Starr's Shuttle, Pegasus

Nova nodded and tried to smile again. This was really hard without being able to hear the others. She knew all the kids on Vestia would be scared.

Asher and Nova would probably just sit in silence for a while, hoping. Their friends and families were in there, they had to be okay. Right?

Nova sighed after a while and looked to Asher with a smile "I can hear them again"

Asher brightened at the news. "Can we teleport to them, then?" he asked hopefully. Oh, he wanted to go help them out and make sure they were okay.

"We can try" Nova agreed, though they wouldn't be able to.

"Let's do it, then," Asher said. He'd fidget a little, letting Nova activate the spell since she was the expert on this.

Nova tried to teleport them closer, but they didn't move. She frowned and shook her head. "Why didn't it work?"

Asher frowned. "It should have, shouldn't it? I mean, if you can hear the others then the magic jammer must be down." He looked worried.

They couldn't tell from here that the teleporting stone had been flung out into space during one of the attacks, making its safeguards kick in to prevent anyone from being stranded somewhere in vacuum. Nova might be able to guess of course, since she'd created the stones, but there might not be an obvious way to tell for sure that that was what had happened.

"It should have, unless the other stone is in an unsafe place." Nova said uncertainly.

"That wouldn't happen, would it?" Asher frowned, imagining the sort of catastrophic ship failures that could trigger the safeguards on Nova's teleporting stones. Oh God, what had happened over there?! "Is there anyone you can ask about what's happening?"

"Starr is busy but alive. They had a big battle and some floors were damaged." Nova said, getting rather chaotic reports from some other dragons.

Asher nodded grimly. "Must have been a terrible battle. I'm glad Starr's alive." Who knew if anyone else was, but if Starr and Vestia were, then that was a start at least.

Nova nodded then sighed and shook her head "It's a bit chaotic right now, but they won." She said "We will just have to take the long way back from here."

Asher smiled a little. "Well that's good news. I guess we don't need to rush so much then."

At which point, the scanners they had trained on Vestia flashed a huge power surge, and then lost sight of her entirely. The spot in space where she had been a moment before was empty.

Nova flinched then stood up, looking at the scanner then touching her temple. "What happened? Where did they go? They are all gone?" She frowned and shook her head again "Not gone, not entirely."

"Gone?!" Asher stared at the screen incredulously. They couldn't be gone, they had just won! Right? "You can sense them still?" he asked Nova, although his eyes were still on the sensor readouts from the shuttle.

"Not fully, I can't talk to them or hear their words, but I can tell they are alive." Nova said with a frown still. "I don't understand this, it's like they are there and not there, maybe another dimension or something?"

"That's not possible," Asher said weakly, even though he knew perfectly well that it was. "They have to be here. Somewhere."

Nova looked to Asher worriedly then shook her head again "What should we do? Should we try to get the kids or go try to investigate? She asked. She didn't know, this was a new experience.

Asher kind of wanted to make Nova decide, but he also realized that yeah, deciding was kind of his job right now. He'd been on Vestia longer, the kids were his family, and anyway, he was also adopted prince of the star dragons.

Time to be decisive, then.

"We should go investigate," he decided. "The kids and Thalia won't make it to the station for another couple weeks if my estimation is correct, we can get there before they do." He frowned. It could be dangerous though, hmm. "We'll avoid getting too close if the slavers are still there though, and keep our cloaking up. We don't want to get captured."

Nova nodded, glad he could think straight enough to make a decision. She sat in the pilot's seat again, doing as he said and keeping them on track to where Vestia had been.
