The Guild Capitol: Chapter Two

"Now we can find something for kids." Dawn said and moved to look around the place.

The old guy gave a wheezing laugh. "I'm long retired youngling, but once upon a time I studied the stars themselves. " He looked wistful for a moment, then shook his head. "What do you know about Lithium polymer batteries?"

"Rechargeable batteries?" Skye said quietly and looked at the robot then back to the plant person again

"Were you an astrophysicist?" Orel asked. "Li-po batteries, hmm, depends how big you need them, but they are available around here."

The old man nodded and a waved a hand dismissively, as if that much was obvious. "yes yes, rechargeable. My companion here is almost out of battery and nothing we can find is safe to use to recharge, it's all too primitive." He sounded annoyed. "these guild people suggested magic, MAGIC? to recharge a battery? Oh yes, sure, let's just plug the advanced AI into a hamster wheel why don't we?"

The drone made a weird noise that sounded half like a laugh and half like a hiccup.

"The problem isn't finding the battery, it's finding a charger that's in any way compatible without causing more damage. I'm not engineer but even i'm not entirely convinced low battery is his only problem." The old guy looked to the drone and tutted.

"s.. sir.. we.. we really s... should find a w.. w.. way to ge.. get you.. home r.. rather than wa.. wasting ti time trying t.. t.. t... fix... "

"And I already told you I have no intention of being stranded alone in this forsaken place!" The old guy interrupted. "Don't get me wrong, they have been extremely accommodating, in their own way but." He sighed and looked to the hawks. "We don't have much time left."

"Mourn is an engineer" Skye said "He's a Felid from the ship I came here on. Maybe he can do something?"

"A felid?" The old guy looked skeptical. He muttered something under his breath. "Fine, i'm about desperate enough."

"you f... flatter m... me s.. ss.. ssir." the drone replied dryly.

The old man smiled grimly. "that stutter is getting extremely annoying. "

"I.. a.. a.. agree s.. ss. ssir."

Orel sighed at the mention of Mourn's name. "Okay, let's get you guys to Vestia." He looked at the AI, "You're an actual AI, huh? Not many of those around."

"y.. yes, we are assigned Host Amity, designation f... four.. zero... z.zzz zero... Four.. "

"Shush, you'll just wear yourself out faster." The old man snapped.

The drone fell silent.

Skye looked to Orel then reached for his hand so they could walk together. She didn't want to make him sad or anything, but when there was a problem like this, she thought of Mourn to fix it, though she wondered if he could.

Orel took Skye's hand shyly and walked with them toward Vestia.

Skye walked with him, frowning at the portal they would have to go through but making sure they didn't go to fast for the old plant person and robot.

The plant guy and the drone followed them, after all, as the old guy had said, they were desperate.

Orel braced himself for the groups feeling of the portal but went through without complaining.

Matt shrugged. "I suppose so. You're still totally allowed to tell some people they're being dicks though. Just, try not to really annoying super powerful beings uh.. " he hesitated. "Again... "

Mandeep couldn't help but release a hearty laugh at that, finding the sentence dryly amusing as he fell silent.

Matt grinned back, it was nice to hear the guy laugh. Reassuring really.

The headed to the archives. honestly Matt had no idea where Kasi might be but that kinda rude Swarm might still be about and may know. Worth a shot anyway.

Mandeep merely followed him to the Archive. As usual, the place was packed with studious individuals and writers as well as those going through interactive lessons.

"Man this place is crowded." Matt shook his head and looked around for any familiar faces. "if you see any tiny little insects, let me know okay?"

"Tiny insects? I suppose, but this seems like a good place to get crushed if you're not careful." Mandeep raised his eyebrows slightly, "Must be some agile little creatures..." He looked around with growing interest, however, and also seemed interested in the colorfully binded essays on the shelves.

Starr and the others were there with the babies, heading for the star dragon section of the library

Asher volunteered to carry the books. Unlike Kay and Starr, he didn't have any babies to keep his hands full. Besides, his arms didn't feel fatigue the way organics' did.

Matt spotted a familiar mop of red hair. "Oh hey, it's my little brother." He gestured to Mandeep. "Come on, let's go see what they're doing here." Hmm libraries, yes, that was somewhere he'd expect Kay to be. Boring, quiet, full of boring quiet people studying. Definitely a Kay place.

Mandeep looked incredulous for a moment, "B-Brother?" After a bit of hesitation, his gaze followed Matt's and he looked confused as he settled on the odd group heading towards the section on Draconic species, where mirror holograms of scaley winged reptiles flitted through the crystalline lights and inscribed pages. The wheelchair moved warily towards them.

Asher heard someone coming, and glanced over. "Oh hello Matt," he said warmly. He looked to Mandeep curiously.

Starr stopped and looked to Matt smiling at him when she saw him. Both the babies in her carrier were awake and had their heads poking over the top to look around, squeaking softly to one another and her.

"Yeah my family is crazy complicated. " Matt chuckled. "We're foster brothers, not.. actual brothers. But hey, you call someone bro for 20 odd years, they're as good as blood right?"

Kay looked up at the holograms, this archive was a strange place. Part museum, part library, like it couldn't quite decide.

Then he noticed Matt. He paused and tilted his head. What was he doing here? Libraries and museums were not places he could picture his brother.

Matt grinned. "Hey the baby dragons!" He waved to them. "hey little guys."

Kay continued to stare at him questioningly till matt finally explained

"Okay yeah so this is Mandeep, he's Kevali. We're trying to find the other one. "

Kay continued to look confused.

"Kalvair, called Kasi, he's about this big." Matt gestured. "dressed weird, never stops talking."

Starr chuckled at that "I met him, yesterday or the day before" She said, picking up the boy baby "They hatched, so we came to learn as much as we can about baby dragons"

"So it seems." Mandeep replied with a small chuckle at Matt's words, easing back a bit when everything was cleared up. After being introduced to everyone he made a common Kevali gesture of greetings and then bowed his head slightly, as if he had picked up another habit of greeting. He said nothing yet, though, and decided to draw his attention to the hatchlings with an almost amused glint to his eye, reminiscing about something.
