Re: Upon Vestia: Chapter Nineteen
TIMESKIPPING TO DAY 11 I THINK
Ellie was still debating over whether she wanted to go to the Full Moon Celebration or not. She really wasn't sure whether she wanted to party with Infected, not after one had bitten herin the other universe.
She'd also been training with Flora and avoiding Professor Hewitt whenever she could.
~~
Tala awaited a reply from her mate, worked out, and kept an eye on the Inari situation.
~~
Ethan kept the library in spotless condition, went on shopping trips to the capitol in search of additions to the ship's book collection, and made occasional visits to the cafe to see what was going on. He was starting to relax in the capitol, now that all the robot rights stupidity had subsided, going out there to explore wasn't bad at all.
~~
James had finished the Shapeshifter Call Girl Chronicles and didn't know what to do with his life. Except read pulpy adventure novels recommended by Luka. Those helped.
~~
Asher was getting used to being a sort-of dad. He spent a lot of time with the hatchlings, telling them stories and helping them with their art projects, as well as doing more practical things like feeding them and oiling their scales.
He also continued to keep an eye on Kay since, you know, full moon plus being a new father was an interesting combination. And he did his best to be useful in the med bay on top of all that.

Re: Upon Vestia: Chapter Nineteen
Matt spent a lot of time with Thalia, which wasn't overly unusual, but neither of them seemed overly eager to leave the ship. When he wasn't fussing over his fiance like a mother hen he was cleaning, Vestia's interior had never been so sparkly clean.
---
Esk wandered about as he usually did, checking in briefly with people and pretending he wasn't checking on them. He started spending a fair bit of time in the cafe with a pot of tea and his sketch book, not getting involved in things, just quietly listening in.
He took a fair few walks into town as well but whatever it was he did out there he didn't say.
He just liked getting off the damn ship.
---
Mourn finished the docking port for Amity and installed it into one of the many rec rooms. The hologram could rest when he needed to now and when he wasn't wanted, but would activate whenever anyone walked into the room.
Mourn had suggested they give him his own room but Amity seemed aghast at that idea.
As it stood, Amity was eagerly learning all Sawna could teach him about being a barista and seemed to be adapting well to his new role.
Even the Professor was getting in on the 'Teach the host drone useful stuff' act, the pair of them would sit in the library and pour over books about animal biology. The Professor would make snide or horrified remarks every so often, but together they slowly started to get to grips with their surroundings.
--
The Professor, as well as spending a lot of time in the library, spent a lot of his time chatting to Ethan. He avoided Ellie as best he could and spent a good 80% of his day sleeping. He would be awake and active for a few hours, then retire to his room for a few more to rest.
Despite this, he'd probably already managed to offend just about everyone.
Mourn seemed to think he was hilarious.
---
Armin, prompted by Vestia's hinting, relocated his workspace and occupied a large unit on the same floor as the cafe. This was divided into two spaces. A sort of store front with a consultation and fitting area that had a normal atmosphere, so people could be fitted for their outfits. And a larger rear workshop set to his high oxygen needs where he could work in peace and with proper space.
His bedroom was large sure, but it was a bedroom, not a workshop. This allowed him to spread out a bit more, store his copious supply of fabrics and theoretically, helped divide home and work to encourage him to actually SLEEP.
---
Swarm, as promised, tried to research on the whereabouts of other Hawks for the Hawk Girls. They avoided parts of the archive, sensing the other swarm and not wishing to interact with them. The other swarm avoided them too.
But they would ask anyone they could and try to uncover anything the Guild Scouts might know about the fate of Hawk Village and any survivors.
--
Luka was avoiding town and still agonising over whether to go to the celebration. On one hand, she didn't much want to be cooped up on the ship while everyone else was partying, particularly not with Kay on board just in case. But the idea of celebrating a full moon made her uneasy and what if the infected went?
They wouldn't right? the Guild were irresponsible but they wouldn't willfully endanger people like that surely?
Still, she fretted and debated and tried to make up her mind.
An excuse to get dressed up and look pretty, to feel like an actual girl... a celebration for the sake of celebrating. Maybe it was something the crew all needed.
Argh, why did this have to be so hard?
She lend James a lot of terrible terrible books and borrowed many terrible books herself from the library and managed to completely avoid going into town.
---
Kay was slowly adapting to newfound parenthood but it was still surreal to him. He'd have moments where the strangeness of it would just hit him and he'd wonder if he was dreaming or not. It was a very strange place to be.
He dutifully cared for Danika though, and helped out with the other two when Starr needed a break. In between parenting shifts he tried to focus on his actual job but he was pretty distracted.
He was worried about Matt, he was worried about the war, he was worried about the trial.
He spent his free time working on his defense, but most of that time seemed to involve annoyingly backspacing and deleting whole paragraphs and trying to reword over and over and over again.
It was surprisingly difficult to say nice things about someone you were so irritated by. But he had to, it was crucial he had a solid, honest defense. A man's very life might hang on semantics. So no pressure huh?
He avoided going into town more and more as the full moon approached under the sensible assumption it would just make his mood worse.
As it stood, despite the looming full moon he was less grumpy, more a big ball of worry and neurosis right now.
Much as he adored Danika, he still found spending extended periods of time with Starr very awkward and couldn't really hide how uncomfortable he was with the whole thing. It wasn't that he disliked Starr, it was just well, her double's actions had been so violating, she reminded him every time of how his life and his thoughts were no longer just his and it made him angry and resentful.
He tried to focus on Danika and her half siblings instead.
He got Armin to construct a sort of sling carrier for Danika as well, as she rapidly got too large to fit into a small shirt pocket.
As the day of the full moon approached, Kay got nervous. He wasn't sure they were totally safe from the effects out here, who knew with portals. Theoretically they should be fine, but there was always that niggling doubt.
He was all the more anxious because of Danika. If there was one thing he never wanted, it was her to see him change into a monster.

