Upon Vestia: Chapter Three

"I can only begin to imagine how difficult that must be for you," the android sympathized. He wondered if petting the disconsolate cat would be comforting, or a major overstep of personal boundaries.

Ellie raised her hand. "My com says 5:42pm."

Heny looked like a semi hit her at the words, "I-It was my fsult..." She said weakily, tears welling, "I was the one that angered.. him"

Star gave Asher a return look "Would you rather I not let Heny know that I am about to leave?" She asked then looked back to Heny when she spoke. She was at a loss since she hadn't heard that part of the story yet. "Heny, don't, whatever that was wasn't your fault"

"It wasn't your fault," Asher told her, voice gentle. "If you hadn't angered him, he'd still find an excuse to hurt you. Some people are like that. None of this was your fault," he repeated.
"You could have phrased it better," he muttered to Starr, "But I see what you mean."

Starr sighed and shook her head "I see that now" She said quietly then patted Heny's hand "I will be back once she has seen Merith is back again" She said then glanced to Asher and Kay before turning to the door again

Kay entered the room and placed the painkillers down on a side table so they were in easy reach for Asher. The he just stood well out of the way and waited to hear what Heny had to say, wondering if it would shed any further light on the situation or just lead to more riddles.

"Really, Heny, believe me. It wasn't your fault," he said softly.
He gave Starr an apologetic look as she left, resolving to explain the situation, and tell her that it wasn't her fault either, once he had the chance.

"It... It was... I should of known he would of found out like the last time.." She mumbled.

"I doubt he would have left you alone, even if you didn't make him angry," Asher said. "But how about you tell me what happened last time?"

Her handed open and closed in a nervous manner as she spoke, "We... We did something her forbad me to do because of my "duties"." She said softly, the memories of their Creator meddling strong in her mind.

Starr paused at the door, turning back and pulling Heny's pendant out "Here, I did finish these, they'll help hide your arcana signature." She said then paused and held it out to Asher "I don't want to hurt her trying to get that on" Not that she could one handed anyway

The android took the pendant from Starr. "I'll help her to put it on as soon as I can," he said. He looked at Heny, "'We', meaning you and Merith?"

"Y-yes.." She said.

Starr was intrigued, but she knew the child didn't need to hear this, so she moved to the door and out to find Merith, even asking Vestia where he was so she wouldn't have to search all over for him.

Asher thought of Heny's long-dead family, and saw what Heny was talking about. "It's not your fault," he said with conviction, "Your creator designed you with the capacity to feel, whether he meant to or not. If he wanted a mindless slave, he could have built one, but he didn't. This is entirely his fault, and you did nothing wrong."

She said nothing while turning her head away, weakily closing her eyes while asher probably figured it all out.

Kay caught a look at the pendant and then back at starr, hmm. He'd have to chat with her later about something.

Feeling he couldn't really add much at this point, he gently touched Asher's shoulder and indicated the door. The android looked to be handling things here fine and honestly Kay had no idea of Heny's history.

The android smiled at Kay, "Feel free to go if you like. I'll make sure Heny is all right." To Heny he said, "I hope you'll see that you aren't to blame for this, but for now I guess that might be difficult to think about. Now, on a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your pain?"

"1." She lied, wanting to feel the pain.

Asher gave her a long look. "For future reference, I might have believed you if you said 'five'," he said, with a slight note of humor in his voice. "How about I give you a small dosage, for my own peace of mind?"

"Fine..." She grumbled.

He measured out a dose that wasn't large, although it wasn't exactly small either, and injected it carefully. "Thank you. This will do a great deal to ease my worries."

She said nothing as he did the work.

Matt caught up with his brother on the way back to the med bay.

"Hey! So.. what's going on? I mean, well you know what I mean."

Kay shook his head and explained the situation as best he could. Matt looked worried.

"Do you think this creator guy is a potential threat to the ship itself?"

Kay shrugged.

"I vote we don't stay and find out then. We jump ship asap."

Kay frowned at his brother.

"What? Oh come on, we barely know these people! We don't owe then anything, they're strangers!"

They took a change employing us Mattias. Doesn't that deserve a little loyalty? They fed us too.

"OKay, we pay them back for the food and THEN we jump ship."

Kay stopped walking and folded his arms.

Matt sighed loudly "You're an idiot. You know that right? When we get killed, i'm blaming you."

Kay smiled softly.
If things get too dangerous, we can always shape space out of here.

Matt's expression slowly dissolved into a grin. "AHAH! Not as loyal as you like to pretend then! I KNEW IT!"

Kay shook his head. Just pragmatic. We may wander into a fight we have no hope of winning. I don't much care to die just yet. But so long as there's hope, we stay.

Matt put an arm around his brother's shoulders as they started walking again. "Well, you seem to have made yourself right at home already."

Kay smiled. All things considered, not the worst first day i've ever had.

Matt nodded. "Yeah, beats the munitions factory that's for sure."

Starr went to the room Vestia had indicated the keeper was in and knocked on the door to see if Merith would answer.

Asher sighed, remembering Vanessa and her desire to kill Merith, and that he had promised her a conversation. "I have something that I have to attend to elsewhere on the ship, if you'll be all right. Vestia can send 1812 over to keep you company, I'm sure."

"Alright.." She said softly while the words trailed off.

"1812 will take good care of you," Asher told her, "If he doesn't, I'll trap him in a bathtub for a few hours as punishment." He paused, "An empty bathtub. I'm not a monster."
He headed out to try and find Vanessa, if he could.
