Good Cop Bad Cop: Chapter One

One week. Asher has to be mean, Kay has to be nice. Whoever gives up first has to write a story for the winner. Should be... interesting.

Dawn looked to the door then shook her head "they both took the day off, so we are here to keep an eye on things. Are you alright?""

"We guess he snapped, they just left. No explanation, just asked us to work today." James grinned, "Asher's fine. I don't wanna know what he's doing though."

Esk shrugged. "I'm fine." He sounded dismissive. "Finally got you actually working huh? Wow James, actual real work. Don't strain something." He smirked and looked around. "Lemonade?" He shot James a disgusted look. "Knowing them, probably nothing at all interesting but even so, ew."

"I'll try to not overwork myself," James said, slouching back in his chair. "I've been doing some redecorating, changing the signs to better match us. It looks good, but it's hard work." He sighed, "I need my rest after that."

Dawn was chuckling at that and took a seat on one of the beds again. "I like the new signs"

"My brother is gonna be so pissed. " Esk looked around appreciatively. "I think I want to hang around to witness it."

James lazily gestured to an office chair. "Be our guest. Who knows when he'll be back, but it should be entertaining. Asher might be funny too, he's sorta territorial about this place himself."

Dawn shrugged a little. "Well, I think they would be more mad that we got Luka well enough to walk today."

Esk came into the room and slumped into the chair. "Oh yeah, she looked pretty mad at breakfast. " He snorted. "Fleet pilots hate bedrest, it's like having their wings clipped or something. They got no patience and are total wusses when it comes to pain." He shrugged. "What'd you do? Send her to the Carpathian?"

"Sawna came to us, but yes." Dawn said with a nod.

Esk nodded approvingly. If you had access to magical healing, why not use it? It was just practical.

James smiled. "The A Team will be sad that we healed a patient they were trying to punish. Ha!"

Dawn kicked her feet a little and looked around the room to see what else might need their attention

"you look bored Dawn." Esk remarked flatly. "Don't worry, knowing these morons someone will end up critically injured soon enough. "

Dawn looked back to him again then shrugged "I was just looking to see if there was anything else that might need a label." Yep, she was bored, but she wouldn't wish injury on anyone.

Esk looked around the room, musing on what might need labels. "You could always stick new labels over theirs. Or label the label maker." He shrugged, yeah he wasn't much good for silly things like this. His sense of humor was far darker and far crueler.
"You could misplace the step stools and put everything on a high shelf." He smirked.

James made a label for the label maker that said [JAMES ONLY] then he added another that said [AND DAWN].
He snickered at Esk's idea. What with Dawn's air magic and his extra bit of height, they could so inconvenience the other medics. "Yeah, they might throw us in the brig for that."

Dawn chuckled and shook her head "We could, but that would make it that much harder for us also." She said even as she got up "But hiding the step stools could work."

Esk looked smug. "Hey, not your fault they're both so short." He told James.

James grinned, got up, and found the stepstools. "They can climb on the counter if they need things up there," he said sensibly. Oh boy, they were gonna be mad.
He looked for a place to hide the stepstools.

"you guys have a deathwish." Esk remarked cooly, folding his arms and remaining seated. "maybe move all heavy objects out of reach, my brother throws things when he's mad. If his eye starts twitching, I recommend you run." He glanced to Dawn. "Or just hide behind James. He can't feel it anyway right?"

Dawn frowned at that and was quiet, thinking about what was said. Maybe they had done enough just with the labels.

Esk looked at Dawn. "Oh relax, I don't think he'll actually hurt you. He'll just glare and maybe lecture you and he's pretty easy to tune out. He was way more annoying when he could actually talk." He shrugged.

Dawn blinked and looked to Esk "He used to talk?"

Esk looked faintly surprised. "You didn't know that?" Huh, guess he didn't really mention it did he? He shrugged "yeah he did. I dunno, apparently it's some psychological shit. I never believed him, just thought he was stubborn and looking for attention." He shook his head. "He can't even scream, it's fucked up." He sounded dismissive of it all. Like it didn't really matter.

Dawn frowned then shrugged "The mind is a complicated thing, it doesn't surprise me that he made himself mute over some trauma."

Esk nodded. "Lycanthropy does nasty stuff to your sanity. " He looked sober for a moment, then waved a hand. "So seriously, WHY lemonade?"
