Matt laughed. "if she gets too drunk to walk, maybe we can put her on my lap and you can wheel us both home." he suggested. He ordered another beer.

"That's ADORABLE. I'm so down for riding home in your lap," Ellie said. She ordered a bright blue cocktail next. Who knew what was in it, but she liked the color. "And Shane can get us both home safely cause he's so strong and cute." She nodded.

Shane chuckled and nodded "True, one good thing about a wheelchair" He agreed.

"Horay for Shane!" Matt cheered.

The drinks arrived, and Ellie happily sipped her blue one through its twisty straw. "It's too bad I can't have you both as my boyfriends. You're both so useful."

Shane shook his head then chuckled.

Matt chuckled. "I'll always be your friend who happens to be a boy at least. It's almost as good."

"Yeah, that's pretty good too. But you can't use your friends as pack horses as much," Ellie said. She was seriously getting drunk now. "They can just leave."

Shane watched her then looked to Matt "Yeah, that algae stuff is so going on the do not drink, it's too strong list."

"It's not that strong, and it tastes super good," Ellie said, "Really, man!" She drank some more of her blue drink.

Matt laughed. "You're either lying, or have really messed up taste buds." He shrugged. "Okay what about surrogate family then? Family's gotta put up with everything too."

"That's true enough, and we are all kind of adopted family to one another." Shane said then shrugged again.

"Okay," Ellie said, "that works. I like surrogate family. I never had a brother before, so this could be good." She nodded sagely. "Now it sounds weird that I wished you were my boyfriend though."

Matt laughed again. "Hey it's fine, we're not really related. We're like.. this big super screwed up extended family or something right?" He smiled. "Our foster mother used to say that family was what you made of it and had nothing to do with blood. "

"Well yeah, I guess so. Dating family is still freaky as heck though. You can't date your first cousins, first cousins once removed, aunts and uncles, or grandparents where I come from," Ellie said. "But maybe adopted families that aren't adopted by law are different." She hiccuped suddenly. "Whoops."

Matt shrugged. "No idea. I don't have any cousins... and the only aunt we have wanted nothing to do with us when we were kids, wouldn't want anything to do with us now. Screw her." He made a face. "No grandparents either. Damn... the only blood relatives I have are my brother and sister." That was depressing. He swigged his beer. "I definitely don't wanna sleep with them." Ew

"Oh gross, you so don't want that," Ellie agreed. "Or your not-blood siblings. Stick with people who aren't related or I'll be grossed out."

"He already has someone" Shane reminded as he looked from one to the other.

Matt nodded. "true that." He grinned to Ellie. "Don't worry, i'm not gonna start sleeping with blood relatives, that's just weird. We'll leave that sorta thing to Armin." Yeah that spider dude was a little TOO liberal, even for someone as liberal as Matt. Eugh, sleeping with siblings, gross.

Ellie burst into giggles. "Oh yeah. There's the girlfriend. I forgot sorta." More giggles. "Being a vavare most be so weird."

"guess they're used to it. They probably find us super weird" Matt reasoned.

"Probably" Shane agreed, sipping his water

"Yeah, maybe," Ellie snickered. "Do you think they think chewing things is weird? And having rooms? And can they get drunk?"

Shane just shrugged at the questions, they weren't things he had asked about when he had been talking to Armin after they met. "Tehy do the blended up stuff on ships because it's the simplest way to eat with a mask on." He reminded.

"Yeah didn't he say something about it grossing people out to spit on your food before you ate it?" Matt tried to remember. Man, he really hadn't talked to Armin that much. "Maybe you could ask him." He chuckled. "He seems pretty cool about answering weird questions."

"Yeah, we totally need to ask. Spitting on food before eating it IS pretty gross," Ellie said. "Spider people, man."

Shane nodded then glanced around "Yeah, I didn't think it was something to say in a public place though. You two want to head back before we have to carry anyone?"
