Upon Vestia: Chapter Thirty

Skye nodded and smiled a little "It's a little scary though, when you only see your own kind then see a city with the others."

Armin beamed. His artwork was sketchy and fairly abstract, as most fashion designer art was. The focus more on the garment than the form it was designed for. He'd been doodling embroidery for a bodice. "I would be honored to design for any of Miss Starr's guests."

"I know they would love to wear Vavare clothing once again, though I have asked them to give you time to heal." Starr said and looked up to Armin "It is beautiful."

James thought the vavare and the star dragons' species friendship was adorable. He couldn't help but smile at the thought of all the star dragons dressing in Armin's creations, and how proud Armin would no doubt be."I'd love to see that. Royalty, wearing gorgeous clothes, oh yes."

Armin looked pleased. "thank you miss Starr." He bowed his head. It meant a lot coming from her particularly.

"We used to, the memories I have been shown by the older ones show that we once had pretty much exclusively Vavare clothing in the royal closets. Even the Ladies wore dresses made and designed by Vavare people." Such memories were lovely to look at, and she was gathering the information on the flora and fauna of their homeworld at the same time. When they had a safe place, she would help to make their world again.

Armin smiled, that made sense to him, vavare silk was used by many royal lines and given the mythical nature of star dragons within his culture, the knowledge they once traded with them was quite wonderful. "I am certain such a tradition being ressurected would be quite welcome and embraced by my people."

Starr nodded and chuckled "My people would like it resurrected too. They are quite eager to talk to you once you are better, or to get in touch with the Vavare home world when it is safe to."

Armin blinked. "they.. do? How extraordinary that will be." He glanced to his shrine, murmuring a soft praise to the weaver. "What a glorious reunion. So many generations have passed since your people flew the stars freely, it will surely be a sign of prosperous times when you all have such freedom once again."

Starr smiled happily and nodded again "Yes, it will be wonderful to be free and able to go where we will once more. Though with a bit more caution for a while."

Armin looked troubled, something had occured to him. "I do hope you don't find it inappropriate to ask but... have your people mentioned HOW you were all captured in the first place?" Creatures as powerful as Star Dragons shouldn't be easy to subdue, but knowing it had happened once meant it could happen again. This concerned him. "So that you may prevent it from ever happening again?"

James frowned at that question, it was a good one to ask. How could anyone take down dragons who could survive in vacuums and create stars?
Scary thought.

Starr sighed softly and dipped her head, resting it against the floor "We may be powerful creatures, but even you know of ways to get past that power. Electrocution can knock us out, sugar makes us drunk, anti-magic makes our power void, threatening those we hold dear can make us comply. That is how most were captured, threatening those that we loved. We were too peaceful back then. We did not war with anyone if it could be avoided. I am not as my ancestors were, none of us are anymore. This has changed us, made us hold anger and hate where we didn't before."

Armin dipped his head, looking sad. "I am sorry."

"It sucks that there isn't always a peaceful solution," James said softly. He hated to think of what that must have been like for the star dragons, how they'd had to surrender, knowing they might not see freedom again, but preferring that over losing their loved ones. "Maybe once the bad guys see you aren't scared to use your power against them, they'll realize it's best to run the other way."

"As am I, my friend. It is not a simple topic." Starr said and looked up at him again then over to James and nodded "That is my hope, that once we start rebelling in earnest, we can be free through our own power."

"That's the spirit," James said. "You dragons deserve to be feared and respected. We're all rooting for you guys."

Starr smiled again, glad for their praise and approval. She needed it though she tried not to show it. It was not easy to decide the fate of so many.

"your people will be free again Miss Starr, under your leadership you will save them, I know this." Armin nodded, resting a hand on her shoulder gently. He wasn't able to be as tactile as he usually was, but it was a difficult habit to break.

Starr tilted her head, rubbing it against his arm gently like a cat would. She didn't want to hurt him after all. "I will do my best, though not all will be saved." She said softly. That was a cost of war.

James looked glum at that. In a perfect world, everyone would have been saved. Then again, in a perfect world, slavery wouldn't exist in the first place. It stank that the world was so flawed.
"Just tell us if there's anything you ever need our help for, Starr, we'll do whatever we can."

Armin smiled at Starr's cat-like behavior and patted her head.
He nodded at James' words "All here will aid your people, and your people will be free. "

Starr gave them a smile at their support and nodded. "If I need help, I will ask for it. I know this cannot be done alone."

James smiled weakly. "Good. We're all in this crazy freedom thing together. Making the world a better place, and all that."

"It is a good place to be." Armin nodded.

"That will be good when there are no slaves anymore." Starr said happily.
