Skye nodded and smiled a little "It's a little scary though, when you only see your own kind then see a city with the others."

"Plants are highly bullet-resistant, apparently," Ethan said. "No centralized nervous system, I think it was. He complains about his leaves wilting a lot, but he doesn't mind bullets all that much." He nodded.

Silence nodded slowly. "Fire."

Hewitt practically bristled. "i think you'll find most things are susceptible to fire."

Silence looked amused. "Doesn't like feeling vulnerable."

"Who does?" Hewitt countered haughtily.

"Funny old man." Silence smiled a weird not quite authentic smile.

Ethan shook his head. "He's right, most of us would agree that fire sucks." His skin might be fire resistant, but it'd still melt and burn if you applied enough heat to it, which he knew from bitter experience. "Green plants don't burn that easily anyway, do they?"

"succulents don't burn too well no." Hewitt nodded. "too much water inside."

"Then you have nothing to worry about," Ethan said. "You're no more flammable than any other flammable being."

Hewitt made a hrumph noise.

Silence looked amused.

Ethan snorted at Hewitt's disapproval. "I should get going. I'd like to see at least one other person at this party, so James can't accuse me of being bad at parties."

"You've spoken to two people, that's more than sociable if you ask me." Hewitt scoffed.

Silence smiled her funny forced smile. "is that point of par tee?"

Matt considered that, wracking his brain for country music. Hmm. "I know some Dolly Parton?" He suggested. "is that country?"

Starr chuckled and nodded "It is, if you can play it, I will sing."

Ethan snickered at Hewitt. "And there I was thinking you were such a sociable person." He nodded, "Parties are about talking to too many people, and eating snacks, if you can eat. Sometimes dancing, if you have no dignity."

Ellie looked thrilled. She so wanted to hear the queen of dragons sing!

James also looked curious. Moriah stood back a little, she wasn't super knowledgeable on country music.

Matt grinned. "You'll sing? Oh you are ON!" Hey, he'd never heard Starr sing, this sounded like it'd be great fun. He looked to James and Ellie for one of them to hand over their mic before starting up the opening for Jolene. Hopefully Starr knew the words, heh.

"What's dignity?" Silence asked. It wasn't clear if she genuinely had no idea or was teasing him.

"apparently it's also about singing in front of a whole room." Hewitt remarked dryly, nodding toward Starr.

James handed the mic to Starr. "Have fun! I'll have to tell Asher he missed out on this."

"Dignity is when you don't want to make a fool of yourself," Ethan said. Definitely an oversimplification, but he figured Silence probably didn't care that much. "Dignity is something many people on this ship lack, and that's why they sing and dance." He eyed the growing group on the stage.

"They're happy." Silence remarked.

Hewitt laughed. "yes, simple things amuse simple minds."

Starr took the mic and smiled at the beginning notes of the song. It was one she knew well, so she started to sing along to his playing.

Ethan shook his head. "Well if it makes them happy, I suppose they can have their fun." HE wasn't going to sing, though.

James would try to harmonize with Starr, even though he didn't know the song and he didn't have a mic so he was probably barely audible. Oh well, it was the thought that counted, right?

Starr sang well, ending the song and bowing her head before looking back to the others with a smile again. "Thank you, that was fun."

Moriah clapped.

James grinned at Starr. "If you hadn't been an assassin queen, you'd totally be a country singer. The genre needs you, Starr!"

Matt played well, or as well as you could play a primarily guitar song on a piano. He clapped when Starr finished. "that, was an honor." He told her, though the way he was grinning suggested he wasn't being totally sincere. Then again, when was Matt ever sincere when he didn't need to be?

Hewitt rolled his eyes. "what happened to 'I must socialise with other people'?" He asked Ethan.

"I was getting to that," Ethan said grumpily. He muttered something under his breath, then looked around for someone else to talk to. Hmm, maybe Esk if he was still here and free.

Esk was currently in the kitchen, far from the party if he could help it. He wasn't about to get dragged into that idiocy, especially not when he was still sleep deprived.

Silence raised one hand and awkwardly moved her fingers in some sort of imitation of a wave as Ethan wandered off.

Hewitt regarded her suspiciously and moved away under the pretense of talking to Amity.

Ethan didn't spot Esk. Darn. If he spotted Luka, he'd head over to talk to her instead. He had something he wanted to ask her about, and she seemed like a nice enough person.

Luka looked up as Ethan approached, looking momentarily a little startled. Why was he coming over here? She forced a polite smile. "hi?"

"Hi," Ethan said. He looked kind of awkward, he really didn't know Luka very well after all. "I was wondering something."

Luka frowned slightly. "What?" She asked suspiciously.

Starr thanked them, laughing softly. "I like singing when I get the chance to."

"Well maybe we should get together for stuff like this more often." matt suggested.
