"Good idea." James found a mild liquid painkiller, presumably intended for children, and diluted it in water for Swarm. "I wonder where they are."

Swarm had found a dark corner where the whole lot of them were crawling over the wall and floor in one large mass.

James nodded and headed out of the med lab. "Let's start with Rigel, I guess?"

"Ok, he might be grumpy though" Dawn informed and headed to her uncle's room to knock on the door.

"Go 'way" Rigel grumbled from under his pillow

"I'm not scared of grumpy," James said brightly. "Hey Rigel, we have painkillers and sympathy," he called.

"Painkillers are good" Rigel said and sighed, getting up to answer the door, still in yesterday's clothes.

"You make 'hung over and miserable' look good," James said, fanning himself. "Got the pills for him, Dawn?"

Dawn looked to James then laughed and handed her uncle the pills.

Rigel groaned a little and took the pills, disappearing to his bathroom to take them with some water.

James chuckled. "Need anything else?" he called after Rigel, keeping his voice carefully soft to minimize pain. "And I mean that in a completely platonic way, because I'm still making a point to some guys I probably will never meet again," he added hastily.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time," James said, adopting a comically plaintive tone. Voice returning to normal, he said, "Come on, Dawn, let's go find Swarm."

"And Tala, unless you saw her earlier" Dawn said, looking to James then waving to her uncle who was returning to bed. She closed the door and headed off in search of the two.

"Swarm won't deck us if we make their headache worse," James said sensibly, "Tala might, so we'll look for her last."

They would have to look around for a bit, but they were able to avoid Tala, and find Swarm's corner eventually.
"Hey, you guys need any painkillers?" James asked.

"Is it safe?" the swarm asked. "Do they care?" another asked. "Maybe not, but can't afford to lose more of ourselves."

"It shouldn't be any more dangerous than getting yourselves drunk in the first place," James said, but he sounded uncertain. Accidentally killing these guys wasn't an idea he liked at all.

James nodded. "Probably the mildest painkiller ever invented, diluted with water. It could be deadly, we don't know, but I did my best to make sure it wasn't."

James set the tiny cup of liquid down for the insects, hand shaking slightly for a moment as the First Law protested for a moment. "Let's hope this works."
