Star Dragon

star dragons live an average of 1000 years, reaching full maturity at 200 years. At 1 week of age they are like a human 5 year old in mentality, at a month old, they are the equivilent of a 10 year old. They seem to hold at that, their age becoming more relavent to their physical age.

All Star Dragons are capable of shapeshifting into any creature they have seen and studied. The deeper the study, the better they become at blending into the target species. Star dragon males can only produce children with star dragon females or a species that would normally lay eggs to reproduce, though the females can produce eggs with another species if they assume that shape. The children of such unions would only be half star dragon, weaker in arcana than a pure breed.


They have the ability to use magic, though with most it is just what they need to tend to the stars and keep the galaxies from falling apart. There are some that have different magics and choose to study the magic of other races to become proficient with them. These are few, usually less than 5 out of 100. 


Most of the species had been killed or enslaved, leaving some to believe that there are no free Star Dragons left in the universe. 


They are very powerful beings, but they have a weakness for needing to help others, this is how so many were captured and forced into slavery. 


Most Star Dragons stand at only 3 feet in height, with all four legs on the ground. The tallest one in recorded history was 5 foot tall and the shortest at 2 foot when grown. Their wingspan is relative to their body length, but easily folded away to be held against their backs. 


They are all shades of purple and blue with light patterns that look like the stars they live on and around.


They do not need to breath oxygen in their natural forms, but they do when taking a form that requires that to live.  Likewise if they became a sea creature, they would require the water to survive. But it is in their nature to shift to their natural form when their life is threatened in such a way, revealing who and what they are. 
Immune to fire attacks, though weak to electric attacks


When they shift, it has to be to a creature that identifies as the same gender, making it impossible to become a being that has no gender.


When they lay their eggs, they lay 3 at one time, though usually only one or two hatch. In captivity only one hatches. They hatch after 90 days. The eggs are initially soft, but harden and darken within minutes. They measure around 4 in × 3 in

There has never been a recorded case of a hatching dragon without an arcana signature. No one would know what would happen to such a hatchling or if it could survive at all.

Star dragon babies are mostly self reliant, able to eat and walk within the first month, including the halfling children. Most of the time they would grow at the same rate as the other species until they reach adulthood, then they would seem to stop aging. They can start shifting after two months of age, if they can study a species enough by then.

Star dragons can choose if they are going to lay eggs to hatch out. The males can even choose to give females of another species the eggs to lay to have halfling children. To do this they have to be raised as a star dragon, since this is secret information and they don't want the humans or other species to know.

Star dragons can choose to have one hatchling or two from their clutch, though it is uncertain how this is chosen, since it is not a conscious choice. When it is safe and they are not stressed in any way, they have two, when they are scared or stressed, they only have one.

The third egg was an evolutionary development from a long ago time when they were hunted by predators on their home world, they could take the healthy eggs and leave the other to distract the hunter while they got away. They had since destroyed that predator and the meaning faded out of memory.

Full blooded star dragons are natural shapeshifters, while half bloods requite the magic to change shapes unless helped by another star dragon.


*Alcohol and the dragon*
Most 'light' alcohol (like beer) is easily and quickly metabolized. They cannot get drunk from it.

"heavy" alcohol (Like vodka and whiskey) can make them drunk, though usually only lasts an hour at most from the time they stop drinking.

When a dragon gets drunk, they react like most other species in various ways, but anger is the most common reaction.They can focus on one thing to be angry at or let he anger be at anyone around them. If you become the target of that anger, you should hope that something distracts the dragon from you or it will continue to attack

One created them, though that one was part of a group of others. The first star dragon worked with the Weaver and two others (what were they?) to create the universe as it is known. They didn't name this creator, some believing that they created themselves as well as the universe these days.



Holidays:
There are four major holidays that coincide with the changing seasons. The minor holidays between them

(1) Candle Feast -longest night/ winter to spring (exchange gifts and be with family) It's a holiday with undiscovered roots, but today it is mostly associated with preparing big feasts, watching special shows, homemade gifts and rights of passage. It is officially celebrated for five days, but decorations often stay around for weeks after the celebrations.

(2) Festival Of Lakes- spring to summer It's a holiday with age-old roots, but today it is mostly associated with scavenger hunts, telling jokes, traditional hair styling, celebrating imagination, holiday treats, fireworks and group games. It is officially celebrated for three days, but decorations and festivities are often found well before and after that time as well.

