Vavaren

Vavaren is a richly forested planet with large bodies of water. It's cold, not cold enough for snow but cold enough for frost to form overnight. The oxygen levels are high.

There are no mammals, only lizards, insects, arachnids and some birds. Everything is huge.
Their oceans are populated by giant squids, immense fish and various other enormous and terrifying creatures of the deep.

The Vavare have built large webbed communes in the trees.

Visitors are not common, Vavare tend to do most of their business off world but those who visit are welcomed warmly.

Ships will dock at a small simple space port which is surrounded by their capital "city", if you can call it that.
It looks more like a vast marketplace.

Visitors are advised to wear rebreathers when leaving their ship, dress warm and to avoid any flames, sparks or static buildup.

Skye and Moone followed the rest of the group quietly to then up the stairs. They were worried for Kay, though only Moone could hear the babble telepathically.

"I think I will go back to Vestia to clean up and check on the chicks" She said after a few steps, before simply disappearing from view.

Armin bowed his head to Asher. "Luck has smiled upon us, it could have been a lot worse." He conceded.

Once they were upstairs Viti would help Asher down by crouching so he could slide off her back and bustle off to go get blankets and towels and dry clothes.
Of course, since Vavare didn't wear pants this meant long tunics that would fall to about knee length. But they were dry and clean, so a better option than soaking wet mud soaked stuff right?
She also brought out a little hot plate sort of thing and set to work heating some tea for the organic guests.
They didn't use flames, for rather obvious reasons. A lot of oxygen in the air plus the general flammability of spiderweb made fire a generally bad idea. Instead their heating systems used chemical, flameless heating elements. A small bit of water added to a powder in the bottom of the device.
While that bubbled away she told Asher and Kay to get changed.

Asher nodded, smiling warmly. "My luck has always been exceptional. And James has some very exciting stuff to show Swarm when he gets home, so his day is a success too."
He looked at Kay worriedly. Was the poor guy even able to change his own clothes in this state?

Armin nodded to Asher, but he still looked awkward. He looked to Skye. "Thank you for your help out there." He told her. "Is your sibling alright? " Moone had left in rather a hurry.

Kay was rubbing his head, it hurt.

Viti sighed. "He may need help." She told them as she moved to the other end of what really was one very large room. You could probably sleep a good dozen or more people in here, and clearly they did judging by how open plan the place was and the hammocks hanging around the place.

She stuck her head out of an opening and yelled "Onde! Viggo! Barn, NOW."

Kay startled at the sudden yelling and stared at Viti wide eyed.

"Forgive me, my children often require a loud voice to encourage them."

There was a lot more to this farm than what they'd seen, and the rest of the family were busily working. Someone yelled back

"Did the hawk take the aphids again?"

Viti stuck her head back out the opening. "Farhde will explain, go and help him."

She came back to take the tea off the boil and pour it into cups.

"A very eventful day that is for certain." She told them.

"Moone is alright, she had to check on the chicks." Skye said and smiled "She must have heard Kay too." She said with a shrug then looked to Viti as she yelled at the younger ones then back to Asher and Kay again "I'm just glad we decided to follow you out here so that we could help."

Asher looked around the room uncertainly. Great, no privacy to be had here. Now what?

James gave Asher an amused look. "Any chance you guys have a blanket or something these guys can hide behind? Humanoids worry about privacy so much, you know."

Asher looked embarrassed, but grateful.

Armin bowed his head applogetically. "of course. " He picked up a few of the blankets Viti had brought in and handed one to James. "I can hold one up, you can hold the other. Will that be sufficient?"

Viti looked bemused. Silly humanoids.

Skye flushed a little and looked away, checking the house out. It was interesting that the house was like one big room.

Since Asher didn't seem to have a lot to say at the moment, James handled the talking. "Yeah, that'll be fine. Thanks, man." He would help hold up the blanket so Kay and Asher could change clothes in relative privacy.

It was a huge room, and extremely spartan in decoration. The family seemed to all just live and sleep practically on top of one another.  There were no chairs, they couldn't really use them after all. There was a low table and counters for food prep but that was about it. In one corner of the room was what looked like a small wooden shrine, a very simple thing with an offering bowl atop it.

Armin held up the blanket and averted his eyes to give the two privacy. Unlike his aunt, he did understand humanoids and their silly preference for such things.
Viti just stirred the tea and ignored them, bringing a cup to Skye. The mugs had no handles and there was a sort of straw in it which would allow her to sip at it without removing her mask completely.

Kay tried to get changed, he was at least coherent enough to understand what was going on around him... to an extent. He'd probably need a bit of help though, which was sure to be humiliating later when he was able to look back and be embarrassed about his uselessness. bah.

Skye smiled at Viti as she accepted the cup "Thank you" She said happily. She moved the mask enough to try a sip of the tea, curious about how it tasted. She would try to ignore the sounds of people changing behind the curtain.

Asher helped Kay when needed, and hastily changed his own clothes, somewhat hindered by whatever the hawk had done to his leg. He was going to need to look at that once they got back to Vestia, once he had made sure Kay was all right.
Once they were done changing into the rather strange vavare clothing, they'd return to the others.

The tea was herbal tasting, kinda grassy.

Kay looked at Asher and frowned a little, indicating his leg. The Vavare clothing was odd, a little too dress-like for his own comfort but the fabric was amazingly soft.

