Vavaren

Vavaren is a richly forested planet with large bodies of water. It's cold, not cold enough for snow but cold enough for frost to form overnight. The oxygen levels are high.

There are no mammals, only lizards, insects, arachnids and some birds. Everything is huge.
Their oceans are populated by giant squids, immense fish and various other enormous and terrifying creatures of the deep.

The Vavare have built large webbed communes in the trees.

Visitors are not common, Vavare tend to do most of their business off world but those who visit are welcomed warmly.

Ships will dock at a small simple space port which is surrounded by their capital "city", if you can call it that.
It looks more like a vast marketplace.

Visitors are advised to wear rebreathers when leaving their ship, dress warm and to avoid any flames, sparks or static buildup.

Sonata shrugged, "Perhaps we can ask these questions when we get there. As much as Merith and Vanessa are scare of their own fates traveling to there, they must have incredible trust in the Guild's integrity to be willing to sacrifice their lives for the sake of the crew. Who knows, if you ask them these questions, they might very well already know the answer."

She swirled her drink again, looking down at it with an almost unusual smile, "No one is ever good for the sake of being good, huh...?"

Her smile broadened slightly as she turned her gaze up to the clouds. "I must say, Esk, you are... quite the character."

"Sacrificing their lives? Sure they aren't just suicidal? there's a lot of that going around lately." Esk shrugged, making a sort of huffing noise at her remark about his character. "Did you actually want something?" He snapped grumpily.

"Considering Merith was the one that had to be convinced to leave, and Vanessa is a particularly level-headed person -- have you had the chance to talk with her, by the way? I believe you two might actually be compatible acquaintances -- I think it's just more than mere suicide."

She smiled at his grumpiness again, "No, not really, other than wanting to know a bit more about you. You see, Esk, I've been around for quite a long time, and not once have I met a sapient being who didn't have any repercussion to long-term self-isolation. I do not know what happened to you, and something tells me we both don't really care for a story at the moment, but, a hunch..." She picked up a pebble and thumbed it, thinking to herself, "Tells me there's more to pick up on underneath the whole... prickly nature you seem to carry."

"Sorry sweetheart, I don't respond well to therapy. " Esk told her flatly. "Believe me, they tried. I made the last one cry." He looked smug, that was actually somewhat satisfying. HAH, ask him about his father will you?
He shrugged. "I don't like people. They get in the way, ask stupid questions." He gave her a pointed look at that and went back to watching the people milling about.

"Stupid questions for stupid answers, yes? Shouldn't be too hard for someone as intelligent as you." She giggled at him, "Small annoyances shouldn't bother a genius... Although, I am not sure whether to make a therapist cry is commendable or abhorable, possibly both..."

"What the hell are you talking about?" He glared at her. She was flat out confusing him now. He stared at her, trying to get a read on the weird woman. He suspected she was mocking him. "She deserved it. " He told her simply.

"Did she?" Sonata echoed, "Or did you merely believe she deserved it?" The woman pulled her arm back, and with a powerful, toned strength, flung the pebble as far as she could, away from the crowd. "I believe it's all subjective."

"What do you care?" He looked away. "I don't want or need your therapy lady, or your philosophical bullshit. "

"Who said I was offering therapy?" Sonata gave him a sideways look, staring at him in an almost curious manner of a child.

"Your asking therapist questions." He told her flatly. "Why do you FEEL that, why do you BELIEVE that.. blah blah blah. " He waved a hand dismissively. "I didn't give a shit then, i don't give a shit now. I'm not doing it. You want something, just ask. Don't play games."

"So, you wish for me to be straight forward, then? We can confirm this." She straightened her posture and turned to directly face him, staring at him with an almost challenging glint in her eye.

His eyes narrowed. "What do you really want?"

She stared at him a bit longer, looking almost bored, before she held out a hand, and smiled brightly. "I think I'd want to be your friend. Not a therapist. I'm really not experienced in that matter. Just...

"A friend."

Esk stared at her and her offered hand, hesitating. He clearly didn't trust her at all. "Why me?" He asked blankly, not taking her hand.

"Why not?" She smiled at him with a slight chuckle, "I tend to find things that 'scare,' people are really just an over-hyped speculation. Trust me, humanity finds any way, shape, or form to demonize something they don't like. It's childish, really."

He continued to stare at her, deciding she knew way more than she was letting on. It made him uncomfortable. "I already told you, I don't like people. " Honestly he was so used to being alone, he didn't really know what to do around other people. Extended social interaction made him uneasy.

"That's a general statement." She replied coolly, the hand still extended, "I'm not asking you to become a social butterfly and party goer in one night, Esk. I am asking you to be a single person's friend."

He sighed. "You won't go away till I shake your hand will you?" He already knew the answer to that. Looking irritated, he hesitantly and half heartedly took her extended hand in his own gloved hand and shook it. He didn't look very enthused about all this. "Just don't touch me." He told her bitterly.

"I can respect that." Sonata chuckled, pulling her hand away after the shake had been made. "If there's anything you need, just let me know. Now, seeing as you apparently don't wish to be bothered, should I take my leave?"

He shot her a funny look. "That's really all you wanted? No further questions? no attempts to get me to be nice?" He tilted his head. "all that just for a handshake? There's easier ways lady." He shrugged. "You're weird."

Sonata burst out into a loud fit of laughter, "So I've been told. But yes, that is all I wanted."

Esk shook his head. "Fine, whatever." He muttered, picked up his paper and went back to drawing. He held the paper in such a way she couldn't see though, he really had no interest in sharing anything with people.

"I hope to see you around, Esk. Maybe we can compare our works." She got up to leave him be.

He grunted noncommittally and waited till she was gone before going back to his sketching properly.