Festival of Books- It's a holiday with undiscovered roots, but today it is mostly associated with celebrating imagination, reading, coming of age rituals, night walks, secret gift giving and traditional dances.

(3) Light Day- longest day summer to fall.  Light Day is celebrated with great expectations. It's a holiday with archaic roots, but today it is mostly associated with romantic gestures, preparing big feasts, night walks and secret gift giving. It is officially celebrated for one day, but this holiday ties in closely with another, so festivities continue for a much longer time.

Festival of Rest is celebrated with pure delight. It's a holiday with divine roots, but today it is mostly associated with holiday related drinks, outdoor food parties, playing pranks and preparing big feasts. It is officially celebrated for twelve days, but the closing celebrations are what everybody looks forward to the most.

(4) Feast Of Dragons- fall to winter (only day when outsiders are not welcome to join in)It's a holiday with seemingly ancient roots, but today it is mostly associated with rights of passage, acts of courage, humility, creating charity gift baskets and playing with pets.

Every year the Festival of Elders is celebrated with high hopes. It's a holiday with spiritual roots, but today it is mostly associated with neighborhood parties, going out for dinner, self discovery and holiday treats.
It is officially celebrated for three days, but another holiday starts soon after this one ends, resulting in a much longer period of festivities. (before Candle feast)

Every 2 years the Festival of Folklore is celebrated with much joy. It's a holiday with time lost roots, but today it is mostly associated with bonding with friends, dance parties, humility and telling of stories.
It is officially celebrated for eight days, but many people will celebrate it longer by starting earlier and ending later.

Every 2 years the Festival of Gods is celebrated with much bewilderment. It's a holiday with untold roots, but today it is mostly associated with celebrating imagination, playing instruments, playing board games,  holiday treats, traditional hair styling and dance parties. It is officially celebrated for two days, but it often continues well after that time as well.

Star dragons have been friends with the Vavare since their worlds were created, though they drifted apart more as time wore on and the universe seemed to expand more. At one time it was tradition to have all the royal clothes made by the Vavare to fit the form most favored by the individual king or queen at the time.

It is a cultural norm to always address elders with respect, even when arguing with them, just as most address the royalty by their title unless given permission to be less formal. Most who have mastered their craft are also referred to as their station as a mark of respect. Like a master tailor being called Master-Tailor, or blacksmith being called Master-Blacksmith, ect.


It is taboo to purposely make yourself look exactly like another person, especially for the purpose of fooling another or getting one in trouble.

From the Guild's books:

The books would tell basically what Starr had told them, the eating meat only for the first few days then the addition of fruits and veggies starting on the third day. That they would need daily bathing or an oil bath to keep their scales from cracking from the quick growth they had the first month at least, then a bath every other day or so after that, though they would be old enough by then to do so for themselves.

It would tell them that the imprinting was a permanent thing, based most on first sight and secondly on psychic strength. Since there were no star dragons without psychic powers, there was no info on if they imprinted on those that were 'silent' like that. In fact the only mention of a dragon being raised by a 'silent' being resulted in the infant's death from refusal to eat, and that would be in the book written by the slaves.

The books would tell them that in ancient times, the blood from a kill was enough liquid in the infant's diet, but in modern times, they had to learn to drink water in addition to the meat they needed for growth since most meat in modern times was cooked instead of raw.

The books would tell them that Frankincense, from Terra was actually the best oil to use if the infant couldn't be bathed daily since there was no fauna that had survived after the planet was destroyed.

They would learn that the first shift, right at an average of one month of age would be to the most common form taken by the parent and would be spontaneous, resulting in a child that *in Terrans* looked to be about 10 years of age. There was a special note in the slaves' book about other species appearing younger than that.

The second parent was seen the same as the first, though they didn't imprint as strongly on that one. The infants would eat and interact the same for the most part, though they would always prefer the one they saw first upon hatching, even if that one happened to be the male of the pair.

Some males in their culture only stayed around for that one month, moving on once the babies were old enough to take care of themselves but providing food for the babies and the mother during that time. The only time that was different was the few times that the female was not there for the hatching, where the infant would stay with the father more than the mother even as they aged.

They learned from both and would accept food and love from both parents.

a dragon could be raised by non-dragons if they were psychic and had some basic knowledge of the dragons. Though if raised away from their kind, they lacked some knowledge that was taught directly from parent to child.
