Upon Vestia: Chapter Thirty-Six

Ellie frowned a little at the question. "Yeah, I've talked to them. They're glad to know I'm okay. It's so strange how much older they are now, though." In the photos she'd seen, they both had a lot of gray hairs she didn't remember from before.

Ethan looked amused. "The library's always open. You can stop by any time you want, as long as you don't get sugar on the books."

Once it was together, Danika helped move it to the wall and set the kitten on one of the platforms. "Cats like climbing and scratching, this has both types of playing in one thing."

Kay watched the kitten, nodded vuagely and put the instructions back into the box. It made sense he supposed, in the absence of nature to create fake trees and such.

He idly wondered if cats liked being on space ships, there wasn't really much to hunt or climb.

He looked at the box thoughtfully, then tipped it on its side. Apparently cats also like boxes. He smiled.

Danika looked back and chuckled at the kitten in the box staring up at them. "They do like boxes." She agreed

Kay looked around the room, what else needed setting up? He looked awkward, not really sure what to do or say. Once we're done here would you like to get something to eat? He suggested, for want of anything else to do.

Danika grinned up at Kay again That sounds good. I just need to put my clothes away and set up the litterbox I think. I don't have a lot of stuff

Kay nodded again. Hmmm yes, litter, another reason not to have animals on a ship he thought.

He wondered if they'd be happier on the ranch.

i'll sort the tray out. He decided. He could do that right? Pour some sand into a tray.

Danika nodded and motioned to the other box that had the pan and litter in it before grabbing her clothes to sort them into the drawers and set out the cat bed for the kitten. She didn't have many posters or decor like that and what she did have, she wanted to sort out for herself and possibly a long time down the road.

Kay got to work, it didn't take long even if he was just sort of guessing.

Once everything was done he looked back to Danika to see how she was getting along, reaching down to pet the kitten gently on the head as he passed it.

Danika was putting the last of her clothes away and looked to Kay as he came through. She smiled at him petting the kitten when he passed by, it was sweet to her. "Done, at least for now."

Kay smiled softly and looked around. Wow, she really didn't have much did she? Then again, neither did he. Especially not now.
Damn decompression. At least he hadn't been one to hoarde that much stuff in the first place.

Ready to go eat then?

Danika nodded and looked to him with a smile "Yes, I'm ready." She replied, going to his side and reaching for his hand.

Kay hesitated, then took Danika's hand in his. It still felt wierd, seeing her in humanoid form, looking so much older. It was surreal and he was struggling to wrap his head around it all frankly.

He forced a smile and led the way to the dining area.

Danika smiled up at him again and walked beside him to the new dining room. She paused at the door, looking around in surprise. "This is so fancy." Of course everything was fancy up here.

Kay looked amused, nodding. It is. I'm not entirely sure i'll ever get used to it. He moved to get them something to eat.

Danika chuckled softly and followed Kay to see what there was to eat here. She was a little disappointed it was not fancy food, but then again, she wouldn't want to eat fancy food. It had too many rules.

(i'm sorry i'm slow, i've got a headache and it's not letting up. Been about 4 days now. Eugh)

Kay wouldn't have a clue what fancy food even was, but he put some things on a plate and helped Danika with hers as well.

Danika smiled at Kay then looked around, taking her plate to a booth. It was off to the side so they could sit without being easily seen if anyone else came in. She remembered that Kay didn't like being in public or something like that.

(That's fine, I've been swamped with kids anyway.)

Ellie considered Vela's things. "Which things do you not mind being clawed by kittens?" she asked with a small smile."In the interest of protecting the stuff you really care about, I mean."

Kay settled down and ate slowly, he looked distracted.
Truthfully he didn't really know what to say, what to ask, what to do.

Vela frowned a little then shook her head. "I don't want any of it clawed up, but I could just fix anything that is."

Danika didn't mind the silence, it was actually kind of nice to be still and quiet for little while while they ate.

"Fair enough," Ellie said with a giggle. She peered into a box for something decorative to put on a shelf.

Vela had more decorative things than the other two, though they didn't have much to put them in one category besides being knickknacks. She had a few animals and small buildings that were ceramic along with plush creatures and her posters. That was it besides her clothes.

Ellie stuck the poster to the wall, then picked out a couple of plush toys to place on the shelf below it artfully. "So," she said as she worked, "How's it been, living on a space station? Did you guys get many visitors?"

The port stays busy, but that's mostly the family or friends of the workers or people who think they can add to one of the experiments or just those who got lost and would run out of food or fuel before making it back to more populated space." Vela said with a shrug as she picked out some things and put them up.

Ellie nodded. "Makes sense. Do dragons ever visit?" she asked curiously, setting another toy on the shelf.

Silent was Kay's speciality of course, and with his mind drawing a total blank he just ate in silence, trying to focus his thoughts. Franly the whole situation was a bit overwhelming and emotionally exhausting for him. He felt guilty and was grieving lost time, but also relieved to see loved ones again.
It was complicated.
