Upon Vestia: Chapter Sixteen

"All those aliens, always hyping up how great they are, and it always turns out to be a lie," James said sagely. "I'm not like that though, I mean I've been known to punch minotaurs. I'd be a proper villain, I wouldn't lose."
He watched as the guy went back into the train, "Ooooh nooooo. They so should not have done that. It is ON!"

Luka nodded. "sure, let's see this pumpkin carriage and magic aunt."

[While there's every chance you three are immune, i'm not convinced it's worth taking the risk. And knowing our luck, that damn thing will find a way to be nearby. Things like that always do.] Kay huffed. [Hopefully they'll find it soon.] He glanced up at Vestia's camera [Any news yet?]

James happily went looking for a copy of the movie for them to see. The original Disney one of course, the other hundred Disney remakes weren't nearly as good. Mostly. There were a few he had decided to see, and enjoyed, but they usually messed with the story a lot.
"It's amazing, there are talking mice and there's an evil cat," he explained, "Which you can tell is evil because it's drawn evil, so that isn't a spoiler."

Asher nodded. The one in this room who was definitely susceptible, was also one of the people on this ship who most desperately needed to stay away from reminders of his deepest regrets."Sadly, we're all stuck here together and we don't really have any other options," he said. "Sorry guys."

Orel looked disappointed.

"No news yet," Vestia said.

Orel looked more disappointed. "We could risk it, Skye," he said.

Luka looked bewildered. "drawn evil? What does it have angry eyebrows or something?"
She went to find some snacks and settled down to watch this.

[Technically we have no real right to stop you if you want to go, you aren't a member of our crew so you're not our problem. However, I am a medic which means I have your best interests at heart. I don't want anyone hurt, we've all had quite enough of that. And that extends to guests.] Kay frowned, this guild was supposed to be safe, it didn't really seem to be. Then again, they only really had Vanessa and Third's word for that and how reliable were those two's judgement really? hmm.

Skye frowned a little and looked at Kay. "But what about his family? What if they don't know about this yet?" She asked with concern.

[I would hope an alert has gone around the entire city by now, they have peacekeepers on every corner it seems. Isn't this part of their job?] Kay reasoned, he looked a little worried though. How many of their own crew had gone for a wander out there? He shook his head [They would warn the population.] Right?

"It slinks around and has black fur and a sly face, which were signs of evil back then," James said. "The wicked stepmother looks evil too, wait til you see her."

Orel looked uncertain. "I probably don't need to warn my family, but it seems silly to stay here." Still, Kay was right, it was risky. Hmm.

[If you leave and walk straight into the path of this regret butterfly and it effects you, well, once we get you out of whatever catatonic state it throws you into, expect a lecture on patience.] Kay actually smiled, he was probably joking.

"I look forward to it." Luka nodded, munching on some bar snacks

Skye dipped her head, biting her lip lightly and looking down at the game to play a piece

Orel laughed. "You'll have to get in line behind my parents, then." He looked at Skye, "Or we can stay if you prefer," he said gently. She might not be into risks at all, she seemed so quiet.

Before long the stepsisters and stepmother were being mean to Cinderella and making her do their laundry and stuff.

"See? She looks like a jerk, and so does her cat," James said.

"Very likely that butterfly can't hurt us." Skye said and looked to Orel again. Yeah, she wanted to have time with him and fly again.

"Man this cinderella girl is such a pushover. She should push that old woman down the stairs." Luka insisted.

Kay nodded grimly. [you're probably right, but if you do see it, try not to look directly at it. Hopefully they've caught it already. ] He exhaled deeply. [They really don't seem overly good at stopping dangerous things escaping are they? but maybe they're too used to things not being a threat to them. What do they care if they're gored by a boar, they can magically heal right? A little butterfly? they probably have some magic thing to prevent that hurting them as well. ] He rolled his eyes. He was fed up of the constant stupid bloody peril.

"Maybe she's an android, and she physically can't," James said. He was protective of Cinderella, who would have guessed?

"We won't look at it," Orel said to Kay, "don't worry." He got up, "Come on Skye, let's go flying."

