Species/Racial Origin: Android - Mirrorverse type, meaning he feels physical sensations. First Law is to obey his master, and the Second Law is to not harm living beings. However he's free now, so the Laws no longer apply.

Family: James has adopted him as his brother. Asher recognizes Ethan as family too, but is less enthusiastic about it. Lark doesn't even know he exists yet, so they aren't siblings.

Physical Description: Physically identical to Asher. Gray eyes, 5’8”, Caucasian features and skin tone, average build. Has ‘resting bitch face’, unlike Asher, so you can tell them apart by whether they habitually look like they want to stab you or not.

Typical Clothing/Equipment: Black leather jacket. Black boots. Black jeans. He prefers dark clothes because he thinks they make him look more intimidating. (Asher wears lighter colors and no leather jackets, so clothes are a great way to tell them apart.) Doesn't carry weapons most of the time, although he used a Dakkin bayonet when fighting in the war against the Family.

Spent his entire life serving masters who didn’t much care about him as a person, and didn't give him much chance to learn to healthily interact with people. His last master, the mirrorverse’s Kaylr, was cruel and extremely abusive. This led to Ethan being fearful and angry, constantly trying to defy Kaylr in an attempt to maintain some amount of dignity and free will, before being painfully reminded of what a dangerous idea defiance was. He started to sadistically enjoy hurting people for Kaylr, seeing someone else terrified and suffering gave him an illusion of power.

It's no surprise that he chose to leave the Mirrorverse when he was given the chance, he had no love for that place.

Ever since he was freed, Ethan's been trying to change himself for the better. He desperately wants to avoid becoming the evil person Kaylr would want him to be, so he tries to avoid hurting people physically or emotionally, and even tries to help them when he can. He reads books to expand his knowledge and learn how free people are supposed to act, and manages Vestia's library because it gives him a safe outlet for his need to exert control over something. These days he even feels sympathy for people sometimes, an emotion which he usually acts on by awkwardly offering the person books, or by making unconvincing excuses to visit them.

His quest for self improvement is made a lot harder by the fact that he's still struggling to cope with the trauma he survived. He's emotionally guarded, not great at empathy, not good in social situations, and dislikes any sort of physical contact with people. When under stress, he starts finding himself sliding back into his old coping methods, fantasizing about how he could trap and hurt other crew members, and imagining how good it would feel to have power over them. He's grateful to Vestia's crew and normally has no desire to hurt them, but intrusive thoughts are a difficult thing to rid yourself of.

Ethan doesn't know if he's ever going to escape the influence of what he went through. But he's extremely stubborn, and he's going to defy Kaylr by trying his hardest to break the cycle of abuse and misery.

Hobbies: Reads a lot. He finds that reading helps keep his mind from drifting back to Kaylr, which is great. It also helps him learn a ton about this new universe he's in, how people think, and how freedom is supposed to work.

Strengths: Very stubborn, he tries his hardest to not let his fears and past traumas dictate his actions, which is why he tried so hard to resist Kaylr even though it only made his life worse. He's also open to recognizing his own issues, and attempting to understand and handle them. He knows he's pretty messed up, and he wants to try and become less messed up if he can.

Weaknesses: Robot weaknesses: Water knocks him out if it gets past his skin, tasing knocks him out, his lifespan is 35 years, he can't hear telepathy.
Personal weaknesses: Thinks of his own well-being first, not terribly good at empathy, has difficulty trusting people. He never really had peers or friends growing up, and although sometimes his masters treated him okay, he didn't really develop much attachment or empathy for anyone. He also trouble dealing with situations that remind him too strongly of unpleasant experiences on mirror Vestia, and his responses can range from moderate discomfort to fairly severe flashbacks.

Likes: Sitting in the library and reading a book. Talking to the people he feels comfortable around. Snooping and silently judging people for the books they check out from the library.

Dislikes: Being told how to feel about what Kaylr did to him (it's his miserable past, and he'll decide how he feels about it on his own, thank you very much). Paperweights bring back unpleasant memories. Small enclosed spaces also make him nervous and irritable, he hates feeling cornered. He also doesn't like physical contact much, and sometimes freezes up when someone touches him.

Most Instructive/Painful/Memorable Experience: With the number of things Kaylr did to him, it’s hard to pick just one, and it’s best not to describe it anyway.

Philosophy of life: "I won't let Kaylr win."

Education/Special Training: Mirrorverse android programming - hand to hand combat, sex bot, shuttle pilot, first aid. He also picked up some useful skills throughout his time as a slave: making awesome coffee, washing cars, and holding down unwilling slaves to be tortured, are his specialties.

Sexual Preference/Experience/Values: Asexual/panromantic. Gets romantic crushes on people sometimes, although he's not likely to admit it to himself, much less to anyone else. That sort of emotional vulnerability feels way too dangerous to him, so he prefers to deny it entirely. He has no interest in sex, he'd rather talk about books or something.
