troubled unhappy, hmm. "Hello! You don't happen to have a hair dryer, do you?" He asked.

Dawn chuckled and shrugged "I don't know"

Skye chuckled and nodded "Of course i do, we have to keep our feathers dry after all" She said, turning to go grab one from the bathroom. "What are you working on?"

"You don't think they'd jump at the chance for a party?" James asked. "Cause they would. They so would." He smiled at her. "Anyway, I take it you aren't so crazy about parties, huh?"

Dawn shrugged and chuckled again "Parties are fine, it's the being the center of attention that is the not so crazy part."

"Aww. Okay." James thought for a bit, then brightened, "We could have a Leaving the Guild celebration, and also kinda sorta celebrate you graduating."

Dawn chuckled and nodded "If you want to, then go ahead." She said with a shrug. She was glad he cared enough to want to celebrate her accomplishment.

Mourn waited impatiently for the hairdryer. "Try fix hologram, need heat." He told her. "Robot help."

Asher nodded. "We thought a hairdryer would be the best way to soften the adhesive they used on Amity. Of course direct heat would be dangerous, but a diffused source might work well."

"I totally will," James said. "It'll be awesome."

Skye came back in the room and handed off the hairdryer to Mourn "I hope it works."

Dawn chuckled again and nodded "I bet it will."

"Thank you," Asher said, smiling warmly.

"So, uh.. " James looked at the fences that still needed to be put up. "Normally I don't offer to be useful, but want any help?"

Skye returned his smile then looked to Mourn and back "It'll be good to be back together with the others."

Dawn smiled and nodded "Yes, please. It'll go faster with help."

Mourn tilted his head. "Take months, long way." He told her matter of factly. Tact and sympathy were two things he did not have. He took the hairdryer. "We fix hologram now. "

"Would you like to join us?" Asher asked Skye gently.

"Okay, show me what to do and I'll help," James told Dawn cheerfully.

Skye smiled at that and nodded "Yeah, I would like that."

Dawn grinned and started showing him how to measure out the posts and get the fence up and in place.

Mourn bounded off back tohis room, not paying much attention to either Asher or Skye now.

Asher smiled at Skye. "Come on, let's go see if we can fix Amity." He followed Mourn at a more sedate pace.

James followed Dawn's instructions, and soon he was pretty useful at putting up the fence. He might be lazy, but he was pretty good at following instructions after years at the space station. As long as he didn't put too much weight on his damaged shoulder, he'd be fine.

Skye nodded and followed with Asher back to Mourn's room.

The fences weren't heavy, just a bit cumbersome, especially when they got to the cross pieces and putting them up. Now the screen for the bees would be heavier, but they weren't to that part yet.

Mourn got to work burrowing around through the junk that littered his floor to find a socket to plug the hairdryer into.

Asher went to get the piece of Amity's case that had the motherboard in it. "This should be safer than just sanding the case off," he said thoughtfully. "Since Amity is shut off, he shouldn't suffer any overheating damage."

James went easy on his bad arm, taking most of the weight on his good one. He was remembering to be careful, for now at least.

Skye nodded and tilted her head a little "The low setting will only get so hot before it just blows air for a while. It's safe enough to use on our feathers."

Dawn kept looking to him as they worked. "Your arm still hurt?" She asked after a while

James smiled slightly. "Well there's no pain of course, but Mourn hasn't been able to fix it really well, so it keeps breaking when I use it too much. It's kinda inconvenient, but not a huge problem."

Dawn frowned a little at that and stopped to face him "Have you asked if they have any replacement parts here?"

Mourn found a socket and held up the hair dryer victoriously. "Hold!" he instructed Asher to hold the part while he turned the dryer on and blew it against his own face to test the heat. His robotic arm couldn't feel heat after all.
He fiddled with the heat for a bit, then satisfied, aimed it at the chassis

"I tried asking around, but the Guild doesn't stock android parts. There are only three, well, two now, androids here after all," James said. "It's cool, it's not that big a problem anyway. Mourn just keeps welding me back together."

Asher held the part steady so Mourn could heat it. He tested the warmth of the plastic periodically to see how warm it was getting, and after a bit he asked Mourn to pause while he tried ever so gently to see if he could pry the board up.
