Upon Vestia: Chapter Eighteen

(Starts on day six at the Guild of Scribes.)

Dawn frowned and thought about that then shook her head a little "I don't know, it sounds like something you would do if you wanted an army or something." Yeah, training those not born to magic just didn't sound right to her, but then, she had been born to it.

Ellie smiled at Sawna. "Hey there Sawna! Nice to see you again!"

Tala set to work cooking things in a pan. She liked actually cooking her own food.

"Hello Ellie" Sawna said, coming to stand in the doorway so she could see Ellie and Tala. "The dragon babies seem to like you."

Esk shrugged. He never trusted anyone. "Well there is a war coming, maybe when the family come knocking we'll want magic wielding androids. I dunno." He fiddled with the stack of paper on the desk. "Probably a more practical option than the apparent attempts to populate their own small village the people on this ship seem to have going on. There are way too many kids around here now. "

"I guess they do!" Ellie agreed happily. She tried to eat her breakfast with her good hand while awkwardly petting the babies with her bad hand. "Maybe someone should pry them off me so they won't, like, imprint on me too or something." She giggled.

Dawn thought about that then sighed and shrugged "Maybe." She said then looked to him as he talked about babies. "There's almost as many children as adults here."

Shane chuckled and took Kerr again, settling him on his shoulder and petting him

"They can't imprint on you, though they can 'claim' you as family" Starr said with a chuckle.

"Good, I love these guys, but I don't wanna be a mom," Ellie said. She lightly scratched Vela's chin. "Yo Sawna, want a baby?"

Sawna snorted, almost choking on her drink at that question. Oh my. She chuckled and caught her breath before tossing her now empty cup and coming over to the table "You think they would let me?" She hesitated before sitting on the other side of Ellie and gently holding a hand out to the baby dragon.

Vela sniffed at Sawna, she smelled different than everyone else. A quick look to Starr confirmed that she was okay with this, so she moved, going to the new hand to let her give pettings.

Ellie laughed. "They don't care what you drink, they just want friends! Look at these guys, they love people!" She watched Vela go over to Sawna, "See? She likes you too!"

Esk nodded. "I'm starting to think my brother's right, we should start lacing the water supply with contraceptives."

Kay went to get breakfast, nodding in greeting to everyone. Yeesh, lots of people still this morning.

Ellie looked up at Kay and forced herself to act normal, to wave and be friendly. But inside she was really really really excited to see if Danika was really imprinted on this guy oh my gosh.

Sawna smiled and brought Vela close to pet her gently. She looked to Kay and smiled, "Good morning Kay"

Danika woke from her doze, looking up and squeaking at Kay before trying to get up to go to him.

Dawn chuckled and shook her head "No, that can have unexpected downsides, like making depression worse." She disagreed Nope, contraceptives in the entire water supply was not a good idea.

Esk shrugged. "The Imperium just dish out condoms and IUDs. Seems to work, I mean teen pregnancy rates are way down since they included long term contraceptives in the standard medical." He picked up James' sign and smirked at it. "This is how he spends his time huh?"

Kay nodded to Sawna and tried not to smile at Danika's squeaking. He came over and put his hand out so she could climb into it.
Good morning little one. He looked to Starr. How did you sleep? He tried very hard to ignore the high pitched whining sound coming from Ellie's mind. It was pretty damn distracting though.

Dawn nodded then shrugged a little "Well, that is a possibility, but it is also a known thing. There are a lot of different species here and no one solution would work for all of them." Dawn said then looked to the sign and nodded then motioned to the badge James had made "Yeah, he makes signs and nametags." She said and chuckled softly

Danika immediately climbed onto his hand and started rubbing her head against him lovingly.

Starr chuckled softly "I slept well, all three were pretty tired after their baths, so they slept for a while."

"Oh my gosh that's so cute," Ellie whispered. Her mind screamed, HE'S SO NICE TO HER AND SHE LOVES HIM EVEN THOUGH HE'S USUALLY SO GRUMPY AHHHH.

Esk looked at the badge. "Couldn't think of anything snarky to call you huh?" Come to think of it, he couldn't really either. "And you're right, they'd just adopt random orphans anyway. You can't stop these guys and their damn sentimental need to save all the cute helpless things." He rolled his eyes. "At this rate, I don't think any of Vestia's crew are gonna leave this place." He looked grim, staying here indefinitely didn't appeal much. But at the same time, going out there without any real defense was suicide. Eugh plans, he hated plans.

Kay petted Danika's head softly and held her so she could crawl onto his shoulder. He had breakfast to eat, so he needed his hands free. He winced at Ellie's mind and shot her a withering look.

"I only whispered!" Ellie protested. She knew what Kay's look meant though, and tried to quiet her mind for his sake. She wasn't trying to make him uncomfortable after all.

Dawn chuckled again "James made name tags using the names Mourn calls each of us, but he didn't know what Mourn calls me so I got 'nice medic'" She explained then frowned a little "Yeah, I'm beginning to think we may not leave here either."

Danika moved to his shoulder, hanging on as she settled there so he could walk. She was happy here, but even she looked to Ellie at her yelling, as did both the other two baby dragons, squeaking at her.

"Why Mourn's names?" Esk asked curiously. He shook his head. "Well, our captain might decide to leave these idiots to play families. Problem is, much as this place is annoying as hell, it's worse out there. I dunno, plans aren't something i'm good at. Whatever happens, i'll follow my orders right?" Didn't mean he wouldn't bitch about it though.

Kay nodded to Ellie and looked grateful. He went to get food.

"So he could call Asher "robot" mostly" Dawn replied and chuckled then shrugged "Yeah, I'm not entirely sure Acus can 'lead' right now anyway. I haven't seen him in a while"

Esk shook his head. "He's around, being his usual antisocial dick self. I just don't think he really likes this ship. Probably too many girls right?" He snorted. Acus' dislike for women was stupid. "And babies."

Ellie tried focusing on eating and listening to the babies to quiet her mind. Mean, grumpy Kay with his tiny dragon was still really, really adorable though. Eeeee.

Dawn smiled at that then shrugged a little "He did hire us" She pointed out. If he hadn't wanted girls on his crew, he would have hired males, but there were a lot of babies on Vestia.

Danika looked to Kay and settled again on his shoulder, watching the area as he got his food.

Vela and Kerr squeaked at Ellie again, tilting their heads at her. They still heard the Eee from her and were curious though they stayed with the ones petting each of them

Esk snickered. "Yes, that would have been logical but logic, sense and rational behavior don't seem to be our captain's strong points. " he pointed out. "Still, it's about the only reason I think he's not thrown me out the airlock already. "He shook his head. "He finally offered me an official job, so either he's finally completely lost his mind, or he's decided to stop holding a grudge." He hestiated. "That or he's trying to trick me. " He shrugged again.

Kay sat down with breakfast and a mug of coffee and set his tablet on the table so he could write one handed.
[Having fun Ellie?] He smirked. She looked so delighted.

Ellie laughed. "Heck yeah! Look at them, Kay! They're the friendliest nicest babies ever!" She waved at Vela and Kerr cheerfully.

"Oh, what job?" Dawn asked with interest. Yeah, it wasn't exactly nice to talk about Acus when he wasn't there to defend himself.
