UPON VESTIA: CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

Ethan nodded. "I guess that makes sense. Do they execute the ruler, or do they have to keep them alive?" He probably had too many questions.

"Oh, I know that feeling," Vestia said sympathetically. She watched Amari snooze. Aww.

Marcus would open the door and softly shut it behind him. "He refuses to speak common around me because he 'views' me as a master; and since his previous masters beat him for speaking it he scared of a repeat..." the strain in his voice was pain, Marcus could take being called a slaver, beaten or worse. He couldn't handle his own chils viewing him as a Master.

Asher frowned. That poor kid. "How do you know?" he asked quietly.

"His old master bragged about it." Marcus hisses through gritted teeth. "I couldn't punch the guy without risking loosing the sale to buy him... he spoke common to the others that traveled with me but never around me.."

"I see." Asher glanced toward the door, looking grim. That was... so, so wrong. "You think he might talk to me if you weren't there?"

"Most likely." He nodded, pausing. "Amari has taken quiet, a liking to you.. frankly I'm a bit jealous as I know he won't ever give it towards me but I don't blame him. While I cannot wait to part ways I do not want to see what happens when he realize he cannot return."

Asher nodded. "I'd like to talk to him, if you don't have any objections," he said.

"None at all, I'll sit out here if Vestia okay with it." Marcus said.

"Okay by me," Vestia said.

Asher smiled softly, and knocked on the door to the room again. "Amari, can I come in?"

Amari cocked his head and hopped his way to the door using his tail to open it before dashing to the bed again.

Asher wheeled into the room, and pushed the door closed behind him. "Hello again. I hope you don't mind that I left Marcus outside," he said, smiling. There was some pain in his eyes, but he hid it pretty well.

Amari listen with a pause before shakingly speaking in a heavily accented common, "T-that okay."

Asher looked startled. He really hadn't expected Amari to actually speak to him. "I didn't know you could speak common as well as understand it," he said, smiling more genuinely this time.

"N-not hard to mimic... but technically forbidden." He coiled his tail around him, specially his missing leg. That was the remindse his master gave him the last time he spoke it.

"It's not forbidden here," Asher said gently. "Vestia wouldn't let anyone stop you from talking if you want to talk, and neither will I." Yeah, he could imagine Vestia yelling at anyone who tried to silence someone, and tossing them in the brig.

Amari fevertly shook his head, "L-lost leg last time... d-don't want to loose something else." His voice was rather child like, naive and shy.

Asher looked away for a moment to hide the surge of rage he felt at those words, then looked at Amari again once he'd gotten his emotions under control. "Okay. You never have to talk if you don't feel safe talking."

He nodded, cocking his head. "O-okay... y-you are nice, smell funny at first but nice."

Asher managed a laugh at that. "I'm glad you think so. And hopefully I don't smell too odd."

"No, just... metallic." He admitted sheepishly, "you a android? Last person I met smelt like that called herself that. She was nice too." He slightly blush then frowned, "Taunt me better common, when Master learned she went away.."

"Yes, I'm an android," Asher said, nodding. "She sounds like a good person. I'm glad you got to meet her."

He nodded, then adding softly, "I miss her.." it was clear he had some strong attachment to the droid.

Asher nodded. "I'm sorry. It's hard to lose someone who's been kind to you." He knew what it was like to lose someone who had treated you well in a world where most people didn't. It was awful.

He nodded, "She managed to give me pictures of my mother, before master took them away." He rubbed his arm.

Asher didn't know what to say to that. Poor kid. "That was kind of her," he said finally. "I'm sorry about your mother though."

He shrugged, looking away, "Don't remember much of her." He had a detached sound in his voice of someone that had train himself to not appear caring. He shook his head focusing on Asher, before asking shyly. "Is this my new cage? Master really hasn't said..." he was refering to marcus.

"I guess it's sort of like a cage," Asher said. "I hope it's not too uncomfortable at least."

"Much nicer then my last one, is it perament?" Amari innocently ask with a hopeful look, "this one doesn't have those nasty bottles.." he was refering to the evil bubble bath.
