"your expertise clearly lie in fluffy pillows, mopping brows and making soothing noises." Luka nodded and patted him on the shoulder. "and don't underestimate the importance of that sort of nursing. "

"You're so understanding, Luka!" James said, laughing. "Why aren't my coworkers this understanding? It's terrible." He went up to a ship at random, looking at it. He kept his eyes open for normal-ish people too.

"Because they're mean." Luka told him. "Except Dawn, she's a sweetheart." She frowned, man, she hadn't seen Dawn properly in a while. She hoped she was okay. Still embarrassed about the drunken thing probably.
"Looks like most people went to the city. "

"It's funny, I used to think my brother was nice, but he's kind of a jerk," James said. "Yeah, Dawn's always gonna be the nicest of us. We're lucky to have her."
He looked toward the nearest portal a bit reluctantly. The city was so dang chaotic with all its crazy magic users.

"Why don't we just wander around and look at all the different ships?" Luka suggested. "Look at them all, so many different cultures, so many different ships. "

"That's a better idea," James agreed. He went up to a ship that looked small and spiky and was emblazoned with a green and gold emblem he didn't recognize, "Wonder who made this."

Luka studied the logo. "I don't know, maybe Swarm or Vestia have something stored away about it. We could ask?"

"Hmm, I don't feel like going back to Vestia yet. Maybe I'll research it later," said James. Photographic memory ftw. He looked around to see if Swarm was there at the moment.

Luka nodded.

Swarm hadn't followed them, they seemed to be distracted elsewhere.

Huh, weird. Usually a bit of Swarm could be found nearby. James shrugged it off and went on looking.

A mechanic was climbing on a ship, fixing something. He spotted them, looking wary for a moment, then relaxed when he didn't recognize them.

Luka looked up at the mechanic, hmm.
She kept walking.

James and Luka eventually reached the edge of the spaceport. "Well that was kinda boring," James said, shaking his head, "No people."

Luka laughed. "Lots of interesting ships though." She was admiring a space yacht "Some of these look so inefficient in their design. A few i'm certain shouldn't be able to actually land on anything with gravity."

"They're probably," James paused dramatically, "Magic ships." He looked at the yacht curiously. "Fancy. That does look sort of impractical."

Luka made a face. "magic, always undermining perfectly good technology and aerodynamics." She shook her head. "There's so much more ... wonder I suppose, in something you know what built by hand using only technology and an understanding of the forces of nature. Magic feels like cheating. Sure you get a ship shaped like a brick to fly, but isn't this so much more graceful?" She indicated a shiny torpedo shaped ship. "of course in space you can build a giant damn cube and it'll fly, but you're never gonna land that thing. "

James smiled slightly. "I've never put that much thought into it, but yeah, I can see how it's kinda more impressive when they make these things with science than with magic. And they're prettier. Usually. I'm sure someone has a ship shaped like a magic pumpkin that flies great, and I maintain that that ship is the dream."

"you want a magical pumpkin ship?" Luka looked confused.

"Like in Cinderella. I guess you haven't seen Cinderella, but it's about a girl who falls in love with a prince, and her mean stepsisters bully her. But she finds out she has a magical aunt and the aunt gives her a carriage made from a pumpkin, and a pretty dress," James said, "So she goes to the ball and there's some drama but she gets the prince."

"That's a damn big pumpkin." Luka remarked. "So James, you want a prince do you? Or are you the prince in this story awaiting the pumpkin ship with the princess inside?"

"I want the guy with the money," James said, grinning. "Or lady. I don't care, they just need to be rich."

Luka shook her head. "You're weird. " She told him.

"Who doesn't love a story about a miserable underdog who gets a magic aunt and pretty clothes?" James said.

Luka laughed. "I think i'd rather just have the money and forgo the prince and the pumpkins."

"That's not as cool, but yeah, I'd be fine with just the money too," James agreed. "The underdog story is fun though, and a literary reference spaceship is fun too."

"I'd want a ship with awesome shields and a lot of guns." Luka decided. "hey, if you had all the money, you could probably buy a pumpkin ship... and a pretty dress, you know... if you wanna wear a pretty dress." She chuckled at the image.

James laughed. "You're so pragmatic. No sense of romance at all," he said, amused. "Okay, I'll buy a pretty ship and a nice dress then when I'm rich, and I'll look lovely. No princes required."

"Who says i have no sense of romance?" Luka countered with a smirk. "I just don't hold with this expecting some rich man to come do everything for me. Or magic." She snorted in amusement. "I'll find a rugged soldier and we'll fight off hoardes of monsters side by side. And then i'll whisk him away in my heavily armored ship!" She grinned. Yes, she liked this idea.
