Good Cop Bad Cop: Chapter One

One week. Asher has to be mean, Kay has to be nice. Whoever gives up first has to write a story for the winner. Should be... interesting.

Dawn frowned then shrugged "The mind is a complicated thing, it doesn't surprise me that he made himself mute over some trauma."

Esk nodded. "Lycanthropy does nasty stuff to your sanity. " He looked sober for a moment, then waved a hand. "So seriously, WHY lemonade?"

Dawn giggled and looked to James "He saw it in a cartoon or something" She said then shrugged "And why not?"

Esk snorted. "because it's weird. What do you do if someone asks for some?"

Dawn looked to James for an answer to that question, she didn't know.

James snickered. "If they do ask for lemonade, we say go check in the galley and giggle like idiots."

Esk stared at James, then shook his head. "Idiots, quite."

"Well if you had a sense of humor, you'd see how funny it was," James said, sticking his tongue out. He didn't really care if Esk called him an idiot though. That was just Esk's way of saying 'I love you', probably.

Esk looked unimpressed "I doubt that." He spoke flatly.

As the day neared its end, James did bring back the step stools. He didn't actually want to completely antagonize the other medics, after all, they'd probably be mad enough about Luka being healed. He didn't really want Asher to use his 'I'm disappointed in you' face. That one always made him feel like a terrible guy.

Dawn sorted through the supplies, making sure everything was in it's place again. Esk's visit had sobered her, but she hadn't taken down any labels and didn't really want to. That was clean fun.

Esk had gone back to whatever the hell he did all day, mostly avoiding his brothers and vicky and making snide "It's not a cow" remarks to Tala.

Kay and Asher had probably spent the day doing all those things Dawn had mentioned as date stuff. Playing board games, wandering around gardens in the holodeck, being stupidly boring people and all that.
It was nice to have a day without any excitement.

Of course, come morning when they returned to work they'd have to reorganise things and take down signs and fix the "mess" team B made. Bah, lemonade? really? visitors welcome? Hell no. Kay would take particular delight in shredding THAT sign.

As it turned out, Asher was very good at reading aloud, and had done an entertaining reading of a few chapters of one of Kay's books. So Dawn had been incredibly accurate in her description of date ideas that didn't involve food.

They probably stopped by in the evening to make sure the med bay hadn't blown up, but they didn't stay too long. The B Team could be scolded for healing Luka tomorrow. Yay.
For now they were still on duty. Ha.

Those books were so terrible, but perfect for someone with limited satare vocabulary. The books he hadn't lent to Luka were the ones that had snarky little notes written on the inside covers, which Kay wouldn't let Asher read aloud. It wasn't his handwriting, it was probably Gier's.
Asher's dramatic reading was pretty hilarious though.

TIMESKIP - DAY SIX

Asher prowled into the med bay fairly early in the morning to see what damage had been done in his and Kay's absence.

James was lounging behind the desk, feet up on it and looking smug. "Lemonade?" James asked.

Asher looked amused. "No thank you, it doesn't agree with me."

"Bah," James said, "I needed those twenty five cents."

Kay wasn't far behind Asher, he was a naturally early riser. He had coffee though. He frowned at the visitors welcome sign and gestured grumpily that James should remove his feet from the desk immediately.

James looked defiant.

"James," Asher said warningly, "This is the med bay."

James humphed, looking disgruntled, but took his feet off the desk and even, after a moment, went to wipe down the desk.

Asher smiled softly. "Thank you."

Dawn looked over to Asher and Kay and smiled as they came in "Hello" She was sitting on one of the beds again, being bored and kicking her feet lightly against the air.

[Quiet night?] Kay asked, setting his cup on his desk and taking down the lemonade sign. Yep, they clearly had way too much time on their hands. Curse them.

"So quiet. We got some good stuff done, but then nobody got hurt!" James looked sad. "We hung out with Esk, and wrote signs, and considered taking the stools, but nobody came in with problems. Argh."

Asher eyed the pen jar on the desk. It was oddly empty. Hmm.

Dawn nodded "We did check on Luka and got her taken care of" She said then shrugged a bit but she was grinning at that.

Kay looked unimpressed. Esk really must have been bored, or else he had some other reason to want to hang out with these two.
Weird.

[What else did you move?] He asked, yeah the place was just not right and he was itching to fix it. He looked suspiciously at Dawn. [What did you do?]

"Uh, funny story," James said shiftily, "We were visiting Luka and we had a great idea..."

Dawn dipped her head and chuckled "Well, you won't have to worry about keeping her on bedrest. Sawna is amazingly fast with a simple sprain injury."

Kay rubbed his temples. [We shouldn't be relying on her ability to heal people for their own stupid actions, it's not fair on her and it's not good for our dwindling blood supply. It also means there's no real repercussions for behaving irresponsibly. If injuries can just be healed with a wave of a hand then people will start taking more and more idiotic risks with no regard for Sawna's health or any side effects magical healing might have.]

Dawn frowned a little at that and tilted her head "Luka did stay in her bed for two days and was reluctant to use magic healing. Sawna didn't even need blood afterwards for that simple healing. But I do understand your point, it isn't something to be done for every little thing...do we even have a blood supply for everyone on this ship?"

Asher nodded. "Her ability is incredibly powerful and unique. Having her use it on minor injuries is a tremendous waste of her abilities, and we don't want her to be used as some sort of cheap fix for people's mistakes. She's a person, not a band-aid."
