Refuge Sector: "Redwood"

Of the many different creatures the Guild takes in, they establish sections of territory and shape them to fit the needs of the residents living it. Sector Redwood was no different in this element. With towering trees that shared the namesake, and the sky a piercing blue-gray thanks to the artificial atmospheric bubble of safety, the Followers had made a decent home of it, with stones and roots making dens for the mothers and kits while the Elite stood guard and patrolled. What was more interesting, though, was perhaps their own guidance. Before, Inari had been the one to establish regulation and order, but oddly enough, the creatures have adapted well, making a well-kept and close-knit community among each other, working together to make an ease of living. And unlike the Inari-bound realm, seemed to suddenly be less... uniform, as if each one was its own person, and not a collective whole, as if they were learning themselves on their own accord, and for once, distinct chatter permeated the air thicker and more friendly than previous encounters.

Tala shrugged. "I have no jurisdiction here. You and whoever else is on this case can decide that. Are your kits strong enough to kill a Terran?"

"They're hardly strong enough to kill a mouse, even with their bone-bending." The fox kin laughed, "They have no control over their powers. They can't focus enough to draw up on it."

"Bone-bending?" Tala asked, ears flicking forward in curiosity. She wasn't really convinced, who knew what grief could do to the minds and powers of magic foxes?

"Bone bending. It is what we use to make our masks and battle." He nodded to Clairvoyant One, who nodded back and stood, turning away from them, his jaw clicked, and opened to a savage roar, and from the ground erupted large ivory spikes that ravaged the land. Upon further inspection, the material was some kind of, well, bone.

"It is a rather messy way of battling, but highly effective, especially against creatures with hardier bones, as we can mutilate bone structure as well if we wanted. We tend to not to unless necessary, though."

Tala's ears twitched in surprise at the sound and the erpution of the bones, and her hand went to her gun automatically although she didn't draw it. "I do not believe that your young should attend the festival," she said a bit unnecessarily. "Grief does strange things to the mind and the abilities of the young."

"Be aware, Minotaur, for that, takes years of practice, and kits can't even let out a squall, let alone summon even a bone fragment." Clairvoyant said reassuringly as his jaw clicked closed again, his voice becoming echo-y again. "The children cry and scream all they like in their play and play-accidents and never is there a speck of white to be found."

"You must understand my concern," Tala said, "My crew are not all immortal, and so I seek to protect them to the best of my abilities." She snorted softly, "But all things considered, things are satisfactory here."

"Of course." Clairvoyant nodded, and so did the other man. "If we believed the children to be a threat, we wouldn't be so eager to let them play."

Tala nodded. "Be well," she said, "I shall speak prayers for Inari tonight." She turned to go.

The anamcara's face suddenly slackened, as if he had just been slapped. Her words seemed to have struck him into a sort of awe. "You will... pray for Inari?"

Tala looked back, confused by the anamcara's reaction. "Yes. If you believe she would rather I did not, I will not pray," she said.

"No..." the man bowed his head in thanks, "Please... Pray. It has just... been a long time since someone outside of the Followers has prayed for Inari's safety. It was... shocking... May the leylines guide you, Minotaur."

Tala still was kind of confused by the anamcara's reaction, but she understood a little better now, at least. Prayer must be important to these people, it seemed. That was unusual out here among the atheists and those of different faiths. "Go bravely and find good fortune," she replied, before heading out the portal.
The people of Inari seemed good. She hoped it would be possible to keep them safe.
