Upon Vestia: Chapter Twenty-Three

"You have a tablet at least, right?" Asher asked Dawn.

Dawn nodded and chuckled "Yeah, That's what we watch movies on with Esk, my tablet."

"Good." Asher nodded. "Once you're feeling more rested up, we can play some chess, or you can help me to tell off Matt for irresponsible wheelchair usage." He looked amused, yeah, he knew Matt didn't listen to people when they told him off. Oh well.

Dawn chuckled at that then shrugged "Maybe, or promise him a wheelchair race in the holodeck once he's well enough?"

[Have you considered setting up the chat facility? You could video or text chat with the others on bedrest, might help pass the time and stave off the loneliness anyway.] Kay suggested

Asher laughed. "Are you taking sides against me on the subject of wheelchair racing? I'm hurt." He nodded at Kay's suggestion, "Yes, video chatting might be good to try. I'm sure Matt and Ellie would love it."

[At least holodeck races would be less likely to cause injury.] Kay shook his head.

"Fun and safety together" Dawn said and laughed then shrugged "When we are better."

Asher laughed. "Whatever makes you guys happy, I guess."

Dawn shrugged "It's incentive anyway. If you tell Matt he can do a race when he's better, he may actually try to stay still longer."

Kay nodded. [You're probably right. ]

Dawn chuckled and nodded again "Part of being a medic is learning how to placate patients, at least according to the books I've been reading."

Kay nodded. [My elder brother is nothing if not stubborn. Tell him not to do something, he'll become even more determined to do it.] He shook his head, it was exhausting.

"You push him, he pushes back, so try not to push him, try going around him instead. It'll be less stressful" Dawn said then shrugged "Though he might push back on that too"

Asher looked amused. "Or just proceed as usual and hope for the best. Ultimately I'm not sure we can outsmart Matt on this."

Dawn chuckled again at that, nodding "True, he has had years of practice, hasn't he?"

Kay nodded grimly. [There is, unfortunately, very little one can do to stop Matt from being Matt. Even Web could never really control him, he is... a rule unto himself. Best you can do is mitigate the worst of the consequences.] He looked tired.

Dawn saw that and sat up to reach for his hand "Hey, if you need a rest, take one. We don't need you out because of exhaustion too and you have a ship full of friends as well as Asher to help out now. Wait, would we call this being boyfriends, lovers, significant other? Oh..." Dawn looked surprised at her thoughts then grinned "Hey, Asher's actually considered his own person here, that means you two could get married if you both want that." She said, trying to cheer Kay up now.

Asher nodded at Dawn's suggestion that Kay take it easy too, then ducked his head at the whole... Getting married idea. Umm. He glanced to Kay, whom he suspected would be spectacularly uncomfortable with this topic, then smiled softly at Dawn, "I don't think we need any specific titles at the moment for our relationship, but you're right, Kay has been handling a huge share of the work lately. Hopefully we'll be able to start delegating better, I know James is pretty exhausted at this point which isn't good either."

Dawn looked to Asher and smiled again "It's just a thought I had, take it or leave it." She said gently before laying down again

Kay looked distinctly uncomfortable, ducking his head to hide the face his cheeks were flushing. Yeah how did you respond to that? He didn't know. For all he was comfortable enough discussing his sexuality, discussing his relationships was a whole other area.
[I need to check on Esk.] He wrote hastily.

Asher smiled reassuringly at Dawn again. This sort of conversation didn't bother him nearly as much as it bothered Kay, although yeah, it was a tiny bit outside his comfort zone too. "You should get some more sleep, and then pester Ellie and Matt with lots of messages," he told her. "I'll tell Esk you said hi if you want."

Dawn smiled and nodded "Thanks, I will and you can." She said then chuckled again.

Asher wheeled his way to the door. "See you later, Dawn."

Kay waved vuagely and hastened for the exit.