Once they were done Armin would wrap Kay up in the blanket to keep him warm. He leaned heavily into the spider, staring a little too intently at his facial markings.
Armin just smiled, patted Kay's head and lead him over to the table where he sat him down on the floor in front of a cup of tea.

Skye smiled, looking to Kay as he came over to join them "This is good." She said kindly to Viti

"Apparently hawk claws are pretty strong, and they must have bent something in my leg," Asher explained. "Don't worry, I'll be fine once I get the chance to repair it." He sat down at the table near Kay, because he was still very worried about him.

James ruffled Asher's hair and sat down near him. "Don't get picked up by hawks, man. It's a stupid idea."

"I'll keep that in mind for the future," Asher said, amused.

Kay's hands were shaking too much to pick up his tea, so he just snuggled into his blanket shivering.

"You cannot eat or drink I assume?" Viti asked James and Asher, handing a cup to Armin.

"What will you do with the hawk?" Armin asked.

"it will be disposed of, worry not nephew." Viti told him calmly, sipping her own tea and bowing her head to Skye "thank you."

"Nope, we can't eat or drink," James said, "It's pretty sad." He didn't look very sad though. "How do you dispose of an animal that big?"

Asher moved closer to Kay, letting him use him as a heater if he wanted, because Asher's temperature had been restored to something a bit higher than normal by now. A blanket wouldn't do as much good as an extra supply of body heat, after all.

Kay snuggled into Asher, grateful for the warmth. As his oxygen levels started to level out he was starting to become more coherent, though his head hurt, his chest hurt and he had a really annoying ringing in his ears still.

"Well it will need to be hacked into smaller pieces first." Viti told James matter of factly.

"Try to save some feathers." Armin said.

Viti sighed. "Always thinking of your costumes are you not?"

Armin bowed his head. "They are impressive, I am certain even if I cannot find a use for them, one of the others will pay good money for them."

Viti nodded. "I will do what I can. We will transport it away from here and bury the remains, we do not wish to attract more predators to the area. "

"How often do they come?" Armin asked.

"More than they used to. The mountain settlements have expanded greatly over the past decade, driving the hawks from their natural hunting grounds. They see the livestock as easy prey. " She shook her head. "Nasty things. We already lost six aphids this season and last year they took Arved. They grow more and more bold."

Armin bowed his head. "Is there nothing that can be done?"

"It is the way of things. I can only thank the weaver that this time nobody lost their life."

Kay sipped his tea and frowned at the talk, squeezing Asher's hand gently. As his mind cleared, quite how close they'd been to losing him started to prey on his mind.

"Do not concern yourself with our problems friends, we survive, we always have and we always will." Viti told them.

"Do you have crows here?" Skye asked curiously "Or...um, I'm not sure what you would call them here, but we called them hawk balls. It is simply a ball made from mirrors to frighten the hawks away"

"Wow, that's rough," James said. "Not the sort of threat anyone wants to have looming over them all the time." He blinked at Skye's suggestion, "But you guys are hawks, aren't you? How do you know about hawk repellents?"

Asher hugged Kay and smiled softly at him. "Don't worry, you're not getting rid of me that easily," he murmured.

"We have attempted noise scarers but they are so big, they still come. Mirrors... " She considered that. "Perhaps we could trade for something..."

"We cannot produce glass on this world." Armin explained.

Viti sighed. "We will find a solution. In the meantime the males will move the aphids to another more secure field. "

"I am sorry Auntie." Armin bowed his head.

"It is not your fault Armin. The deceased aphid will be put to good use I assure you." She brightened a little. "At least now we have something to bring to this party."

Armin smiled softly. "praise the weaver." He looked at Asher. "I am so sorry you got hurt.. and wet.. "

Skye chuckled and looked to James "We do still have normal hawk, and some other cities have those hawk balls all over them." She said then shrugged "We are not always welcomed, since we are hawks, especially with the smaller ones like the pigeons and chickens and such" She said then looked to Viti "Anything reflective would work, so long as it catches light and reflects it randomly, it scares natural hawks"

James was fascinated. "You guys have bird birds, and humanoid birds?" he said. "We could totally raid Vestia for glass. She totally has spare glass, right, Asher?"

Asher nodded. "We have a lot of spare glass. She might be willing to part with a few sheets of it."
He smiled at Armin, "Really, it's fine. These things happen, and no permanent damage was done."

Skye chuckled again and nodded "We have a whole ecosystem." She said, teasing a bit "I believe Vestia has that information in her library, or you could check for histories in the hologram room"

Viti nodded. "thank you friend. "

"The city may have something we can use." Armin suggested brightly.

The sound of voices below suggested that the males had returned.

Viti looked at Kay. "How are you feeling?" She asked gently.

Kay gestured OK. He still felt weird, a little drunk perhaps, and his chest hurt but at least he was toasty warm. He'd stopped telepathically projecting as well, which was a relief for the two spiderkin.

"Definitely sounds like something worth looking up," James told Skye. "Man, it's always so fun to find out about all the variation these planets have."
James finally got around to handing over Kay's tablet, since his hands didn't seem to be shaking any more.

Kay looked gratefully at James, nodding his head in thanks and sitting up so he wasn't leaning so heavily on Asher. Man, just how loopy had he been there?
