Upon Silver Devil: Chapter Three

[I can't say i've ever seen him drunk actually. I haven't seen him in nearly ten years.] Hmm that'd be interesting. [He got tall.] He smiled oddly, trying to make light of what was clearly pretty awkward and difficult.

Ivor nodded, looking unsure. "th... thank you?" He wasn't much used to kindness.

Nor was Silence, she looked tense. She nodded curtly.

"We'll show them around later?" James asked Rigel. He supposed it might be good for the shifters to settle in a bit, but at the same time, he thought they should know their way around the ship. "Maybe you can at least picture where the bathroom is in your mind?" he added. That sounded weird. Whoops.

Rigel looked to James and laughed softly at that. "Yeah, didn't think about that, but sure, if they want a tour, we can go ahead and do that." He said then looked to the kids again "Would you rather have the tour or settle in a bit first?"

Ivor looked uncertain. "What.. whatever you think is best..." He wasn't very good at asserting himself, too used to doing as he was told.

Silence nodded slowly, she was watching Rigel and James warily.

"Let's show them around. Then they can get settled in," James decided. He smiled at the shifters, "Come on, guys, you can meet the rest of the crew. You'll like Dawn, she's nice."

Ivor and Silence exchanged glances, but they followed James obediently.

James led the way out of the room and up toward the main living areas. "This is the main room, people hang out here a lot. Or they avoid this place like the plague because it's where people hang out a lot. But it's a good room to know about." He gestured expansively to the room, which was honestly kind of shabby.

Silence and Ivor followed in silence. Silence looked around curiously while Ivor seemed to be far more wary. He kept his arms folded close to himself, cradling his stunted arm and keeping his head down, glancing up only every so often to take in their surroundings.

Rigel followed them to the main room then went to the side "The kitchen is over here. Everyone pretty much just makes what they like or has leftovers from the fridge." He said then shrugged.

"Yeah, try to clean up after yourselves, so I have less work to do," James said. "But the food's there, so eat some of you need it."

Silence nodded.

Ivor hesitated. "W.. what are the rules?" He asked.

"Overall? Basically just the 'golden rule', you know, do unto others as you want them to do to you. For the kitchen, try to clean up after yourself and try not to waste anything. We only have limited storage on the Devil, she's a small ship so space counts." Rigel said with a shrug then a smile as he kind of joked. "Space stations don't grow closer just because we are in need"

Ivor looked a bit bewildered. He was certain there must be other rules, there were always rules.

Esk appeared in the doorway, he wanted to get a look at these two. He had a pretty impressive bruise forming on his jaw and lip.

Silence stared at him.

Ivor looked startled.

Rigel shrugged a little then looked to Esk "Hi Esk" He said then looked at the two again the do to others thing pretty much covered everything in his mind. He stood and headed for the medic room "This room is our medical room, for if you get hurt or anything." He said then knocked and peeked in to see if Dawn was awake and in bed like she was supposed to be before he opened the door fully and went in. "This is my niece Dawn, and our medic, though she got hurt on the station."

Ivor looked tense, too many people.

Silence looked at Dawn, tilting her head.

Esk shook his head. "Yep, weird."

Dawn looked to the two then raised a hand in a wave. "Hello"

Silence stared at Dawn, then finally nodded her head.

Ivor rubbed his head. "am not!" He protested randomly.

Esk folded his arms and leaned against the doorframe.

"I don't... may.. may I be excused, I need to lay down." Ivor mumbled.

<<You're Hexenfolke aren't you?>> Esk asked, speaking in his native tongue.

Ivor winced, then nodded.

"That's fucking weird..." Esk remarked. "headache?" He touched his own temple, emulating Ivor.

Ivor looked uncertain. "too... too many voices... " He winced. "They never.. shut.. up."

Silence put a hand on his shoulder again.

"Why don't you talk?" Esk asked the girl.

She frowned at him.

"You can't? or you just don't want to?" Esk continued ,hey, he was nosy.

Silence stared at him, looking a little unsure.

"Great, they're both fucking wierdos." Esk sighed and straightened up. "You'll fit in just fine on Vestia, they're all fucking nuts."

Ivor stared at the floor, looking awkward.

"They're fine, leave them alone," James said, glaring at Esk. He tried to look reassuring for Ivor and Silence. "Esk is a dick, but he isn't so bad really. Just ignore him if he's being annoying."

"You can go back to your room if you want, the other rooms are just bedrooms mostly, and the cockpit and storerooms." Rigel said gently.

Dawn frowned and looked to Esk "You really shouldn't call people weird, even if we are weird." Yeah, she accepted she was weird, but it still wasn't nice to say, yet she still wanted him to stick around. "Are you going to sit with me again?"

Esk shrugged and moved out of Ivor and Silence's way.

Silence nodded to Rigel and led Ivor out of the room, trying to remember how the heck to get back to their rooms.

"You really don't think it's weird?" Esk told Dawn. "My father has a reason to want to keep those two safe, but why? He isn't that charitable, there's more to the story than what he's telling us." And it was going to really really bug him.

Rigel went out to the main room, looking to the pair "Need any help finding the room again?" He asked softly.

"Weird or not, it's not polite to call others weird. " Dawn said and reached for the tablet "Want to watch a movie, or would you rather play a game?"

Esk shrugged. "I call you wierd all the time. You never complained." He didn't get it. Why was she getting wierd and protective all of a sudden?
"Oh, I actually got a hold of popcorn this time."

Ivor nodded. "I.. i'm sorry... "

James smiled at Ivor. "It's okay, man. You'll get used to this ship, but it's always okay to ask for directions. He started leading the way back toward their room.

Ivor looked uncertain. "You're a robot aren't you." Ivor asked James. He looked simultaneously curious and wary.

Silence was trying to get her bearings.

"Yeah, I'm a robot," James said. He was tempted to make some quip about not being a dangerous killer robot, but decided this audience might not be ready for that. "That's why my mind's silent to you guys," he said instead.

"Why do... you look like a person?" Ivor asked. Hytar didn't employ androids and previously he'd had a pretty dang sheltered existence.

"Terrans like their robots humanoid, makes us look more friendly," James said. "Shiny metal robots are cool, but they're kinda intimidating, you know?"
