She chuckled, "It is, trust me I been there." Softly her face faltered before returning back to normal. "anyway... i uh have no clue what else to ask." Thaila said sheepishly.

"Usually they are killed, as quickly and with as little pain as is possible" Sawna said sadly "At least when a Carpathian does it. There is a little fact that the souless have greater strength and speed even than we do as Carpathians. So ending their suffering is not an easy task."

Armin nodded slowly. "it would seem, one who elects to do it, knowing the risks, do not consider it suffering." If you really wanted out of a situation, there were other options rather than giving up your soul surely? "I am glad they are rare."

"I see," said Ethan thoughtfully. "It's always seemed strange to me how people can become so attached to a place or an idea, even when that place or idea directly conflicts with their own well-being. One of my masters had relationship like that, his lover was so trapped in his own guilt and love, love that mostly came from memories of before my master became a complete monster, that he could never leave or fight back, no matter how many times my master hurt him. He never could escape, my master was far too clever to give him the opportunity. I hated the guy, probably in part because my master liked to give us reasons to hate each other, but in hindsght I guess I understand him a lot better, and why he was the way he was.
"It seems so obvious to outsiders that the right choice is to run away and never look back, but I guess when you're actually stuck in the middle of the situation, you're blinded and trapped, and you get used to holding onto what little good there is, or was, there, and listening to the people who are telling them to stay." He smiled oddly, "And your Elders must be very good at keeping control at this point, if they've had so long to practice. Still, maybe patient guidance works better than just yelling at the trapped people that they're stupid and delusional, in which case maybe you'll succeed where your father didn't, I don't know."

"I do hope so." Web smiled sadly. "I'm sorry to hear about your old master. I hope things are better for you now. " He looked at Ethan sadly. "People are... very strange. They do things that often don't make any sense at all, or react in ways you couldn't have predicted. I fear that even with my gifts of prophesy and empathy, there will always be times I get it wrong." He looked a little pained.

Ethan smiled his odd smile. "Things are actually going pretty well for me lately. It's not easy to move on, but at least I can try to move on now, which is a hell of a lot more than I had before.
"Prophesy and empathy? Well at least you have a bit more help to get things right than most of us do. Maybe you won't fuck up too often." Yeah, knowing how difficult people were, Ethan was pretty sure Web was right to worry. Even with prophetic abilities.

Web nodded. "One can but hope. I'm relieved to hear things are looking up. Your brothers , they're supporting you?" Adopted brothers were still brothers as far as he was concerned.

Sawna nodded then shrugged "We do not know much about them, despite our tests, they do not seem to have feelings as we do. I am equally glad they are rare."

Armin nodded. "There are, in many cultures, people who seem to be born just... wrong. Already tainted. It is a great tragedy."

Sawna nodded then sighed "Yes, those few who are easier to lose to the darkness. We have some as well, though thankfully very, very few."

"To shift the topic to something less... sombre. May I inquire how your cafe business is doing? " Armin diverted the topic, away from depressing things.

"Yes, they're both decent people. Asher and I had some... problems at first, but we're all right now. My other brother, James, is moody and hotheaded, but he's also loyal and capable of surprising moments of kindness," Ethan chuckled.

Web smiled softly. "Sounds rather like my siblings. They drive you mad, but eventually you wouldn't have it any other way."

Sawna smiled at the change in topic and nodded "Yes, it is going very well already. I do enjoy it too. "

"Hopefully they don't turn out to be evil after all," Ethan was joking. "I'd like to have some siblings I can trust even if they are thoroughly annoying too."

Web chuckled. "Annoying I believe goes with the territory i'm afraid. Brothers are made to be annoying." He shook his head. "I haven't met James I don't think, but Asher seemed very nice. I trust my brother's judgement and if Kay's chosen him then he must be a good man."

"You'll have to meet James sometime. He's... entertaining, " said Ethan. He couldn't help making an odd face at Web's logic, yeah, using Kay as a measure of someone's merit was weird to him. "Well Asher hasn't ever acted sadistic, as far as I know, so things look promising."

Web frowned. "You've become too accustomed to people being cruel haven't you?" Damn he felt sorry for the guy, robot... whatever.

Ethan shrugged. "It's a hard habit to break. You don't even know if you want to break it half the time, because if they are going to be shitty to you, you want to not be taken by surprise." If there was any emotion behind the statement, it was hidden pretty darn well. He sounded like he was just stating a fact.

Armin bowed his head. "I am glad to hear that. I too am enjoying the extra space."

Web nodded grimly. "I understand. It's a way to protect yourself. "

"Easier to cope with nasty shit when you're not coping with the feeling of being betrayed too," Ethan told Web. He looked around, feeling like changing the subject, "So was your brother planning to come back here at some point, or did he just ditch you?"

Web shrugged. "For all I know he and he fiance have disappeared off behind some tents." He laughed. "I'm not sure i'm quite prepared to launch a search party just in case. There's certain things you just never want to see."

Ethan snorted. "Maybe we'd better not investigate then." You never knew with organic couples. They were strange.

Web nodded. "If they're not back when the show starts again we'll start worrying. To be honest, Matt often wanders off. He hasn't got a very long attention span."

Ethan leaned back in his seat, sighing with satisfaction. The Guild sure did produce some comfortable furniture for their celebrations. "Well if they come back, tell Thalia she has to sit on Matt's lap. This is my seat now."

Web laughed. "seems fair, they did vacate them." Hey nobody told him to save seats.

Armin chuckled. "Precisely. I am certain my customers appreciate the space as well. It was getting a little awkward having to take things to people. most of the crew cannot breathe the same levels of oxygen saturation as I."
