Upon Silver Devil: Chapter Four

Dawn would be alright, she just got bored laying there alone and without a project to do.

"That sounds good," Asher agreed. He smiled softly, "I downloaded a few movies for the trip, do you have any too? Or of course there are some good board games that we could try on a tablet."

Esk snorted, bemused by how scared of him Moriah was. After all, if she so desired she could flatten him into a wall with one hand.

Mourn stood up too. "I eat!" He declared. he had some tins of tuna in his bag.

Esk rolled his eyes, wierdo.

"I do, I had quite a few downloaded for when i wasn't able to move anywhere." Dawn said with a wry smile. Now they wouldn't be able to go far because of being on the Devil instead of injury really.

Moriah was about to hurry off, but she didn't know where Dawn's room was. She asked Tala, Tala told her.

Then Moriah hurried off.

Tala snorted. "Androids are amusing," she told Esk. She looked to Mourn, "I sometimes wish I could join you in your carnivorous meals, you make them sound most pleasing."

Asher chuckled. "Well I'm grateful your collection is good, even if the reason was unfortunate," he told her. "It's nice to have a good selection of movies, then you can debate the merits of them for hours before you actually get around to watching one." He was probably joking.

Dawn chuckled and shrugged "I haven't tried debating them before." She admitted

"James and Lark used to do that sometimes, they were always pretty opinionated," Asher said. "They'd debate over all sorts of stuff, like which movie had a better ending, or which movie had the most gratuitous contrived romance. I usually stuck to the basics, like which one was most likely to have a good car chase, or which actor was cuter." He nodded sagely. Apparently being stuck in a cargo bay made him talkative, huh.

"The shit he eats certainly doesn't SMELL pleasing." Esk complained.

Mourn grinned and took his laptop with him.

Esk watched, kinda curious how he'd climb ladders holding a bulky laptop. It was about as awkward as he'd expected.

"Androids are weird." He told Tala. "Like everyone else."

Dawn laughed softly and nodded "That sounds like friendly banter about the movies beforehand. It is a good idea I think."

Tala snorted. "True enough. I do not understand most of these odd folk, they are often oddly emotional. Or simply confusing," she added, thinking of Mourn.

Asher nodded. "Gotta figure out what everyone wants before choosing something." He switched on his tablet and scrolled through some movies. "Oh, that actor's good," he said, pointing to one guy on a movie poster. "I remember him from The Shapeshifting Spaceship Girl, that movie was a masterpiece."

Dawn came closer to look at the picture that was pulled up. "I saw him in another movie, but I haven't see The Shapeshifting Spaceship Girl. He is a good actor."

Esk nodded. "That's people for you. Everyone's fucking nuts in some way or other and some don't even try to hide it. " He shrugged. He didn't really find most people that confusing, some elements of their lives sure, like emotions and affection and all that, but people, usually, he could read. Except Dawn, and to a lesser extent Rigel. Their tendency to mask their emotions and bury everything made them extremely difficult to get a handle on. It both frustrated and fascinated Esk. It was novel, but it was also strange and unsettling. Particularly the way Dawn made him feel, which was extremely alien and baffling.
He shook his head. "At least this crew are mostly functional."

"Which one was it, do you remember? Spaceship Girl was fun, but very, very b-movie-ish," Asher said. He scrolled a little more. "Not that b-movies are a bad thing, of course."

Tala nodded. "As long as they follow orders in a battle, they can be as silly and emotional as they want. I am not captain here, Rigel gets to decide if he thinks they are too silly."

Esk snorted. "And you get to escort them to the brig." He had first hand experience of said brig too, it wasn't exactly a comfortable place.

"That is one of life's simple pleasures," Tala declared. "The subduing of a worthy opponent, and their imprisonment until justice prevails or they see the error of their ways." She nodded. She liked a little violence,

Esk snickered. "You're an easy woman to please then." He remarked dryly.

Tala flicked her ears. "Not so easy. There is not always someone on hand to smite when one desires a fight. Such is life."

"Not right now' Dawn relied and shrugged "I have seen so many recently."

"Maybe we should find a game to play then, if you've already watched so many movies that they blur together," Asher said. He looked amused.

Dawn chuckled and dipped her head then shrugged "That week I fell asleep during most of them." She said with a shrug "It would probably be better to watch them now that I am better."

Asher smiled at Dawn. "It's up to you then. Games and movies both sound good to me."

Esk shook his head. "You're an interesting woman Tala." He shrugged. "Just try not to start any fights on mars."

Dawn thought about it then shrugged. "Games for the moment sounds good, we can watch movies later."

"I do not pick fights to improve my mood, that would be stupid," Tala said. It was true, she might love a good fight as much as the next bloodthirsty cow lady, but she usually tried to avoid escalating things unless she had a good reason. The big picture was more important than a temporary mood boost.

Asher nodded. "All right. Do you have any games from your homeworld you like?" he asked curiously. "Or we can always pick one of the classic Terran games or something."

"good." Esk replied simply.

Tala smiled, showing off her single row of front teeth. "This is a ship of sensible people like you and I," she declared. "It is satisfactory." She turned to head for the dining room, she was hungry.

"I think a classic Terran game would be simpler, most of the ones from my homeworld are in using your powers." Dawn said with a smile

Asher laughed. "You're right, that wouldn't work well. I'd be at a rather severe disadvantage in any game involving elemental powers. Do you like chess? I'm always partial to chess, although I've been on a bit of a losing streak lately." Hewitt and his centuries of experience were pretty hard to beat.
