Good Cop Bad Cop: Chapter One

One week. Asher has to be mean, Kay has to be nice. Whoever gives up first has to write a story for the winner. Should be... interesting.

Kay looked to Asher, he had a feeling he knew why Asher hated Merith acting in that manner, but he also didn't really WANT to confirm that suspicion, it wasn't something he liked to have to think about. That was selfish wasn't it?
He sighed and patted Asher on the shoulder. [I'll mention it to Starr when I next see her then, i'm sure she'll have some ideas. She usually does. ]

Asher saw no reason to confirm any suspicions Kay had, although he felt pretty certain that Kay had figured it out, because it was so not something he had any desire to think about himself. Best to keep it all nice and safely unspoken.
He smiled slightly. "That sounds good. I'm sure she can think of something that would help."

Kay nodded and rested his head on Asher's shoulder. He couldn't really stay mad at him knowing how frustrated he was by all this as well. Merith seemed to know exactly how to manipulate both of them, and it was awful.
Yes, he decided, he really DID hate that man.

[I suppose this means the bet is off or does Merith count as one of those wildcards?]

Asher relaxed a bit as Kay leaned against him. He was pretty sure that meant he was at least sort of forgiven for what had happened earlier, which was nice.
"I don't know," he said, laughing softly, "We can call it a draw, or we can continue and say Merith didn't count."

[I'm not sure I have the strength to continue. I still want to throttle both my brothers. ] Kay admitted. [A draw sounds nice. ] He closed his eyes, listening to the sounds Asher made, they relaxed him, which was good when you were this stressed.

"A draw it is then," Asher said. "Let's say that I'm terrible at your job, and you're bad at mine, and we should never try this again." He added quietly, "Maybe we should have James and Dawn act as medics tomorrow. I know I could use some time to relax after that week."

Kay nodded vuagely. [James has been trying to little too hard to avoid medical duty, maybe it's time he did some work. ] He looked up at Asher, not taking his head off his shoulder. [You are a terrible absolutely awful bad cop.] He teased.

"He's a terribly lazy man," Asher agreed, trying to look disapproving. "Some work will be good for him. And Dawn is nice, I'm sure she won't mind if I ask nicely."
He smiled self deprecatingly. "I'm the worst bad cop I've ever met. It's kind of impressive."

Kay's smile broadened a little. [I am very impressed. But not overly disappointed, if we were both grumpy and over serious I don't think we'd survive more than a few hours in this place. ] Truthfully he needed Asher's light, happy, positive attitude to counteract his own grey cloud of impatience and negativity. [I like you being the good guy. It suits you.]

Asher would have blushed if he could. That was just a really nice thing to have someone say to you. He smiled warmly at Kay, "That was one of the first things I really admired about you too. How you got everyone to stop goofing off in the med bay so that we could actually work. I was a bit awed."

Kay looked suddenly coy and shook his head. [I worked in a military hospital Asher, there's no time for bedside manner and certainly no time for goofing off. I forget that these people aren't soldiers, and don't necessarily need to have authority asserted over them.] He smiled shyly [Some of them really do deserve it though.] Awed? really?

"Well they kind of do need authority asserted. I was too nice to them before you joined Vestia, and it was constant chaos and frustration in the med bay." Asher looked amused, "I was still pretty shy at that point, so someone who was actually able and willing to tell people off was nice."

Kay smiled softly. [How time flies. It's funny, it doesn't seem that long ago we first came aboard but so much has happened since. ]

"So much. It's certainly been a unique experience," Asher said. He hesitantly put his arm around Kay. "Thankfully not an entirely bad one."

Kay let him put his arm around him, snuggling back into Asher. [No, at least some good has come for it all. ] He idly wondered what they'd have said all that time ago had they been told they'd be here, now, cuddling up together. He doubted either of them would have believed it at all possible.

TIMESKIP - DAY FIVE

With Kay and Asher taking a day off, it was up to Dawn and James to act as medics if they were needed. Darn it.

James prowled into the med bay in the morning and sat on the desk, sulkily looking through paperwork. He so needed to buy a tablet sometime.

Dawn came in and smiled at James before moving to get herself familiar with where everything was. Asher and Kay liked to reorganize a little too much for her tastes.

"Hey Dawn," James said, looking up as she came in, "Excited to be on duty?" He picked up some papers and read them briefly, rolled his eyes, and set them back down, "Man, what even happened to those two? They're just gone!"

Dawn looked over to James and smiled again "A little, hey James, come here, look what they wrote on here" She said, trying to stifle a giggle at one of the labels. "I have been in the library studying a lot, so I am a bit excited."

James came over to have a look at the label, and snorted. "Those guys." He smiled, "Guess we'll need to figure out what everything is in here, or all your knowledge will be useless cause we can't figure out what things are."

Dawn chuckled and nodded before starting to check in drawers instead of just looking at labels. "yeah, they must be trying to prank one another or something."

"I think it's their idea of a date," James said. "Writing dumb labels and giggling together like highschoolers." He looked at the bottles carefully to see what their actual contents were, so he could find them quickly when they were needed.

Dawn shook her head and glanced to him then the drawers again "A date is writing snarky, but funny labels? Those two should get out more"

James laughed. "They're strange guys. Maybe they do that because Asher can't eat so restaurant dates are awkward? I dunno." He looked through the shelves busily.

Dawn tilted her head then shook it again "Eating isn't the only kind of date, they could go and read to one another or go for walks on the holodeck or watch movies or play games, there's plenty of date choices they could make. This, this seems more like a joke to me."

James considered that. "Maybe you're right. I dunno, I've never been on a date."

Dawn paused and looked to him with a frown "Well, maybe you should find someone you like and try it." She suggested then shrugged a little "I haven't actually gone on one either, but I do read about them sometimes."
