Upon Vestia: Chapter Twelve

"Yep, all alone on a desert planet with a weird bird." Ellie scowled, "False gods. So gross. I hope all immortals die soon." She paused, "Umm, well, I hope the immortals I like stick around for a while longer though."

Skye glanced over to the chicks then looked to Kay again "You had better not harm any of the kids." She said then turned away to go back to the table

Kay nodded, tensing. Well that went about as badly as one could have hoped. He looked to Asher, shook his head and moved to leave.

Asher looked at Skye helplessly. There wasn't much he could do to get her to trust Kay. They'd just have to hope that she'd come around eventually.

Skye went to get Moone and the chicks to go back to her room with them

Kay left, yep... figured. Ellie's reaction lulled him into a false sense of security, Skye's reaction was far more what he'd expected.
He kept his head down, his expression sombre.

Asher walked beside him, not sure what to say. "Is there anything I can do?" He finally asked, watching Kay worriedly.

Kay shook his head. [It's going to be awful, but my brother is right. The people here deserve to know the risks. The people on this ship's secrets and lies have caused enough pain and misery, it's time for honesty. Even if it means they all hate me and don't want to come anywhere near me.] He looked miserable. [At least nobody's tried to shoot me yet. But the day is still young.] He huffed. [Who's next?]

Asher sighed. "You're right, this is for the best." He thought for a moment, "Let's try Mourn next?"

Kay nodded. [I think it may be prudent to ask him to disarm first though.] Yeah he didn't trust that cat not to be violent. He was usually harmlessly mad, but who knew with that guy.
Tense and worried, they headed toward Mourn's location.

Mourn was tinkering with some scrap parts in one of the rec rooms and didn't notice them come in, he was utterly absorbed in whatever he was doing.

"Vestia, can you tell Mourn we're here?" Asher.

---Asher and Kay are here. Kay wants to talk to you--- Vestia blinked her lights in Morse code.

Mourn frowned and looked up, his expression changing to a grin as he saw who it was.

"Medics!" He stood up, wiping his oil stained hands on his coveralls. "Why you here?" He tilted his head.

[Could you give Asher your weapons for a moment?] Kay asked.

"Why?" Mourn looked at them both confused.

[Because I have to tell you something and i'd sooner not get shot.]

Mourn laughed. "Why I shoot grumpy medic? I no shoot medic." He eyed Asher. "Sure you want him to have gun?"

Kay rubbed his temples. [He already has a gun and I trust him not to use it. ]

"you funny medic." Mourn shrugged and unclipped his pistol and cutlass, both of which he handed to Asher. He was curious about what this was all about, and why Kay trusted the robot who'd SHOT HIM already to have the gun but not Mourn. What could he possibly have to tell him that would make Mourn want to shoot him?

Asher took the weapons. "I've already heard what Kay is going to tell you, so we know I won't react violently," he explained.

Mourn eyed Asher critically. "You funny robot. " He shook his head. "What you have to say medic?" He stared at Kay.

Kay winced, Mourn's over eager staring was really unsettling.
He wanted to get this over and done with quick.

[I've decided that the time for secrets and lies is over, we've travelled together long enough to be able to trust one another, theoretically and everyone here deserves to be made aware of potential dangers on board. ]

"mmm?"

[I am infected with Lycanthropy, do you understand what that means?] He watched Mourn warily.

Mourn stared back. "You werewolf?"

Kay nodded.

Mourn glanced to Asher for confirmation that Kay wasn't just screwing with him. "He werewolf?"

"Yes," Asher said carefully. "I've seen him change, and he's definitely a," he hesitated, "werewolf."

Mourn made a face. "Don't like dogs."

[neither do I.] Kay told him.

Mourn laughed. "Funny Medic. " He stared at him some more. "You gonna die?" He asked.

Kay frowned, then shook his head. [no, no i've had this illness for over 14 years. I'm fairly certain it isn't going to kill me now. ]

"Good. " Mourn nodded. "People be sad if grumpy medic die. Robot have to do all the work and get grumpy too."

Kay looked baffled. Mourn was weird, but he was taking this strangely well.

Asher hadn't expected Mourn to be so relaxed about this. "Yes, we definitely need Kay here," he agreed.

Suddenly, the room that Mourn, Kay and Asher were in would hear a rattle. The vent grate fell and with a squeak the tiny Saraphine managed to catch herself with the string harnessed around her torso and tied to a bolt in the vent. She dangled there, staring at the three.

Mourn turned at the sudden movement out the corner of his eye. "AHAH! Tiny hunter!" He lunged for her but was actually too short to grab her from her position that high up.
His tail twitching, he stared up at her.

Kay startled at the sudden sound and watched Sara warily, how much had she just overheard?
He looked to Asher, who being the tallest, marginally, stood the best chance of grabbing her and getting her down safely.

Saraphine squeaked and clung to the thread tightly, her sword-needle flailing at Mourn's claws, "Away from me, heathen! Away with your claws and jars!" When she realized the flailing was useless and that Mourn couldn't reach her, she simply dangled there. "So... what's this about a werewolf?" She asked awkwardly, not looking too alarmed.

Asher went over to the tiny girl, looking at her in concern. "Do you need any help?" He asked. He gave Mourn a 'leave her alone' look.

Kay facepalmed. Yep, talking to the loud deaf guy was a bad idea for keeping things quiet.

"No more jars, others got grumpy. No like jars. no understand jar like teeny glass jail cell." Mourn huffed. He pointed at Kay. "Grumpy medic werewolf. Explain why so grumpy. I be grumpy too if I part dog."

[I'm not part dog!] Kay protested.

"Well, yes and no." She admitted to Asher. "See, I can get back up INTO the vent, but I can't get down into the room."

"Haha!" Saraphine couldn't help but chuckle at the small banter between Mourn and the medic. Then, the tiny woman then glanced at Kay, looking curious but not so much scared. "Oh. Well, alright then."

"Well if you want to come join us, I'm happy to help," Asher told Sara.

"Let go, robot catch." Mourn suggested. "you good at catching?" He asked Asher.

Kay looked around for a chair or something and dragged it over.

"I'm a robot. Of course I'm good at catching things and people. But a chair is probably better," Asher said, amused.

"That would be nice, actually. Hold on--" With the agility and jumping ability of a flea, she quickly scaled the way up to the vent to undo the rope knot. She returned, holding her own weight on one rope and using it as her own pulley system until she was close enough to someone's grasp to let go, where she promptly plopped into their palm. "Thanks."

"Why you in vents again?" Mourn asked Sara.

[Are you alright?] Kay was honestly rather grateful for the distraction.
