Melanoc Lunar Colony: Chapter Two

"I guess so, but what can a kid do here?" Danika asked curiously.

Jarral looked uncertain. "Perhaps we should check... " He didn't want to do anything that wasn't to standard.

Danika shrugged and looked up "We can."

Jarral nodded and led the way back to the attic

Danika followed him happily enough to see if he had dusted and swept while organizing the boxes.

While sorting the boxes most of the dust had been disturbed anyway, and he had swept a fair bit of it away but there was probably still actual dusting to be done. He wasn't much used to ceiling beams or floorboards where dust could gather, and he hadn't been able to stack the boxes as they had been, he just wasn't strong enough to lift the heavier ones so he'd dragged them all into one corner and pushed them against one another instead. It looked a lot less precarious now.

Danika looked around a little then went to get a duster, flying up to get the dust off the ceiling beams as her dragon form.

Jarral watched Danika for a short while, unable to not be absolutely distracted by the tiny, sparkling thing darting around the place.
He finally managed to stop staring and found a broom to finish sweeping.

Danika finished dusting up high and landed on a box, watching him again.

"Do you prefer being small?" Jarral asked her, sweeping slowly.

"Being small is good sometimes, other times being big is better." Danika said truthfully and moved to the floor to shift back. "I like that I can choose what size I want to be at any time."

Jarral nodded. "Is it not very... disorienting?" He asked curiously.

"It can be, but not often. The first few times were, because I was so much taller." Danika replied

Jarral looked thoughtful. "Can you be anything?"

"Only if I study that form a while." Danika said with a shrug.

"How... close to the real creature do you become? Do you gain their abilities? their strengths and weaknesses?" Jarral was facinated by this, leaning on the broom handle as he spoke, for the moment giving up on sweeping.

Danika frowned in thought at that question. "We become the other form, that's why we have to know about them before we can become them. Like, if I look like dad and go to a place he can't breath, I won't be able to breath and will be forced back to my dragon shape. Or getting cut, the only place I can get cut in my dragon shape is my wings, but in other forms I am able to be cut just as they are, but we are still stronger than the other forms. We can lift more and have more en-endurance than they normally would." She was probably repeating that info from what she had learned from Starr before coming here.

Jarral nodded, apparently satisfied with that. he went back to sweeping. Long conversations weren't really his forte.

Danika smiled and went back to helping to clean.
