Smartship

A catch-all term for any ship that self-pilots and communicates with the crew as a sapient entity. This includes AI-piloted ships, living beings wired into ship "shells", and organic/techno-organic ship species.

Bioship: Ship species that are mainly organic in structure, augmented with technology to better suit their occupants. Many grow throughout their lives, becoming incredibly vast in size as centuries elapse. Vestia is one of these.

AI Ship: Ordinary spaceships that have an advanced AI autopilot/assistant installed, allowing the ship (more accurately, the intelligence that controls the ship) to talk and interact with its crew.

Brainship: Any organic, sapient entity which has been linked into a spaceship shell through a brain-computer interface, enabling them to act as if the ship is their body. The most controversial type of smartship, since it's often questionable whether the ship's brain consented to the procedure at all.
