The water's pretty nice.

"Yeah, that sounds about right," James said. "Rollercoasters, carousels, places where you can win stuffed animals, all that good stuff."

Luka nodded. "sounds good." Yep, they could ride rides till she hurled and win the biggest, crappiest cuddly toy at the probably rigged games stands.

"It's too bad I can't eat cotton candy," James mused as the bus trundled down the sunny street past pretty little restaurants and statues of famous surfers, "It's the dumbest looking stuff. I touched it once, and it just squished so easily. I can only imagine how cool it'd be to lick. But I knew I'd never get it off my teeth if I licked it."

Luka shrugged. "I don't know, you could use a toothbrush with just water on. It's not like your teeth can rot right?" She looked at him. "What are they even made of?"

"I ate a cookie once, I was flossing my teeth for ages afterward, trying to get the crumbs out. I guess at least cotton candy doesn't have crumbs, but I'm paranoid now." James looked amused. "But yeah, our teeth are high quality plastic. Not insanely durable, but they wouldn't rot at least."

"That sounds like a terrible idea. Where would the food even GO?" Luka shook her head.

"Not really anywhere. We're not designed to imitate eating," James said sagely. "You hear about all those fictional androids with places to store food so they can pretend to eat, but that's just silly and a waste of space."

The bus announced that the next stop was the boardwalk. James got up.

"Yeah that sounds weird, like a pouch or something? ew. " She had a more... inappropriate question relating to that but thought better of asking it on a bus full of people. Ahem.

She waited till the bus stopped and stood to leave. "At least you can still go on rides though."

James nodded. "It's really dumb for androids to pretend to eat. Such a waste of food." Yeah, there were so many questions that could be raised about this subject. Many of which were inappropriate to discuss here. Heh.
He headed off the bus toward the park entrance. "Heck yeah. The rides are the fun part anyway. And you can win me a teddy bear or something."

Luka smiled "I'll do my best." She followed him, looking around the crowded boardwalk with a mixture of concern at the crowd and absolute faciniation at how bright and exciting it was.

James headed in, not very concerned by the crowds. He liked the energy of this place immediately, and that mattered more than any risk to his safety.

Some music from a carousel played in the distance, people screamed delightedly as a roller coaster raced through a turn in its track, and a lot of people where eating various junk foods and debating where to go first.

"Oh my gosh, it's awesome," James said, turning around to take it all in.

Luka looked around, nodding. "Let's go on a ride!" She declared, grabbing James' hand to drag him to a queue

"Yeah!" James agreed, letting himself be dragged along. He looked around to see what queue Luka had just pulled him into.

Luka had picked the coaster, which looked like a lot of fun.
She looked excited. "I haven't been to a fair in so many years. The traveling one we usually went to didn't have anything quite this impressive. "

"Should be fun then. I've never been on any of these rides outside of a holodeck, so it's new for both of us," James said. He looked up at the roller coaster, "That thing looks terrifying. You guys had a traveling fair sometimes?"

Luka nodded. "usually attached to the harvest or spring festivals, they'd bring in rides and activities along with the merchants bringing their animals to market and it would all be set up around the town square. There was a bigger fair in the city, that was usually for the really big summer celebration. Our father would get us all into the trailer and we'd drive over and spend the day. My brothers always fought over who got to sit at the front." She laughed, it was a fond memory.

"That sounds fun." James smiled, imagining little kid Luka being all excited to go to the fair. "Did you guys have roller coasters and stuff? And did you ever get the front seat?"

"The only ride like this was pretty small, this looks way more exciting and no, my brothers were all bigger than me. " She wrinkled her nose.

"They were mean to you," James said in a sage tone. "My older brother always let me do whatever I wanted, which proves he's a good brother. My sisters were bossier though." He shook his head, "Do you suppose all siblings take part in rampant gender discrimination?"

Luka chuckled. "I don't know, they were pretty awful to one another too." She reasoned.

James laughed. "Yeah, it's more fun to pretend they're sexist though."

They reached the front of the line where they'd have to pay to get on the roller coaster. The teenage guy looked at them confusedly, then requested the money. "Androids don't ride for free," he added apologetically.

"Discrimination!" James snickered.

Luka paid up. "if only." She smiled to James.

"Oh well, I suppose we can afford it," James said, feigning a look of tragedy. He paid, just because, and headed over to the roller coaster.

Luka grinned and got into her seat. She was clearly very excited about this.

James sat down next to her. "If we fall out and die, do our friends get insurance money?" James asked as the restraints were fixed so they couldn't fall out.

Luka snorted. "We're not gonna fall. And YOU could just be repaired." She reasoned.

"And if you fell, you'd die," James said. "Man, why am I letting you on this thing again?" he joked.