Asher smiled at the two. "If you get in trouble, come to me. I'm nicer than Kay."

"You threatened me," Orel pointed out.

"In a nice way," Asher reminded him.

Kay nodded [It's true, he's the good cop.] He smirked, but he did look just a teensy bit worried. They were right, being immune to magic they were probably safe, but what if they weren't?
He'd fret about this till they got told the stupid thing had been found damnit.
Gah.

Luka's eyes widened. "oh shit, maybe you're right. That'd make so much sense. Because if she's human she needs to grow a spine and kick a few bitches off balconies." Ahem..

Skye stood then nodded looked back to Kay again, frowning a little "Oh, what about something like a walkie talkie, you know, talk directly to you or Vestia, so you won't worry?" She didn't want him to be worried.

Kay considered that. Where was Swarm? He looked to asher [Do we have anything like that which would work over such a distance?] the asteroid was after all, not that close to the city. at all.

Orel pulled his phone out of his pocket. "This'll work if someone gives me a phone number, although ideally Skye should have a phone too," he said.

"Alternately she might be from a pacifist religion," James said, "but I prefer to imagine her as one of us."

Skye looked to Orel and smiled, yeah, a phone would work better and over a greater distance.

"That's cute." Luka nudged James shoulder affectionately. "Your love for this story now makes complete sense. She gets revenge right? tell me she gets revenge!"

Kay nodded, they had a phone somewhere around right? Matt had like 30 of the damn things on him, but where the heck was he? [Just try not to lose one another.] Kay suggested, giving Orel a stern look.
One of the two of them probably had a phone though, so that number would be given.

"Well she never stabs them or throws them off a tower, but she does get a nice happy life and they get to live in misery and loneliness and not have a servant any more," James said. "In one version, the wicked stepmother got to dance in red-hot iron shoes until she died, but that wasn't this version." He smiled, "A reasonably satisfying ending to the story, at least."

"We'll be careful," Orel said. Man, these guys were like Skye's adoptive parents or something. Which was weird because they didn't look that old.

Vestia gave him her phone number. Because part of her functions was being a phone. Yay.

Skye chuckled and went to Orel so they could go once he put the number in.

"danced to death in iron shoes? harsh." Luka stared at James. "Is this a common Terran story then?"

Horay Vestia! Kay looked up at her camera gratefully.

[Be careful.] He told the hawks, then as an afterthought added [Have fun] but not too much fun he thought. Skye was sensible right? it was just flying.
But teenagers man...

"We will" Skye said and smiled at Kay. Yeah, usually she was very sensible

"Oh, lots of cultures have variants of the Cinderella story. This one we're watching kind of eclipsed the others, but it was pretty popular all over the place in various forms." James grinned, "Some of the older versions are kind of nasty. And I think there was a live action version were she did learn martial arts and beat them up at the end, but that one's supposed to be terrible."

"But not too much fun," Asher said for Kay he looked amused.

Orel blushed and hurried off with Skye. Geez, they were SO like his parents!

Luka chuckled. "sounds quite satisfying though. Oh come on lady, no amount of makeup's gonna fix that face!" She was referring to the sisters.

Kay looked to Asher, amused and trying not to laugh at that. It helped ease the worry and frustration a bit anyway.

Skye hurried off with Orel, shaking her head at that. "They aren't usually like that."

"Yeah, it's probably full of sweet, sweet justice," James mused. "Aww, she can't help it if she's hideous. Be nice."

"And don't fly too high off the ground while the butterfly is on the loose!" Asher called after the hawks.

"What are they usually like?" Orel said, looking away from Skye so she wouldn't see him blushing.

Asher smiled softly at Kay when the hawks left. "Well this morning just keeps getting odder, doesn't it?"

"if they weren't awful people i'd let it slide, but they are so... " Luka snickered.

Kay rolled his eyes. [Odd is one way to put it. If anyone gets hurt because of the guild's insistence of keeping dangerous creatures and not training their keepers to properly contain them, I will not be happy.] He huffed. At least Vestia was safe... probably.