Re: Upon Vestia: Chapter Nineteen
The baby dragons were all speaking more and more as the days passed, Vela and Kerr stretching their wings and starting to jump off tables and things, awkwardly flapping or trying to glide to the ground.
Danika was much more hesitant at that part, even when it didn't hurt as much to move her wing, thanks to Kay's physical therapy. She still preferred to stay on Kay, now in his bag instead of a pocket more than running around and playing. Even his bad mood didn't deter her, in fact it seemed to make her want to be around him more to make him feel better.
Starr studied all the books they had brought before they had to be taken back, copying some of them or passages she found most useful. She had managed to push those memories that were not hers down so that they didn't interfere as often with her day-to-day activities, even with Kay or Asher.
Sawna was enjoying her cafe, even with teaching Amity. She liked that Aramin brought his shop onto the same floor with her.
Skye and Moone would take some days, going to spend time with the other Artuvians and let them watch the chicks to help raise them too. They still searched for any (forgot the name of the chicken people) that would be willing to help raise them with their customs, since that was part of their people too and Acus was basically useless.
Rigel spent some time on the holodeck, learning to shoot what he had to without hitting anything else, though more often than not, he went to the school to learn some new ways to use his Earth power.
Dawn did much the same as her uncle, though with the addition of the medical books and using the holodeck to learn 'hands on' practice. She liked when Esk came to sit and watch her in the holodeck sessions, finding his critiques to be helpful, even if they were not 'nice'

Re: Upon Vestia: Chapter Nineteen
Ethan was in the library, still reading about Chinese history while he lounged on his favorite bean bag chair. Well, right now he wasn't reading, he was considering going to the full moon festival tonight. Hey, it sounded sorta interesting, and it wasn't like Kay was going to be there in all his full moon hormonal rage. Still, the idea of putting on fancy clothes didn't appeal to him much and the crowds were likely to be awful. And people would be dancing, no doubt. Yuck, dancing.
Maybe he should stay here and read about the Qing Dynasty. That was a much better plan.
~~
James was enjoying the morning. He had no work to do since Matt had done such a good job on the floor, so he was in a rec room playing solitaire. With actual cards, not an app! How strange.
~~
Ellie had been trying on all her hats to decide which went best with her dress. She wasn't sure whether she should go to the festival or not, but she figured it was still a good idea to decide on a nice hat just in case. As a Humanist, it was her heritage.
She headed out down a hall toward the cafe, not wearing the hat she had finally chosen, but instead wearing a navy blue one with lots of sequins.
~~
Asher was studying some star dragon books in the med bay. There was so much to find out about these guys, and he was doing his best to commit every page of these books (except the one written by slavers) to his memory. It was kind of a big project though.
~~
Tala was on some distant deck, jogging. She figured it was rude to jog on occupied floors if you had hooves and weighed three hundred pounds.

