Upon Silver Devil: Chapter Four

Dawn would be alright, she just got bored laying there alone and without a project to do.

"Get some rest, Luka" Rigel said, looking back to her, prepared to take her place.

James led the way to the kitchen, and started opening cabinets. "Pick up whatever you like," he said. "I don't know what your guys prefer. Honestly, I don't know much of anything about food, so don't trust me." He grinned.

Luka smiled. "I will." but first, she wanted to look in on Dawn.
She left Rigel to flying and headed to her room to pick up some books she thought Dawn might find mildly distracting.

Silence looked at the food, studying a lot of it in bewilderment. Hytar's home had a lot of food sure, but she'd never really gone into the kitchens and it was all prepared for them. She wasn't much used to seeing stuff in packaging and wasn't sure what most of it even WAS.

"Do you guys like cereal? We have it in hot and cold types," James said. "Or there's eggs and toast if you prefer." He snooped around the kitchen curiously.

Dawn was finishing her breakfast that Esk had brought and set the bowl on the table beside the bed.

Luka knocked on the door frame and peered into the room. "Hope i'm not interrupting."

Esk glanced over at Luka. "Nope."
He took the bowl and used this as an excuse to get outta here.

Luka gave him a wide berth as he passed her.

Silence pulled down a few boxes of cereal and sniffed at the contents.

James watched her curiously, then went to get out the milk. He was kind of just pulling things out for the fun of it by now, oh dear.

"Hi Luka" Dawn said, smiling at her as Esk took off.

Luka smiled to Dawn. "Just coming to see how you're doing. I brought you some books in case you were bored." She held them up.

Dawn chuckled and nodded "Thank you. I find I make a not so good patient when it comes to patience."

Luka chuckled. "I don't think any of us are good patients." She found a seat, putting the books on the table beside Dawn. "Is Esk a decent nurse?" She was curious okay? She couldn't imagine him having any bedside manner. Kinda like his bitchy brother.

Dawn nodded and chuckled softly, though she felt that. "Yes, he makes sure I don't get up to go after food or anything like that, and he sits and watches movies with me."

"He's a weird guy." Luka shook her head. "I doubt he'd do that for anyone else. I dunno, you're.. special I guess." She laughed awkwardly.

Dawn smiled then shrugged lightly "I like him and treat him like just another friend. I guess he likes that."

Luka nodded, trying to hide that knowing smirk on her face. "You feeling any better?" She asked.

Dawn nodded "Yeah, I son't feel it much except when I laugh, but the pain meds make me sleepy."

Luka nodded sympathetically. "Yeah, they do that." She smiled softly. "want me to leave you to rest then?"

Silence found something she thought smelled edible and put it to one side, picking up another few things James offered to sniff at those and taste test them.

Esk wandered in with the tray to wash, shot them both a wierd look and said nothing, going to clean the bowl and cutlery.

James watched Silence's investigation, offering her various foods to sniff and sample. He grinned when Esk came in. "Hey man, we're testing out food. Well, Silence is testing it, I'm just wishing I could join in. Wanna help out?"

"Testing food?" Esk looked suspicious.

Silence glanced at him, tilting her head.

"No." Esk decided, turning back to the dish washing.

"She wants to see what our well stocked and excellent quality kitchen has to offer," James said. "She needs to explore the options, you know, to be a well informed passenger on the Silver Devil. As a guy with taste buds, you could totally help us." He nodded sagely.

"You don't have to, unless you want to rest up." Dawn said gently. She knew Luka was the main pilot for them.

Esk looked skeptical. "She seems to be doing fine on her own. Just don't touch the popcorn."

Silence stared at him, she had no idea what popcorn even was.

Esk sighed and went to pull a bag out of the cupboard, waving it in Silence's face. "this."

Silence frowned. A little bag of unpopped corn didn't look overly appatising. She nodded slowly.

"Why doesn't she talk?" Esk complained.

Luka smiled softly. "I should sleep, but i'll be back to visit okay?"

Dawn smiled in return and nodded "Alright, see you later."

"Popcorn is really neat stuff," James said. "You microwave it, and it fluffs up and supposedly tastes good." He grinned at Esk, "Maybe she just doesn't like talking to people who hog the popcorn. No, but seriously, apparently shifters don't really do verbal talking." He nodded.

Esk grunted. "weird."

Silence shook her head and went back to examining a cookie. She licked it, looked unimpressed and tried to put it back.

"No don't put it back!" Esk snapped. "that's disgusting."

Silence hesitated, looked at the cookie, then offered it to Esk.

Esk looked disgusted and backed away. "no way, i'm not eating that after you licked it."

Silence frowned, then put it into her pocket instead.

James laughed. "It's just spit, Esk. Every organic has it. Heck, even I have it. You could totally eat that cookie." He smiled at Silence, "Are you not into sweet foods, or is that just a lame cookie?"

"Who knows what she might be carrying." Esk protested. "it's gross. You wanna eat spit covered food, go ahead."

Silence shrugged, she wasn't entirely sure.

"Can she not write or sign or ANYTHING useful?" Esk complained.

Silence looked at him.

"No, stay outta my head." Esk glared.

Silence nodded and shrugged.

"Well this is gonna be fucking annoying." Esk muttered.