Re: Upon Vestia: Chapter Nineteen
Luka had decided over breakfast, while people excitedly talked about the festival and other people had looked wary and stressed that she SHOULD go. But now she had a new problem, having tried on her lovely spider silk dress she realised that no matter how well she polished them, her one pair of military combat boots just weren't appropriate.
She needed to go shoe shopping. Gulp.
She went searching for James, and/or anyone who knew anything about fashion eep.
---
Esk had left the ship to go for a stroll or as he put it "to get away from all the moping and bullshit."
---
Amity was cheerfully serving coffee to anyone who came into the cafe.
---
Kay was sipping coffee out of the snarky mug Esk had made him and working on his speech for the trial.
He was quite content to work with Danika on his shoulder or sleeping in her sling, so long as nobody else bugged him. He was a little stressed for obvious reasons.
---
Armin was working on something for the festival.
Quietly and privately in his nice new workshop.
---
Swarm was about.
As always.
---
Mourn hadn't really paid much attention to what day it was, or this festival. Why'd you have to get dressed up? He didn't understand this, it was stupid as far as he was concerned.
still, parties had food and people and all that. He approved of these things.
He went to the coffee shop because they had steamed milk and it was delicious.
---
Hewitt was asleep.
---
Matt and Thalia had gone for a walk.

James wasn't hiding, so Luka would probably have no trouble finding him. She could always ask Vestia for help locating him too. He was still playing his game of solitaire, but he wasn't that into it anyway. Stupid luck games, making him lose.
He looked up at the sound of someone coming into the room and smiled at the sight of Luka. "Hey there!"
~~
Ellie went into the cafe and ordered black coffee and a savory pastry, amazingly. Maybe she was untrusting of Amity's espresso making abilities.

Amity merrily poured her coffee and smiled. "Enjoy your drink..." he paused. "Miss? yes?" He was still having trouble with genders.

Luka waved. "What are you doing?" She asked, coming over to look at the cards.

"Yep, you got it right!" Ellie said. She took the coffee and tried to high-five the hologram, forgetting that Amity probably had no clue what a high five was.
~~
"Playing solitaire," James said, leaning back in his chair to look up at her. "And losing," he added a bit tragically. "I hate solitaire."

He stared at her hand and copied the gesture uncertainly, raising one hand. Nope, he had no idea. He looked pleased about getting her gender right though.
---
"How can you lose at solitaire?" Luka asked. "Nobody's looking, just like... reshuffle the deck." What? cheating was totally okay when you weren't playing against someone else. it wasn't really cheating without witnesses.

Ellie high-fived his held up hand, which might go oddly depending on whether Amity thought to solidify his hand or not.
~~
"It just doesn't seem right," James said. "I want to win by actual strategy, not by shuffling the cards repeatedly." He shook his head. "Anyway, what brings you over here?"

He really didn't think to solidify it, so her hand would pass right through him. He blinked. "Forgive me, I'm unfamiliar with this gesture." He smiled softly and ducked his head, lowering his hand slowly.
---
"shoes." Luka said bluntly, looking down at her highly shined boots. "I need shoes."

Ellie giggled. "It's called a high five. You should read about it sometime," she said helpfully. She took her coffee and pastry and went to find a good place to sit down.
~~
James followed Luka's gaze and smiled a bit. "Yeah, I guess they don't match that dress you bought very well," he agreed. "Want me to help you shoe shop, I take it?"

"Very well." Amity responded cheerfully. "Enjoy your baked goods and caffeinated beverage!" He would go look up high fives now, because Ellie wanted him to.
---
Luka looked suddenly a bit coy. "Well.. i don't know how much you know about shoes and girly stuff but... well, you said you'd come make sure I didn't get in any trouble if I went out there right? and.. Dawn's busy and I don't.. really have any other girl friends I can ask." yes James, you were officially a girl friend.

James snickered at being referred to as one of Luka's girl friends. "Sure, I'll come keep you in order and give you fashion advice," he said. "Always happy to help." He got up and started putting the cards away.

"No problem, I need something more satisfying to do than solitaire anyway," James said. He put the cards away. "We'll find you some great shoes and make everyone jealous." Actually, he should get some nice shoes too, to go with his suit. Hmm.

"I don't know much about pretty girly shoes." Luka admitted. "I hope the shop staff do." She sighed, this was going to be... interesting.
"you know, solitaire? there is no strategy. Maybe you should pick a different game for that."

"Yeah," James agreed, "It's a terrible game and I don't know why I played it." He headed for the door. "We'll tell the shoe store people no glass slippers, unless they're made of soft flexible glass."

She grinned at the thought. "oo oo finger feet! you know those really long toes some people have that look like hands?" She cackled.
